View Full Version : What brush do you carry in your purse?
sneakybea April 6th, 2003, 12:31 PM Hey all. My regular hair brush is a wonderful Ambassador brush with both natural and synthetic bristles. It is a terrific combination for my hair. The brushes I carry in my purse and backpack, however, are cheapo brushes from Target (one of which is breaking, anyway). It seems silly for me to care so much about the quality of my regular brush, and yet use a purse brush that may be damaging my hair. However, it's been hard for me to find quality brushes that are also small enough to carry around in my bag. Do any of you have suggestions for good quality, purse-sized brushes?
Thanks in advance.
Kim B.
Kitty Brite April 6th, 2003, 01:24 PM How big is your purse? My regular brushes fit in my purse and they are about 12" long (I MAKE them fit! lol!)
Jean-pierre has smaller sized brushes than the 12" ones. maybe you could find some there?
Nitsa April 6th, 2003, 03:05 PM I have a Mason Pearson Pocket that I keep in my purse. It fits nicely into a sunglass case.
Martine April 6th, 2003, 04:48 PM In my purse I carry a small brush because I prefer a small purse. I usually either have a Mason Pearson Pocket or a small soft bristle bbb.
snippet April 6th, 2003, 05:44 PM I know what you mean, my purse brush is larger than I want and I think it's tearing the insides out.
When everyone was ordering Denman's someone ordered their 3 row comb and it intrigued me. When I was at Sally's I bought two of them and I have to say I love them. The Denman isn't my favorite, it looks cheap and the bristles are too pointy. But the other one I got (not a Denman) is really great, the tips are rounded more.
I have replaced my purse and backpack brushes with these two combs, they fit so nicely!

hehe, poor Sunsailing. Joey in Friends carried a man purse, maybe you could too! ack, no I don't think so.
Teacherbear April 6th, 2003, 07:30 PM Denman carries a purse sized brush. It is of the same high quality as the D3, D4 etc. I highly recommend it as a brush purse. It is sturdy, well made, AND hair-friendly.
I do not carry a brush in my purse, but I do keep one in the car . . . a Denman.
HTH

I just bought the Denman purse sized brush during the last group order. I carry a small purse and it fits just fine. I also carry a pocket sized Kent comb (#54) in my purse.
HTH! :D
Anne April 6th, 2003, 10:56 PM A GM brush with a gentle smiley ;)
KT April 6th, 2003, 11:01 PM I hope I'm translating this right, since in Britain a purse is a very small wallet that women keep their cash and CC card in LOL!
By purse, are you meaning a small bag for your wallet, lipstick, tissues, keys etc, usually with a shoulder strap? If I'm right, that would be a handbag :)
So, in my handbag I carry an MP pocket in pure bristle, and either a Ric palm comb or a horn comb, depending on whether I expect my hair to be wet or dry when I comb it.
Pixna April 7th, 2003, 03:48 AM Snippet: I'm glad to hear you are enjoying your Denman combs. Can you tell me more about them -- do they feel as good as the brushes do on the scalp? I'm sorry you don't like their brushes -- my D5 is the newest love of my life! :D
TBear: Do you have a link to the purse-size brush? I might just have to add this (and the combs) to the next Denman order LisaJaney gets together (along with another D5 -- swoon!). I never thought I could be so in love with a hairbrush, but there you have it! ;)
DweamGoiL April 7th, 2003, 06:52 AM but I have a pocket-sized Ricki's BBB at work (I leave it in my drawer) since this is where I spend most of my time. It is slightly larger than the MP pocket, which I appreciate, but small enough to fit in a purse if I chose. The bristles are medium (not too soft and not too stiff) and at $12.99 can't go wrong!

Pixna, the comb I got is blue, has three rows of bristles that are just like the bristles on the D3 brush. It's length is about 8 inches, I'm guessing and the bristles run the full length of the comb. Although it doesn't have the weight of the brushes, I think it does a great job on the scalp. Being a brush person more than a comb person, I think it smooths out my hair better than a normal 1-row comb.
I was thinking that the comb would also make a great cleaner for my brushes.
Pixna April 7th, 2003, 07:14 AM THANKS, Snippet!!!!!! Sounds luscious, especially since I do love their brushes (even though I know you don't). I will be adding the combs to the future brush order -- can't wait!!! :D
LisaJaney April 7th, 2003, 08:12 AM Pix,
Those combs look really nice (boy, I wanted to try one, but I didn't) and are only about three bucks. The purse-sized denman is the D14, here's a pic from the Ball Beauty site ( http://www.ballbeauty.com/dentrad.htm ):

It's the one at the bottom. I own a D143, which is the same brush just with a longer handle. It has less rows, and the bristles are spread out more than your D5, but I LOVE it for wet detangling, and keep it in the bathroom for pre-wash and post-wash brushing.
Here's a pic of the combs, in case anyone is wondering "What the heck are they talking about? (pic also from the Ball Beauty site)

When we do another order, it will be from the Ball Beauty company. They have always been VERY fast with their shipments, and last time they were short one brush: Pixna's. I called them and asked them to send it to HER instead of to me, and they did. AT NO CHARGE! I knew they weren't going to charge me again because it was THEIR backorder situation, but I didn't expect them to send it to another address, let alone an address that is thousands of miles from me. I am very impressed with this company and am happy to deal with them again.
How soon do you think we need to do another order?????
Big hugs,
Lisa
Pixna April 7th, 2003, 09:00 AM How soon do you think we need to do another order?????
WHEN, you ask?? Well, I'm a complete order in and of myself (heehee), so I say RIGHT NOW, but I'm willing to wait until there are sufficient others who are interested to make it worthwhile. Now that you've got me hooked on the Denmans, I can't get enough!!!! You are an enabler, LJ, an evil enable I tell you!!!!! ;)
Carolyn April 12th, 2003, 04:00 AM I have a purse sized PM that I love. I also sometimes carry a wooden bristle brush from Body Shop. And my Kent comb. And about ahalf dozen hair toys :D
Siobhan April 12th, 2003, 04:56 AM I have an eany weany Kent black bristle, don't use it very often as my hair needs a good long gentle comb before going anywhere near it with a brush. It was a toss up between this and the Mason P. bubby one, that was twice the price, it was nearish the end of the month (ie running low on cash!) so the Kent won!
