They're finally back in business!
http://www.sportbrain.com

The company was started in the US (I think) a couple years ago, went under because they weren't charging for their services  , and now I think has been bought out and taken over by a company in Great Britan.

DH and I got them from the original company and loved them, couldn't use them for a year or so during the buyout, and are now finally are up and running (I should say "stepping") again. It's a fabulous little pedometer that helps you track your activity.

Is anyone else using one of these?

No I hadn't heard of it. After looking at it, it's cute, but really expensive! $159 for two and then a yearly fee? What will happen if they disappear again? How will you get your steps off the brain?

I've got something similar though. It's a StepKeeper and connects to my PDA, it only works for Handspring PDAs with springboard capability. It's okay, but lately I've been thinking of buying a normal pedometer. Teacherbear had one in Dallas and I liked it.

As an aside, why are there so many pedometer packages geared to teatchers and education?

Yeah - it was a lot cheaper with the original company. You just bought the equipment and the service was free. (Guess why they went under?) But since we've already got the equipment, just the service is not too bad. If you have more than one (like for a DH, DS, DD, etc.), service on the 2nd-4th ones is half-price. You can actually still get the original equipment packs on eBay for pretty cheap, I think.

It's WAY less obnoxious than any other pedometers I've seen. It doesn't click or tick (just a tiny flash with each step), and it's really easy to wear - very small (smaller than any pager) and sleek.

To upload your activity, you pop it into the "port" (a little 3" square desk-top box thing) which is plugged into your phoneline (no computer hookup) and the port calls an 800-number and transmits your info. You can see your activity on the website, where they have great analysis tools, forums, competitions and all kinds of stuff. It'll even record my heartrate when I work out with a heart monitor at the gym. It's pretty nifty.
