Does anyone have any experience with Sylvan Learning Center or any other place like it? DS is thirteen years old and has failed Language Arts (which counts as two classes) for two classes. He will have to take Saturday school and Summer school. He received a D in math also. Even though he goes to Math tutoring three times every week. We have had him evaluated for several learning disorders in addition to ADD/ADHD. He has none of those. He just isn't motivated to do anything. I have an appointment to have him see the child psychologist on Feb. 9 but I need help with his schooling. I go over his homework in math with him every night. We have met with his counselor and his teachers and I have to sign a paper every day to make sure he is doing his work. Every Friday he gets a little note from each teacher saying what grade he is getting. I just don't know what else to do.

I had a friend who worked for Sylvan as a math tutor. She thought it was a good program and felt that most of her students got the help they needed... I think she said that once they stopped being scared that they didn't know what they were doing, they were more interested in doing their math work. I can't really remember any details - sorry - but I thought I'd share in case it would be useful.

Cheers,
