View Full Version : Wanted: HAIRSCROOS
CurlyBrunette October 27th, 2004, 04:36 PM I am looking for a pair of hairscroos (any color) that anyone would like to part with. I missed the big order in August and I just have to have a pair. Willing to pay or swap.
UPDATE: A PAIR HAS BEEN GIVEN TO ME BY SOMEONE VERY KIND! THANKS AGAIN
LisaJaney October 31st, 2004, 10:26 AM That's great news, CurlyB! I was going to say (missed this post earlier, sorry) that we will be doing another hairscroo grouporder in November (around the 20th?) if you wanted to jump in to get some (or get some MORE) I know, I'm an enabler.....and I'm not ashamed of that fact!
LILBERT October 31st, 2004, 10:46 AM You already know i want some..
So T-bear is the ficcare fiend, and you hook people on hairscroos?
LisaJaney October 31st, 2004, 11:26 AM Yep, LilBert, I think that's just about right. You have us figured out!!! Yipes!
notjomama October 31st, 2004, 02:26 PM :rollin: :rollin: :rollin: Oh, would that make Lisa a "hairscroo hooker"???? hahahahahahaha
Leo's Mane October 31st, 2004, 02:32 PM I remember looking at these but don't remember where. Could someone post the site address again so that I can see if I might be interested in having some too(that is, if I'm allowed)?
Thanks for your time and effort.

notjomama October 31st, 2004, 02:41 PM HI Barb,
The lady that makes/sells em doesn't have a website. Here's a picture of them:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v162/LisaJaney/HairScroos.jpg
They come in black and gold, maybe silver? I don't remember if they come in silver. Hope this helps ya.

curls2grow October 31st, 2004, 02:53 PM Can someone who owns hairscroos tell me..
* Are they seamless?
* Does hair get caught where the 2 "prongs" cross?
Thanks!
LisaJaney October 31st, 2004, 02:55 PM Bwahahahaha, Notjo, you are TOO bad!!!!! I may hafta come see you before I get on that plane. Yeah, you'd be awake for a 4AM visit, wouldn't you????? Will you cook me a nice breakfast??? (and no, a PIE in my face doesn't count!) Hairscroo Hooker, eh? I can't WAIT to see what you come up with for TBear. Her letter is WAY worse than an H!
Leo's Mane October 31st, 2004, 02:56 PM Thanks, my dear, I should have known there was no website or I would have had it bookmarked! Thank you also for the prompt reply. Me thinks I may have to try some of these!
Also, I just LOVE your avatar and name. Too cute.

LisaJaney October 31st, 2004, 03:01 PM The prongs don't really CROSS, even though it LOOKS like they do. There are NO seams, and the tips of the "legs" are very smooth. I have described them this way:
They are like strands of DNA, minus the little ladder-rungs. Does that make any sense at all? It's hard to really SEE them on a picture. It's as if you took a piece of wire and laid it across the end of a broom-handle, then bent the wire down alonside the handle, then began twisting it AROUND that broomhandle. THAT's how they are made. Well, it's a really THIN broom handle. I think you could shove a wooden pencil up the center of them, but nothing much bigger than that.
Is that any help at all?
ETA: Oh, and Leo, you're surely allowed! We'd love to have you jump in!
curls2grow October 31st, 2004, 03:21 PM Yes, LisaJaney! Thanks, very helpful description (I read the other description from the prior post, too). :flower: Glad that they are seamless, and to know that the prongs don't cross (so no hair will get stuck). Can't wait to order them!
Do you think they would be easy for an uncoordinated updo newbie, who has not even tried hair sticks, or hair prongs before? (Between these and the Hair book, there may be hope for me yet!! :rockerdud)
dancingbarefoot October 31st, 2004, 05:36 PM They do come in silver tones as well, because that's what color I have.
joyinc October 31st, 2004, 06:27 PM are they metal or something? do they rust? not that it really matters, i'm gonna order some anyhow! lol, are they expensive?
CurlyBrunette October 31st, 2004, 07:26 PM Thanks LJ, I will hop on that order if it works out with the pair that is on its way to me! Thanks for the update on the SCROO order! That sounds funny
GoldenTresses October 31st, 2004, 07:40 PM How do you use them? For what styles? eeep.
THANKS!
notjomama October 31st, 2004, 07:48 PM Thanks, DBF!! I only have black ones.
Let's see, joyinc, they are made of metal. They don't rust, unless you scrape all the paint off. :) We've gotten them in the past for $6.00 a pair.
Golden Tresses, folks use them instead of bobby pins for buns, french twists, etc. I can't think of any other 'do's. Somebody help me out here...
curls2grow, I'm sure you can do it. I still practice with mine. I'm still clumsy and still end up throwing them and just doing a ponytail! LOL
Leo's Mane, thank you mah deah!! I'll have to go find what I posted about how I got my username and paste it here for ya. It's kind of funny. Well, at least to me... found it. Here it is:
Notjomama is from 'back in the day' when I was cute and skinny. A fellow employee saw me walking through the parking lot at work and said: hey momma! I said: I'm not your mother! Hence: not yo mama = notjomama. That's me!
And Lisa hon, at 4AM, all you'll be getting is CEREAL!!! and MAYBE a clean spoon! hehehe
LILBERT October 31st, 2004, 09:01 PM How big are they? I have some from boots, i was wondering how the size was compared.
Irishred November 1st, 2004, 01:59 AM That's great news, CurlyB! I was going to say (missed this post earlier, sorry) that we will be doing another hairscroo grouporder in November (around the 20th?) if you wanted to jump in to get some (or get some MORE) I know, I'm an enabler.....and I'm not ashamed of that fact!
NOVEMBER 20th? When do we start putting in our orders? Dang, I forgot I wanted to get at least 1 set of these in the next order, guess that takes out of my pennies for a ficcare. One thing at a time.
Yes you are all horrible enablers!
 Hair toys! hair toys! HAIR TOYS !!!!! (evil voice) Bwahahaha!
Irishred
LILBERT November 1st, 2004, 04:05 AM NOVEMBER 20th? guess that takes out of my pennies for a ficcare.
Irishred
Nooo! Not the ficcare fund?
Gem November 1st, 2004, 04:23 AM Care for one more in the group order? :D
These look really really NEAT! :silly:
curls2grow November 1st, 2004, 05:43 AM Yep, me too -- please count me in for the group order -- I know this is not the point at which you want the specifics of our order, but I don't wanna be left out!!! :rockerdud
joyinc November 1st, 2004, 09:04 AM oh if you are taking names now for the next order i am totally in
LisaJaney November 1st, 2004, 10:13 AM OK, I am compiling a list (post-it note on my CPU here) and it has these ladies on it:
Lilbert
curls2grow
cindihall
(a lady, marie, who emailed me; I get emails because these threads come up on GOOGLE)
Gem
Irishred
joyinc
The cost is $6 for a PAIR of scroos (normally, they retail for $8, but I know of nowhere where you can GET them retail, but anyhow....) and they come in matte silver metal (not painted) and semi-shiny gold (not painted) and shiny black enamel (this one is painted). They are very lightweight, so I'm guessing an aluminium heavy-guage wire is what they use. They are probably close to 2" long, but I don't have my scroos OR my tape-measure here, so don't quote me on that. And they are as big around as a lead pencil.
Yay! OH! I forgot about shipping. When we order, everybody pays $6 for each PAIR they order, then we all chip in 50-cents for the company-shipping, then whatever it takes to get them to your house. Normally, for one pair, it's 49-cents, 2 pair is 60-cents, and 4 pair were $1.29? I'm fuzzy on that part, but I just know it's cheap And I pack them with styrofoam around them so they don't get crunched.
Ask any Qs you wish......
Hugs,
Lisa
Leo's Mane November 1st, 2004, 12:02 PM Lisa
I'm interested too if you would be so kind. I'd like two brown please.
Thanks

Mamacat November 1st, 2004, 12:16 PM Count me in on this one too :) I've heard people talk about them so much I just HAVE to try some!
LisaJaney November 1st, 2004, 01:54 PM Got you two ladies down. Leo: is black close enough? (all they have is silver, gold, or black)
LilBert: I looked up postage for your location, and for 2 oz (one pair) it's $1.60, for 2-4 pair, it shoudl be $2.40... or we could add it to other things and make one shipment of it.
Quirky November 1st, 2004, 02:02 PM LisaJaney I'd like to order a pair of gold ones too!
curls2grow November 1st, 2004, 02:12 PM LisaJaney,
Please put me down for 3 pairs of black! Thanks so much.
Leo's Mane November 1st, 2004, 02:28 PM Yea, black's fine. Sorry, guess I can't read. DUH!
Thanks
Barb
Oh boy oh boy oh boy...........I made it, now I can edit!!!!!!!!!:inlove:
Gem November 1st, 2004, 02:33 PM How many scroos are usually good for a bun? Is it best to order more than one pair?
Lina November 1st, 2004, 04:37 PM *sigh*
Count me in for a pair of silver. I love my hairscroos but I lost a set so this will at least replace my missing ones.
Roses November 1st, 2004, 04:44 PM Oh, I am very interested in these!! But can you all give me a beginner's guide to hair scroos first? How do I use them? Is my hair long enough (24.5 inches)? What types of styles can you produce with them? Are they secure and comfy? Do you use both in the pair or just one at a time? TIA :flower:
AnaisSatin November 1st, 2004, 06:10 PM Wow, Igor raves about these for thick coarse hair so I'm stoked that we're having a group order!! But I can't decide on how many to order until I know (a) how they work and (b) how many are needed for a bun...
Ditto what Gem said.
Also, does the black enamel coat ever chip off?
GoldenTresses November 1st, 2004, 06:30 PM Why do you PREFER them to bobby pins?
Less damaging?
More secure?
Holds more hair?
THANKS!
CurlyBrunette November 1st, 2004, 06:40 PM Well, LJ, since I started this HAIRSCROO mania PLEASE put me in for 3 pairs of Scroos in BLACK and 1 pair in GOLD I am going to give a pair to my Mom because she is always complaining about how her buns wont stay up. She has VERY course, thick hair. A little stocking stuffer for Mommy!
So its $6 * 4 pairs =$24
With shipping and stuff it should be $25.79
Just let me know if thats correct
Thanks so much for doing this LJ!
:flowers:
CurlyBrunette November 1st, 2004, 06:50 PM I forgot to add that even though I just got them in the mail today from a fellow member here (so nice of her) I feel that I am an expert with these HAIRSCROOS. They are absolutely easier than easy, dont catch or pull the hair, definitely NO damaging or pulling like bobbies, they just screw into the hair anchoring it to your head. I would say that it depends on the thickness of your hair to know how many to use. I did a figure 8 and a regular cinnamon bun with 2, but I think that I could have used one more to make it REALLY hold. They are also VERY light so you wont feel like you have a heavy head.
Thats why I am ordering a bunch. I think that I am going to lose or misplace a few. They are light and tiny and I am sure my kids will get their hands on them. I hope I answered your questions.
notjomama November 1st, 2004, 06:53 PM Here's Lisa's step-by-step:
"They are fabulous for putting up buns and frenchtwists. Basically, they are shaped like a DNA strand, MINUS the little ladder-rungs up the center. YOu make your bun (or twist) and then set the two "feet" of the ladder against the side of the bun at 3o'clock and begin twisting it into the bun. You will feel the feet "grabbing bun-hair, then scalp-hair, then bun-hair, then scalp-hair..." and it anchors that 'do to your head. Insert a second scroo so that it will INTERSECTS the first one, and voila! Secure hairstyle! I use two for my bunnage, others need more because they're more aptly-endowed with hair than my meager tresses."
Golden Tresses: Why do you PREFER them to bobby pins?
Less damaging? Yup
More secure? Yup
Holds more hair? Yup
I have thick hair and if I ever got better at making them work correctly, I'd probably use 3 or 4 for a bun. I think I'll use a hairnet next time I try. I have layers and it just doesn't work w/out a hair net for me. :(
dancingbarefoot November 1st, 2004, 07:02 PM I like them, but I find that they want to unscrew themselves and fall out of my hair sometimes. They seem to work best when I've got a very tight and/or damp updo.
What do others think about this?
LILBERT November 1st, 2004, 09:20 PM Can i have a pair of gold ones please?
Thanks for checking on postage
Gem November 2nd, 2004, 02:18 AM Two pairs of black for me please (just to be on the safe side ;)).
curls2grow November 2nd, 2004, 02:18 AM Okay, great tips as to how to get them in, but how do you get them OUT? Do you "un-scroo", or just gently pull?
Leo's Mane November 2nd, 2004, 02:57 AM Oh my Lisa, sounds like I better make it two pair also......just in case one of the others 'walks' away. :blushing:
Thanks again
Roses November 2nd, 2004, 03:13 AM Ok - I'm sold! Please put me down for one pair of the black ones. My first group order -- I'm so excited!!
Irishred November 2nd, 2004, 03:14 AM LJ,
TY, you are so sweet you enabler you.
Please put me down for 1 pair GOLD. That will total about $7 - right?
When is your cut off date for the order? I may add another set later, need to asses the hair funds after the bills get paid this month :-D
Irishred <---- searching the sofa and car for more pennies
seabear November 2nd, 2004, 03:44 AM LJ, can you please put me down for 2 pairs of the black? And please let me know if I can help in any way, looks like this is going to be one honkin' big group order!
Thank you!
notjomama November 2nd, 2004, 05:09 AM Yes, you take them out the opposite of how you put them in.
Okay, great tips as to how to get them in, but how do you get them OUT? Do you "un-scroo", or just gently pull?
LisaJaney November 2nd, 2004, 06:00 AM Mercy! This is fun! Hairscroo group orders are the funnest because they just go together SO easily....and packing them is a breeze (well, except cutting the styrofoam/polystyrene; it flakes and gets little static-ized curds everywhere that CLING to me!) and they are easy and lightweight to ship.
I think I have everyone down so far. At this point it's on a rapidly-filling post-it note, and I will put it onto a WORD document and get a post on this thread (probably edit it into the top post here, actually, and then amend it as I need to)
Wonder if we want to do dogtowels again??? That makes it a little more difficult, but those dogtowels are sure nice (they're a less expensive Aquis microfiber towel. Last time, we had a BIG order of them and they were - at that quantity - $6.50 each? something like that. I ordered 13 of them. 5 for us, and 8 for my mom) you can see them at progroom.com, and they're called Rinse Ace microfiber towel. They're a generous size, and I like 'em.... Enabler.... Bwahahahahahaha! I'll make a separate post to ask if anyone wants dogtowels for the Holidays....
joyinc November 2nd, 2004, 06:13 AM are hairscroos all the same size? for some reason i thought they were different sizes? maybe i am mixing them up with something else.
LisaJaney November 2nd, 2004, 06:22 AM No, they're all the same size. I understand they do have a skinnier version in Germany, I think that's how Madeleine said it. (last time we did a group order, she had mentioned being able to get them locally - for her - but that they were a little smaller or skinnier or something. That was touted as being nice for people with finer hair, IIRC)
joyinc November 2nd, 2004, 06:31 AM well then, in that case, could i order one pair of each color? silver, gold, and black?
thank you!
seabear November 2nd, 2004, 06:38 AM ... dogtowels for the Holidays....
 Hee! Sounds like a twisted Christmas Carol! Ahem, mi mi mi... "Deck the halls with dogtowels for the Holidays..."
PurpleCow November 2nd, 2004, 11:10 AM I'm in for 2 pairs of hairscroos in gold and 3 dog towels. Thanks for doing this order LJ! :flower:
windyhill November 2nd, 2004, 11:59 AM Can you put me down for a 1 gold and 1 black set?
I was just thinking about what these would be like and now this group order, very exciting...
Elora November 3rd, 2004, 01:06 PM Can I get 1 pair each of silver and black?
Weeeee, first group order... I have been buying way too many things lately...
Meezer November 5th, 2004, 02:39 AM Count me in too! These SCROOS sound neat-o and I absolutely hate the way that bobby-pin tips often come off and yank on my hair.
I would like:
1 pair of gold SCROOS
1 pair of black SCROOS
:D
Lina November 5th, 2004, 04:54 AM *scowls*
I have lost BOTH sets of my scroos. I know I only asked for one pair of silver but may I please bump that up to two silver pair? I miss my scroos!
Irishred November 5th, 2004, 05:47 AM LJ,
Please cancel my order for hair scroos. I cannot do it right now.
TY
Irisred
omly November 7th, 2004, 04:29 PM My precious black pair is missing :(
Can I get 2 black pairs and one silver? (2 prs were going to be xmas presents, but *obviously i should get a back up pair at this rate)
curls2grow November 7th, 2004, 04:49 PM To those ordering silver hairscroos -- I am just curious about silver and have a dumb question -- what color hair (other than grey) do they work well in, or are they so hidden that it doesn't matter? I have dark brown hair.
Lina November 8th, 2004, 02:26 AM You really can't see much of them but I have dark brown hair. I wear silver jewlrey so I like the silver scroos.
curls2grow November 16th, 2004, 05:11 PM LisaJaney, please change my hairscroo order to two (2) pairs of black. I originally wanted 3. Sorry for the trouble. Thanks very much!
cindihall November 16th, 2004, 07:57 PM Hi there...please put me down for 5 pair of gold hair scroos....I will gladly paypal you the money....I am new to this board and want some scroos desparately!!!! thanks.....Cindi
LisaJaney November 17th, 2004, 08:04 AM OK, I am caught up to this point in the thread. If you want to amend your order (add to it, take away from it) please just make a new post to this thread, rather than EDITTING your previous posts here: that way, I don't have to tiptoe through the first five pages again. Yippee!!!! I think I'll order this coming Monday (the 22nd) when I get home from YET ANOTHER swim meet!!!
Here's what I have so far for the hairscroo ladies (these are in PAIRS, so "1 black" means a PAIR of black):
Cindyhall: 5 gold
Curls2grow: 2 black
CurlyBrunette: 3 black and 1 gold
Elora: 1 silver and 1 black
Gem: 2 black
joyinc: 1 black, 1 silver and 1 gold
Leo's Mane: 2 black (and some sewn items)

curls2grow November 17th, 2004, 08:34 AM LisaJaney, this is my first group order -- when/how do you prefer that we pay you and how much? Thanks!
joyinc November 17th, 2004, 09:33 AM shoot good thing i looked here! mine says one black, but it should say one of each color. 1 black, 1 silver, 1 gold :)
thanks so much!
Therese November 17th, 2004, 10:21 AM LisaJaney,
I'm new, just joined 2 days ago, & I'd like to order the HairScroos too if possible. I've used them before & have been looking for them for several years now. I can't believe you can order them. Please let me know if it's possible for me to order them since I'm so new here. I'd love to get one set of gold & 2 sets of brown. I'm assuming these come in sets but I probably should ask: how many scroos come in a set? Thank you.
Therese
LisaJaney November 17th, 2004, 11:14 AM Joy, I have written down on my Post-it note that you want one of each, but didn't type it correctly; I've fixed that now (so sorry! Didn't mean to worry you!!! And I'm so, so, SOOO glad you checked and let me know I'd fouled up!)
Curls, I will gather the "wish list" and then call the company and order/pay-for the scroos, and she sends 'em to me. Then I divide up the scroo-shipping (company-shipping) among all the participants (usually it's been fifty cents) and package them individually and get a proper weight/postage-amt and let you konw the total and how to pay (PayPal and checks/moneyorders are all good). Piece of cake!
Therese, I have no problem with you ordering, and welcome you heartily to the group! One problem, though: they don't have BROWN, but they do have BLACK. Will black be alright? (Gold, silver or black, that's all the choices we have....) And they come in sets of TWO. For $6, you get two scroos (plus whatever the postage fees are). They're (as you know) GREAT hair-toys!
Hugs,
Lisa
Therese November 17th, 2004, 11:26 AM LisaJaney,
You are so fast! I thought someone had mentioned brown; black is just fine. So, 1 gold, 2 black. I can't thank you enough -- I thought I'd never see more of these again which is why I've been saving my little collection, never using them.
Therese
AnaisSatin November 17th, 2004, 01:32 PM I didn't see this thread
joyinc November 17th, 2004, 01:57 PM Joy, I have written down on my Post-it note that you want one of each, but didn't type it correctly; I've fixed that now (so sorry! Didn't mean to worry you!!! And I'm so, so, SOOO glad you checked and let me know I'd fouled up!)
I'm glad too! those black ones are the ones i was planning on giving away to a friend with dark hair for christmas! that wouldnt make any for me! lol
:)
Irishred November 17th, 2004, 02:45 PM LJ,
I re-evaluated funds and decided that I can do the 'scroos'. With all the hectics of the holidays I need a little pampering too :-D

OH, PS: those who wanted to know how to pay: I do checks/moneyorders and PayPal. I will be sending you all a PM to detail those addresses and accounts (not going to put that on the board, of course!) and also to get some of your mailing addresses.
The PM you get will look something like this:
Matilda:
3 towels @ $6.50 = $19.50
Towel-company shipping = 50-cents
2 pair scroos @ $6
Scroo company shipping = 50-cents
Shipping from my house to yours (this is NOT accurate, but..) $5
Grand total is $31.50. If paying by check, send that amount to:
LisaJaney
123 Fairydust street
Melville Wisconsin 55555
If paying by Paypal with "cash or e-check", please send $31.50 to xxx@fairydust.net.
If paying by creditcard/debitcard through paypal, please add fees of $1.25 (new total is $32.75) and pay to xyz@dustfairy.net.
Of course, I won't have the EXACT total til the things are AT my house and I can get them weighed after I have them boxed and ready to mail. This will be right after Thanksgiving. If I order today or tomorrow, there's no way they will be here before the holiday...
That's it for now! Thanks, ladies! CORRECT ME IF I HAVE ANYTHING WRONG ON YOUR ORDER!!!!
Hugs,
Lisa
