I was looking at the ingredients....and found that some of the ingredients seemed more gentle than those in regular shampoos....are they good enough and safe to use on hair...will they actually work??? Has anyone tried using baby shampoo????

Baby shampoo is made to be gentle on the eyes in case suds accidentally get in a baby's eyes. I tried using Johnson&Johnson baby shampoo years ago, and it was actually quite drying on my hair. I've heard good things about California Baby shampoo though.

Paula Begoun did some reviews on baby skin care, including shampoos:

I love the California Baby shampoo, but it's the only baby poo I've seen without sulfates, which I think is the difference. It really is mild, tho, so I'm experimenting with mixing it with just a dash of an SLS poo, in my water bottle, and I'm having really good results with that. It's amazing how LITTLE poo (at least my hair) needs.

While I do know some family members who use it, I haven't used it for some time :D , and can't comment on it's effectiveness. I do agree, though, that it's made to be gentle to the eyes - I heard that they match the ph of the shampoo to the ph of the eyes, so that it won't sting.

I've heard some other sources that they add an ingredient that numbs the eyes in case of contact, but don't know how reliable that is.

I've tried Johnson's Baby Shampoo before and it was drying. I figured that it must be gentle on my hair if it was gentle enough to use on a baby, but nope. Didn't work that way. Even their detangling shampoo didn't detangle that well. I have better results with regular shampoo and conditioner.

i also have to agree that baby shampoo didn't work well for me. for some reason it just didn't cleanse my scalp right. HOWEVER, california baby rocks, i think. cleanses my scalp w/o it getting itchy (ie dried out). for me it just showed that sulfates are just not my friend regardless of the concentration they are in a shampoo (unless it's like the last ingredient or something).

I'm using baby shampoo for quite a while now because I have a very sensitive scalp. But not all of them are without SLS or ALS! Mine is a supermarket brand and it's very gentle. My hair is less dry and it has reduced frizz to a minimum and I my scalp is happy. Here is the ingredients list:

Sorbitol
Cocamidopropyl Betaine
Lauryl Glucoside
Coco-Glucoside
Sodium Lauroyl Glutamate
Sodium Chloride
Panthenol
Starch Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride
Persea Gratissima
Keratin Amino Acids
Citric Acid
Benzyl Alcohol

Most baby shampoos are VERY drying... need to check the label.
