My name is Karen and I'm trying to regrow my hair. When I found this site, I was on cloud 9 and have been trying to read everything here! It's a wonderful place to be.
My natural hair color is very black with some reddish-brown highlights in bright sun. However, about 2 1/2 years ago I wanted a change and decided to dye my hair a golden brown color, which is beautiful and matches my complexion much better than the black. My hair did fine and was healthy for about a year. Then two things started the damage: getting golden blonde highlights, and following the Feria dye directions that say to comb the dye through my hair for the last several minutes of touchup to "refresh the color". In time I began to notice that my ends were getting thin and splitting, making my hair shorter than I want it to be. I stopped combing the dye through my hair earlier this year, and I'm very careful to only touch up the regrowth, which seems to be helping. Over the summer, I went natural and wore my hair curly (I'm 3b/3c, pretty curls but can get frizzy) and didn't use any heat on my hair. I love the look, but it's just way too short after the shrinkage. Now that it's cold out, I've gone back to blow drying for the straight look, but I know that's super damaging. So I'm trying to regrow my hair so that I can wear it curly all the time. The longest my hair has been was bra strap length at the longest point (my hair tends to grow in a 'v'). I've been seriously considering letting my natural hair color grow back although I really don't want to (I love my new color!) I'm hoping to get some good tips here for keeping my ends moisturized and encouraging growth.
Thanks for letting me join, and I'll keep on reading!
