I have got to make one of those :)

thank you !
I used mamacats instructions (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=19607) in her thread.
Its like frenching in that you're adding sections to it,
but its easier.
I was having brain farts trying to figure out how I was
supposed to weave it in, but I just tried it and voila'.
bookwyrm February 17th, 2005, 10:42 AM Very, very pretty. I love the pictures of your hair!
Mamacat February 17th, 2005, 02:49 PM Oh how cool!!! I love the fairy charms :inlove: You do a much better job of putting it on your own head than I do

you shouldve seen me trying to get the damn thing
out 10 minutes ago.
Putting it in: the head part is harder; at the nape I bring it around
to the side while looking in the mirror and finish it all the
way down.
I'm so glad you posted the instructions!
I just found some more beads at sally's for .99 with
clear crystals in them. I'm making another one ! weeee!
Carolyn February 18th, 2005, 01:48 PM Thanks for posting the picture of the lacer outside your hair. I finally GET it! I can be such a dumb sh.. I'm going to try one if I can find the supplies.
Jentle February 19th, 2005, 06:37 PM Wow... that looks like a really fun project... I bet it would be a cool group art activity for my daycare kids... Those kids with short hair could make them as gifts, maybe?
sevedra February 19th, 2005, 08:11 PM These look so so nice! I can't figure out how you get it going at the top though :( About how much leather thong does one need to make one of these? And how do you know how many beads to use?

I was going to make a few for my nieces, so yeah I'd say
they'd love to make them themselves-very very easy!

I found a pic online here (http://www.realwomenride.com/Hair%20Images/CoverEasyBraider.jpg) and went by
that.
I got the suede lace and held up the end at the top of
my scalp to where I thought I'd like it to start.
I let the lace drop down to the end of my hair (looking
in a mirror sideways) to where I thought I wanted it
to end. Then I doubled the length.
Using the link pic, I figured I'd need 10 beads, then whatever
more I wanted to decorate the ends with.
I strung on the beads from the ends, which are now
doubled and shaped like the top of a U.
A bead for every inch, maybe?
To put it in, I find Im doing it like this:
gather a section from the top crown area. Put through
the first 'hole' in the lacer. Bring the lacer around so
its on top, sort of in front of my face, bring the bead down to tighten.
I bring the whole strand down in front of my face with my
hair still behind me.
I gather a new section, and put it through the second hole, between the first and second bead. Criss/Cross the lace in
the back of the strand, like your putting in a ponytail or elastic band, then bring the strand back through the hole to the front
and tighten with the second bead.
I bring the lacer back in front of my face again.
Gather another section and just repeat until you get down the bottom by your neck.
You'll probably only go 4 beads down your head.
Then I do the rest bringing it over my shoulder while looking
in a mirror.
does that help? or did I complicate it more ?
Jentle February 21st, 2005, 08:57 AM ... I'd need to make one for myself and wear it in that day so the kids know what I'm talking about... And I could pre-cut the strands for them... :) This could be awesome.
Hue May 12th, 2005, 07:53 AM That's very cool. Thanks!
MusicLady May 12th, 2005, 08:38 AM That is really cool! I'll have to try one of those.
aries November 13th, 2006, 04:17 AM Reviving old thread real quick. I would like to know how you got the fairies or other dangling decoration to stay in the end of these? I want to make some lacers for Chirstmas gifts and want to decorate with dangley things at the bottom at the bottom of the tails.
senoraboneyard November 13th, 2006, 04:20 AM Ooooo how pretty! I've got to try that one~ Thanks for posting the pics!

hi !
well, its been a while since I've posted much so thanks
for the revive !
honestly, I believe I just tied it on the end. The suede is thick though
so you really have to pull tight.
I tied it tight and then trimmed the tail.
You could also use a dab of superglue
or something to make sure it doesnt unravel.
soo.... what are you planning on putting on yours?
Im going to want pics- you know that right ?
aries November 13th, 2006, 07:09 AM Thank you Hairbrain. I don't know what I am going to use on it yet, I have to go shopping for the supplies. I will try to post pics when I get it made. I haven't posted pictures as of yet but I guess I need to learn lol.
hairbrain November 13th, 2006, 07:12 AM youre welcome...if you need help let me know~
aries November 13th, 2006, 07:49 PM I most certainly will. I want to post pictures all the time but am kinda lost with computers lol. I will do pictures when I make a lacer. Hoping to make some for Christmas gifts this year.
embee November 18th, 2006, 05:52 PM I love the way these lacers look. I bought one at the local craft fair. It was so neat. I put it in my hair and it looked *great*.
Then in the evening I tried to take it out. :( I had to cut some hair to get it loose. :(
I'm gonna give the lacer to my DD. Maybe she can use it better than I can. My hair is fine/thin. Hers is pretty tough and thick..
And good ideas how to deal with this problem?

harley mama November 19th, 2006, 05:58 AM I love this look. I am going to try it. I am a bit worried about taking it out though. When my DD was young and had waist length hair I would wrap it in yarn and it looked similar to this. It was a good way to keep her hair back and looked nice. Thanks for the post.
dcs60 November 21st, 2006, 04:30 PM I just love the look!! I showed dd19 the pics, and now she wants to make one for her hair!! Yippee!! I get to practice before my hair is long enough to wear one myself!! Off to Michaels on Saturday!!
Celtic Queen November 22nd, 2006, 08:36 AM love that! I will try to make me one after Thanksgiving - if my crazy schedule let me. I love braids, but they go away so quick, this could be a very neat solution.
