I was just wondering if you think hot rollers are damaging to hair?
I bought my daughter a set of hot rollers that are covered in velvet for Christmas. I tried them the other day and really liked the way it made my hair look. I am not sure if they are bad for hair or not. They didn't seem all that hot and to be honest I feel like put much less wear and tear on the hair when you roll and secure them then when I do a roller set and use magnetic rollers and bobby pins.
What do you think? My daughter is moving out and I am debating the idea of buying a set for myself.

Hot rollers were definitely bad for my hair. They made my hair look good also but caused a lot of split ends. I suppose using it occassionally on special days would not have been bad, but I completely gave up.

They are made by Clairol and have the velvety covering. There are about 6 small, 6 med, and 9 or so large. They dont get very hot and I only leave them in for about 10 or so min.
I really love them too :D
I believe in moderation, so I use them every once in a while. I want long hair but I also want to have fun with my hair.
Just keep your ends in check. You will know when to not use them.
Hope this helps

I think hot rollers are bad for long hair, if used often. Sorry I don't have more advice.
Are foam rollers bad for your hair?

Hi Nitsa, I think it would be OK to use hot rollers once in a while. I just got some new Conair ones. The flocked ones that heat up fast. 20 jumbo 1 1/2" rollers. I've just used them once and really liked the results. I wouldn't use them everyday but dang they made my hair look great! I put some Phyto 9 in my hair before I rolled it thinking that might be a little protection from the heat. If you start seeing more split ends from using the rollers, then yes stop using them, but if you don't see an increase in splits then I would think an occasional use would be OK.

Yes, hot rollers are rather harsh on hair and can cause split ends if you use them too frequently. But I think you can get away with using them occassionally. Roller sets are much gentler.

Are foam rollers bad for your hair?
Yes, foam rollers are bad for your hair. The foam catches on the hair and causes damage over time. Never use those cute pink foam rollers! Rag curlers are a much better alternative.
