Help! I finally bought a Denman brush, but my hair flies away like crazy to the point that I'm afraid I'll damage it. :silly:

Any tips or suggestions??? Thanks!!!

There have been TWO times that I've had static with my Denmans. Both times were following shampoo and conditioner, and NO Mastey FreHair. What I did was to make darn sure to use that FreHair the next time. You could also rinse the brush with a conditioner-water concoction, but I hate the idea of getting water into that rubber base. It IS removable, but it's kinda a pain to take it all apart. You have to be seriously wanting something fixed to dig into that bit of work, KWIM?

I love Mastey FreHair. Did I mention that I LOVE Mastey FreHair? Eliminates static, reduces tangles. I LOVE Mastey FreHair.

I get static with my Denmans, too. Usually just a misting of distilled water with EOs (in my case a couple of drops of lavender) adds enough moisture to get rid of the static, regardless of what I'm brushing/combing with.

I've never tried Mastey FreHair, but I know others here would agree with LJ that the stuff rocks. :rockerdude:

HTH!

is this the slightly curved brush whith the sythetic bristles?(the classic)
if so i used to have one of these.(when i was a kid) i know you wont want to but if you bite a bristle you will find that it is really soft(please dont do this as it becomes addictive lol well i was a child)
the bristles i think are polthene or similar. and so naturally static things. when i had one nothing i could do would prevent it. perhaps though misting hair might help but then you would be brushing damp hair. also with a brush like this, central heating or frosty weather would not help.
im glad others have overcome the static but i never could. good luck.

Wow -- I feel lucky that I haven't had any static with my Denman brush. In fact, I'm still head over heels in love with it!!! It might be because I oil my hair after shampooing. Perhaps oiling your hair, combing the oil through, and then brushing with the Denman would help. I hope you're able to figure something out, Rosie, as I just adore this brush, and it would be a shame for you to miss out on its many wonderful attributes.

Perhaps I should clarify (my post, not my hair ;-)). When I mist my hair I use a very fine mist and only do it lightly. It dries within minutes so I can brush without worrying about damage. Even just that little bit of moisture makes a difference with the static. I'm looking forward to consistently warm days, though. I've had enough of cold, dry weather! :-)

i willowcandra am about to eat my harsh harsh words about the denman classic brush..... im sorry mr denman brush (for tis a male) i have in the past looked at you and winced with the thught of the pain you would cause and the static you bring. i have just pulled my denman classic out of my hairdressing box.(not the chewed up childhood brush that my mum used on me!) but the one i had at colledge. i have just put this through my hair and have been enlightened! this brush is amazing, not only did it detangle easier and less painfully than my kent paddle brush but i also had no static (there is some monoi on my hair though, just a little.)
my brush rubber is a bit perished from yaers of neglect but while in the chemist the other day i noticed they sell the same brush in an array of colours so i think the purchase of a new purple one may well be in order along with the goody bbb i intend to buy tommorrow. weeeeeeee!(i dont have the money for this you know.)

Yay, Willowcandra!!!!! You know, I couldn't for the life of me imagine why folks were so enthralled with the Denman brush, that is, BEFORE I got one of my own. I couldn't fathom what could be so special about it. Well, my new spikey man-brush is quite the hunk, and I love him to bits (yes, I noticed mine was male, too! ;) ). I'm glad you pulled yours back out and gave it another whirl. You are lucky to have found them locally. I called around and no one seems to have them here, so I'm anxiously awaiting LisaJaney's kind offer to place another group order in the future. Can't have too many of these guys around, in my opinion!!! :D

Mmm -- a kiss-covered Denman sounds perfect!! I've already given mine quite a few smooches. ;) Bad influence, you say? Geez, I thought it was my mission to be a bad influence! Sounds like I'm doing a great job!!! :DD

Glad you rekindled that old flame willowcandra.

I personally don't like my Denman. Now, I know that seems scandalous, but they have such pointy bristles. It makes them seem cheap to me. I prefer bristles that aren't so pointy. I checked all the Denman brushes and the combs in Sally's when I purchased them and they were all made this way, so I'm sure mine aren't defects.

On the good side, they do have a nice weight to them. I could toss one at my dog when she's barking at a cat with good accuracy.
And if you like scraping your scalp, then these are the brushes for you. I'm not a tenderhead either, so this is why I'm so puzzled y'all like them so.

I'm still using my brush after a week; I have to give it a good chance to grow on me. Plus it helps me feel like I haven't wasted my money.

Thanks for all the tips! :)

Yes, I was using it on hair with no conditioners, since I am shampoo-testing at the moment.

I will try the Mastey Frehair, as I have a couple of bottles stocked up. Also, I can try a misting or light oiling.

I love the feel of the brush, but the static has got to go!!! :silly:
