View Full Version : All-time favorite Shampoo?
Jonobie April 22nd, 2003, 08:53 AM So, once I finish up the remaining bits of my product graveyard, I'm going to celebrate and get a new shampoo and conditioner. I've already decided on the famed Mega Moisture for the conditioner.
What about the shampoo? What do ya'll love? (That's still produced and available in the US, please. :)) What have you stuck with the longest? What's the best value for what it does? I'm looking for something with SLES instead of SLS or ALS -- the Suave shampoos I'm currently using seem a bit harsher than I'd like.
Cheers,
Jonobie
Carolyn April 22nd, 2003, 09:14 AM I never stick with anything very long but the shampoos I've purchased more than once are Redken All Soft and Origins THe Last Straw. I've tried a couple Suave shampoos and thought they were quite harsh and stripping. Redken Heavy Cream is a nice conditioner for my hair. I tried the new Estee Lauder and Lancome condtioners and liked them. I am such a sucker for those bonus bags of goodies :D
bunniee April 22nd, 2003, 10:08 AM Have you tried any of the Mastey shampoos? I use Mastey Traite occasionally in place of CO washes. It's very gentle and gets my scalp and hair clean without stripping.

The Mastey factory is located in Santa Clarita, California.

I haven't, but it definitely sounds interesting. I don't think I've seen Mastey at the grocery store (although I know I've seen Redken there -- they have some salon brands, strangely). Is it available from Sally's, or do I need to find a salon for it?

AmandaPanda April 22nd, 2003, 01:07 PM I'd have to say Kenra. I like the moisturing, clarifying and color maintenance shampoos
Those shampoos contain SMS.
moonlight857 April 22nd, 2003, 02:55 PM I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but I've always loved L'Oreal's Colorvive Regular Shampoo. It contains sodium laureth sulfate, but not the lauryl sulfate or the ammonioum (sp?) cleansers. It's very gentle, with no buildup and works perfectly on my 1aFii hair. By the way, I don't color my hair, I just think it's one of the most gentle shampoos out there
pria April 22nd, 2003, 02:57 PM I love the products from St Ives..especially the one that has Raspberry and Jojoba.
It has a lot of natural extracts and is never tested on animals..
Fragrance is good and it adds a lot of shine to your hair..
I get this big bottle for about $2.75.
You can get that at any grocery store..

TammySue April 22nd, 2003, 04:17 PM I haven't found it yet! Bwahahahaha! I'm always trying new ones and am still searching for my "favorite" shampoo. Next on my list to try: John Freida's Sheer Blonde!
moonlight857 April 22nd, 2003, 05:09 PM oops - sorry for the double post. Not quite sure how that happened!
Karrinne April 22nd, 2003, 05:14 PM TammySue, Sheer Blonde is GREAT!!!!!!!!! :D

The Beauty Store & Salon has most of the Mastey shampoos & conditioners. I go to the one by Central Market.
It's weird about the grocery stores carrying salon brands; makes me wonder if they are the same products sold in salons. Even HEB carries Aveda now. :suspect:

Aha. Cool. So you're in the wonderful city of longhairs, too! :)

Yeah, it is weird. Although, last time I went to the one in the Hancock center, it looked like they'd cleared out their Aveda collection. Maybe they got in trouble for that or something. :?:

Axium May 15th, 2003, 09:34 AM I can't say enough about Jason Naturals Hemp shampoo. SMS, lots of oils. No lather. Very condensed, will last a long long time if you dilute. It's everything I've been looking for in a shampoo! :D
Violeta May 15th, 2003, 09:48 AM I haven’t found one yet, all the shampoos that I ever used , worked ok or great for some time and then something happened and I had to try another one.
But I know what I don’t like at all : Herbal Essences (bad , bad …), Pantene , Pert , most drug store brands , L’Oreal Vive was ok for some time but something was just wrong (beside the smell) . I am positive though because I have a lot of brands to try and I am just in the beginning . :D
Tresses May 15th, 2003, 10:52 AM Nexxus Therappe. Never fails me. :D
Violeta May 15th, 2003, 12:53 PM Nexxus Therappe. Never fails me. :D
I just got this yesterday , haven’t tried it yet but I am having high hopes . :D 8)
bellawave May 17th, 2003, 10:54 AM I'm alternating between two shampoos right now, and I love both of them: Jason E.F.A. and Aveda Shampure. I use the Jason most days; it's extremely gentle and moisturizing and has a delicate rose-like scent. I use the Shampure mostly for clarifying about once a week; because it has sulfates I don't use it every day. It really cleans though, and has a wonderful spicy-herbal scent.
Anne May 21st, 2003, 12:30 PM MM all the way! :D
Heidi May 22nd, 2003, 07:39 AM I think I can chime in on this one finally...I've been using Earth Science Pure Essentials Frangrance Free S and C for several weeks now, and I love it. The conditioner is rich and slick and I haven't had any problems with buildup or getting it rinsed from my crown like some others. The shampoo is sort of gelly-like, like aloe, and cleans well without leaving me feeling stripped.
Violeta May 22nd, 2003, 10:22 AM Right now I really like ABBA Crème but I am only using it for 3 washes now (1 week and a few days) so it is really too soon to tell. :D
Sasha June 13th, 2003, 03:25 PM I love Herbalife's 3-in-1 shampoo, but I hate Herbalife, so I won't be buying that anytime soon. I also love Nubian Silk.
Meezer June 14th, 2003, 02:30 AM I absolutely adore Crede FT Shampoo. It doesn't have any SLS. Actually, I have never even heard of the cleansers that are in it. It is ultra gentle.
I also like any shampoos that are decyl polyglucose based(California Baby, Gary Null).
HTH :D
