View Full Version : Any longhair photographers??
oneKnight January 18th, 2005, 02:37 PM I didn't see any threads about photography, so I was curious. I consider photography one of my main hobbies. I enjoy taking pictures of animals. Deer are one of my favorites, you can't just walk up to them and snap a pic. I started out photographing family cows and their babies. People often act "artificial" in front of a camera, animals don't. That's why I like to photograph them.

I enjoy photography, but I wouldn't say I'm any good at it. At the moment, I don't have a camera with me. I left my old manual SLR and all its equipment at home in Alaska because I was trying to limit how much stuff I lugged with me to grad school. There are times when I really wish I'd brought the camera with me!
Chameleon January 18th, 2005, 07:09 PM My dh has a ba in photography. I use his experience to get him to photo my hair. His specialty isn't long hair, but he knows how to handle the lighting, etc.
Poledra January 18th, 2005, 07:16 PM I indeed consider photography one of my main hobbies. I love taking pictures of landscape, architecture, and wildlife particularly. I've tried to get into portraiture, but I'm never happy with the result. I'm currently working on a project to document the turn of the seasons as part of my exploration of my spirituality, and am considering eventually creating my own tarot deck using photography.
Most of my pictures are travel pictures, I have 14 rolls of film from 7 weeks in Jordan, and love looking at them.
Does anybody else ever feel bad for inflicting their passion on others? People always ask to see my pictures from my trip, but their all pictures of buildings, or things I found interesting, but are interminably boring for everybody else.
Anyways, I love taking pictures and hope to continue doing so for a long time. I have a pentax slr as my baby :cloud9: and have a digital that I use when I want something smaller.

KinkyRoots January 19th, 2005, 03:00 AM I love photography - I actually went to an evening class to learn more and print my own pictures. It was a really good experience and completely different from my day job. I was by far the least creative person there but I still managed some fabulous prints, I even have one on the wall
I really want a high end digital camera, I know their limitations and that purists often moan about them, but I think it would mean I could indulge more often and more conveniently.
Volkswillow January 19th, 2005, 04:37 AM I love to take pictures, too, though I'm not all that good at it. I have a Cannon SLR that I'd love to get into using, but I'm not very good at lighting/exposure, etc on manual cameras. My baby is a Fuji-Finepix s5000 - Not SLR, but with every other bell and whistle I can think of. I can point and shoot with it, and be ensured for GREAT pictures, OR i can train myself into setting exposure and focus. I love it!
OneKnight - It's SOO difficult to get animal Photos right! I admire anyone who bothers trying!
and Poledra - I love your idea of a photographed tarot deck! Something as personal as that would probably give out some really good readings!!

I travelled to Europe some years ago and took loads of pictures of buildings because they are just so amazing over there. So, ya, I can relate :face:
I have done loads of long hair photography too. The funnest part is just meeting the people. Usually, these are people that haven't modelled before...they are a little uptight in front of the camera at the start and then loosen up later on. It is a lot of fun to see :) I now have a lot of equipment (at last) so I can't wait till Spring to do some outdoor portraiture photography (reflectors are a godsend, as well as a shoe-mount flash).
I damged my film SLR so I am hoping to get a Canon EOS 20D. Very nice camera but costs 2 grand. I want it soooo BAD!
Beatnik Guy January 19th, 2005, 11:56 AM Yup, I take boringly "arty" travel photos too...
I've also been known to take photos of long haired friends - which is lotsa fun.
I guess I'm kinda a Nikon fiend, as I have a F55 SLR, a Coolpix 2100 which I've had a for a while - and recently acquired a Coolpix 5400, which has still not really been tested under photosafarial conditions due generally crappy winter light.

Sometimes, it's just being there at the right moment. Skill plus luck ;) I have some deer pix on my camera right now, can't wait to see them! Here is some of my older stuff:
one of my first calf pix (http://www.freewebs.com/marvinranchnerd/winner.jpg)
same calf, older (http://www.freewebs.com/marvinranchnerd/smokeybig001.jpg)

psycho January 20th, 2005, 05:23 PM I have always been really into photography, I usually use my old Canon T-50 but have recently been experimenting with the digi-cam my boyfriend gave me for christmas. I've sold a couple of stock photos. My subjects are mostly horses, dogs, and some wildlife, though one of my very best pictures was of a tree.
Jentle February 15th, 2005, 07:45 PM I dabble in photography, though I can only be bothered by digital.
Here's my photolog - http://homepage.mac.com/jentoal/jphoto ... Lately it's been all about my bunnies and my stepdaughter, not much in the way of artsy photos...
Quirky February 15th, 2005, 08:27 PM Great pics you guys!
