View Full Version : any advice?? Sherizz February 5th, 2005, 09:55 AM how do u get over hair that is a bit over your shoulders?? :( Im so irritating!! makes me wanna cut it even shorter!! dancingbarefoot February 5th, 2005, 10:16 AM Patience - that's really the only way. Can you put your hair up so that it's not touching your shoulders? Perhaps a French twist? That looks good and protects the hair. kissedbyfyre February 5th, 2005, 10:23 AM Put it up, get it out of your mind. That's the best advice I can offer besides having patience. It's one of those awkward stages you have to go through. But the patience is worth it. :cloud9: Lyli February 5th, 2005, 10:35 AM (((Sherizz))) I feel your pain! I'm there, too! I just went out and bought some hair toys to play with. That seems to be helping me. Hang in there! :flower: Baptista February 26th, 2005, 09:38 AM Have you tried French Braiding? You are at a good length to practice things like that, and your hair looks really thick, so I bet two French braids (like Igor's) would look really pretty on you! Sherizz February 26th, 2005, 09:59 AM Have you tried French Braiding? You are at a good length to practice things like that, and your hair looks really thick, so I bet two French braids (like Igor's) would look really pretty on you! I havent tried any styles, its so hard to do french braiding! or use hair accessories to make them look good in my hair... ChloeDharma February 26th, 2005, 11:37 AM I know what you mean about french braiding, it's REALLY frustrating because i can do it fine on anybody elses hair, but whenever i keep trying to do it on myself it just turns into a mess with random bits of hair getting caught up! I'm starting to think i just can't do it on myself  In terms of coping with your length i think its just a case of patience and a ponytail. Your hair does look nice and healthy in your photo if thats any consolation, i'm sure once you have reached your goal you will feel the waiting was worth it :flowers: AquaViolet1973 February 26th, 2005, 11:46 AM During the growing out phase, especially when my hair was shoulder length I wore my hair up alot. It helped take my mind off my hair... Prettypolly February 26th, 2005, 11:50 AM I agree that it is patience... as hard as it is. How do you feel about just tying your hair up? I am assuming from it's thickness and length, that you probably can't do a bun yet? <ponders> I think, if you practised and practised at doing a french braid, you'll become an expert in no time! Maybe starting off by only doing a small section of the hair. Like, split it into two halves, then with one half take the TOP half of that LOL, and french braid that. Then do the same on the other side and it will be like two french braids and then loose hair underneath. It looks nice and is less hair to braid! Or how about a headband, if it gets in your face alot? Clips? To clip the hair where you want it, and may also help with it looking big. If I think of anymore ideas I'll post ;) :flower: Veronique2046 February 26th, 2005, 11:52 AM Hey Sherizz:waving: I remember how frustrating that length can be. I think the best option right now is wearing it up and out of your way to keep it out of your face and off your mind. This is a great time to experiment with fun hair toys and barrets (sp?) Also, when mine was that length I used to like wearing it in cute little pig tails close to the back of my head. LILBERT February 26th, 2005, 11:57 AM Patience, its the only way you can really get past it. Other than that, i would start a hairtoy collection. Focusing on hairtoys in your hair rather than your hair helps. Buy some sparkly clips (or something you like) to pin the fron parts of your hair back if you dont like putting it completely back. I just put mine in a ponytail all the time, but if you dont like that then try finding some clips you like to push it off your face, or nice barretts for half up-do's. audrey February 26th, 2005, 02:58 PM Hi Sherizz, My hair is also shoulder length and i just can't do anything much with it except put it in ponytails. I can't even do buns and french twists because they're too messy - I have too many layers! What i like to do then, is accessorize. I love pretty sparkly clips, hairties and pins, scrunchies and headbands. They don't even need to be expensive, just fun and stuff that you love. Why not experiment with different hair treatments like deep conditioners, rinses and henna that will take your mind off the length? HTH! Cheyenne February 26th, 2005, 03:29 PM Sherizz, I don't have much to add that the others haven't already mentioned other than that my hair is the same length as yours so I understand. I have had a horrible love-hate relationship with my hair. Changing how I treat my hair has made it look so much better. I used to use 2 in 1 shampoo and cond. every day and my hair looked so dull and lifeless that I would cut it frequently only to hate my new hair cut. YIKES! Now I am finally having fun with my hair as it starts to look better. The longest my hair has been is mid back length, but it hasn't been longer than shoulder length in some time. I am anxious for it to get longer so I can have more fun with it. I have some chin length layers, and I am still able to do a decent french braid. I still need to practice doing them though. I also bought a few hair things like small tie on head bands almost like small scarves. I also like to pull the top parts back and clip them back. Well, basically I am just having fun experimenting with my hair doing things I can right now. I hope you can find ways to enjoy your hair. It really looks nice in your picture. My hair does strange things with it's wave that can be very annoying at times. I have found that drying my hair with the top pulled back and then letting it down creates some nice body to my hair that looks alot better than letting it all down to air dry. Just some random thoughts. Hope something helps. Cheyenne Carolyn February 27th, 2005, 05:18 AM Shoulder length has to be the most annoying length. I feel for ya girl! All I can say is patience patience patience. I had mine up in a claw clip for about 6 months when it was that length. Your hair appears to be healthy and thick so why not start working on updo's? Have you considered ordering a Ficcare in the group order? I know you live in Europe so maybe that isn't an option for you. Looking at your avitar it seems to be you could do a nice ponytail with your length. How about half up? when my hair was your length I did a lot of half up styles. I thought it made my hair look longer and it kept it from falling in my face all the time. Snowymoon February 27th, 2005, 05:32 AM I have been there. It is a very difficult and frustrating phase, but you will get through it. All the advice given is good. What worked for me was headbands, clips, half-up pony tails, pony tails when it all could finally get in there and up-dos. I kept it up most of the time and gritted my teeth a lot. I am glad I did it and resisted cutting now. Hang in there! |
