I'm wondering how everyone cleans their brushes, and what type of brush they are cleaning?

View Full Version : How do you clean your brush? euphrasyne April 15th, 2003, 02:37 AM I'm wondering how everyone cleans their brushes, and what type of brush they are cleaning? --Cheryl DweamGoiL April 15th, 2003, 05:14 AM with a small rake from Fuller at the end of the week. During the week, I use my fingers to remove shed hairs and when I use the rake, I rinse the brush with really warm water and some soap and pass the rake over it a few more times and let it air dry. snippet April 15th, 2003, 05:25 AM I pull the hairs almost daily. Once a week, I wash them in warm soapy (shampoo soap) water and use an old fingernail brush to clean them. My daughter's new Denman brush is simply gross. It collects a lot of gunk, and so I'm cleaning it almost every day. I'm going to declarify her hair tonight and see if it helps. I think she needs a refresher in 'how to wash your hair 101.' Rachel April 15th, 2003, 08:47 AM I think she needs a refresher in 'how to wash your hair 101.' Lol Snippet! Anyways, I remove the hairs from mine almost daily (ok, sometimes every other day) and let them sit in a sink of hot soapy water at the end of the week. When I let it sit in the hot water, I don't have to clean them manually - all the dust and gunk just floats to the surface. No scrubbing or picking stuff out from the bristles. Oh, and I'm using a plastic (?) vent brush, and a Revlon bbb. Rachel smiles April 15th, 2003, 01:31 PM every week - soak all combs, brushes in warm soapy (actually shampoo-ey) water - add one spoon acv - leave it for an hr and then wash it away. thats my routine. after coming to this board, i discovered that my comb cleaning brush  is not really a comb cleaning one LoL and is goody's pocket brush which is a good brand and is the favourite in my purse now. mutters to self~~~~need to upgrade it to a pocket size denman. Carolyn April 15th, 2003, 02:45 PM I use my comb or the thing that came with my MP brush to clean out the collected hair. About every other day. I suppose I should be embarrassed to say this but I don't wash my brushes. I just clean the hair out. I'm kind of afraid to wash my BBBs and my wooden bristle brush. Deborah April 15th, 2003, 02:58 PM Carolyn, Don't feel bad. On an old board there were ladies who said it was best to NEVER wash a BBB in water. They felt that the sebum from your hair was really good for the bristles, and should not be removed. I have an MP BBB. Most of the time I just remove the hair and whatever with a hair brush cleaning brush. I have the MP version and a 99cent version from Sally's. I think the cheapie is actually better. About once every month or so, I put some shampoo in warm water in my sink, dip the bristles quickly, then scrub a little with the hair brush cleaning brush. This seem to do a great job. You don't want to fully immerse an MP or Jean-Pierre because water will go in behind the rubber pad, and that's apparently a big no-no. Deborah Teacherbear April 15th, 2003, 05:03 PM I pull the hairs out every time or every other time I brush . .. . brush gets too bushy otherwise! ;) hahahahaahahahahaha I actually "shampoo" my brush . . . . um . . . rarely . . . . . like every 3-8 months! (yes, I know . . . I said three to eight! hahahaha I do it more than once a year, but rarely more than that). My rationalization is that I do not typically oil my hair or use gels, mousse, etc . . . so my brush only gets hair oils. Maybe that's gross, but it just doesn't seem like it needs more washing than that. BTW these are my plastic/nylon brushes . . . I do not wet-wash my bbbs. I use the included "brush cleaner" brush that came with my MPs on the bbbs. Pixna April 16th, 2003, 04:37 AM I guess my head oozes more gunk than the average person, because I have to wash my combs and Denman brush at least once or twice a week. I remove the brush head from the Denman and put that and my combs in a sinkful of hot water and shampoo. I let them soak a bit and then I scrub the combs with a nail brush and use my fingers to get between the rows of nylon bristles on the Denman. Then I just rinse, dry the combs, pat the Denman on a towel, and let everything air dry completely. Smiles: Does the ACV help with cleaning or do you use it to disinfect or help neutralize odors? smiles April 16th, 2003, 09:46 AM Smiles: Does the ACV help with cleaning or do you use it to disinfect or help neutralize odors?[/color] yup, it does. i read somewhere that acv disinfects :) and i thot if it can remove the buildup from my hair, then why not from my brushes/combs ;) and yes, pixna, it makes the cleaning a lot more easier than it used to be. give it a try, u might like it. and no, the combs dont smell bad ;) Anne April 19th, 2003, 01:20 AM I use a comb to remove the hair I can't get with my fingers, then I swish it around in a gentle shampooey bubbly tub of warm water, rinse and air dry. Quirky April 29th, 2003, 07:24 PM I throw mine in the washing machine. I guess you can tell that I don't have much $$$ invested in my hairbrush? I will be buying one of the nice, expensive ones when my hair is to bs length as a reward though! Well, maybe one that isn't too expensive :what: |
