View Full Version : KittyBrite: how can your hair be 10"?
snippet February 19th, 2003, 07:40 PM Don't take this wrong, but I can't imagine how you measured this?
If your hair was short short, and you measured from the front hairline to the nape, you'd have to come up with a number larger than 10". Right? Or maybe I have an extremely large head (things are bigger in Texas, ya know! :D )
February 20th, 2003, 04:14 AM Hey I was thinking that kitty is measuring wrong too...Are you measuring from the hairline Kitty? :)
LisaJaney February 20th, 2003, 06:51 AM only four inches, and I only measured the length of the longest hairs; if I measure just my nearly-bald head, you'd have an idea of how big my head is, and that's just depressing. In band (wayyyyy back in highschool) Mr Fisher used to hand out the band uniforms, and when he'd pull MY hatbox out and hold it up, I HATED that part. It was the box that had "XXL" written in red ink ALL OVER IT. It also had some guy's name, like "Moose Thompson" on it -- a guy you'd HAFTA know had a gargantuan head. You don't get a name like Moose for being a pinhead. Gee whiz...... Flashback time, and it ain't good.....
Hugs
Feye February 20th, 2003, 07:30 AM LisaJaney... you made me laugh so much with your post. Actually, for me it was the opposite. I had the smallest head in class (except for a short korean guy who only reached to my shoulders, and he had only one size smaller). When we ordered hats I was so embarassed, thinking that my head looked so small and my body so gigantic.
Actually, it would be nice to have a slightly bigger head, because it would make my hair hang 'wider' on my back, instead of just trailing straight down from my small head and only cover half of my back. Don't laugh, but that's actually one of my concerns with growing my hair longer. Because the longer it grows, the less it spreads out to the sides.
But really, my head doesn't look small, and yours doesn't look big. I bet none of us would ever have known unless we had to order hats in high school, right? :D
February 20th, 2003, 07:47 AM LOL @LisaJaney
I have no idea if my head is big or not. Didn't get it measured in high school because I was one of the few that didn't want a hat.

ok, now I get it. I just couldn't imagine how she did it. I hope she isn't offended, I haven't seen her post yet. I was thinking she shortchanged herself when measuring. But then again I forgot that the intent is really being consistent in how you measure your hair, not measure like everyone else. She's coming up on shoulder length, so that's great.
LisaJaney February 20th, 2003, 12:40 PM I only measured "actual strand length" for that FIRST measurement. My current- and goal- lengths are measured the way everyone ELSE measures here. I only hide my big old head that way....
And for Feye, that's too funny. I suppose that if we put our heads together.....we'd have a heck of a match, huh!! I hated that big old hatbox and thought time and again how MUCH I'd like to just LOSE the box and all its RED INK.
Katrine, I never wore hats, either, because I thought they looked silly on me. Turns out that they don't look silly on me; it's just that they messed up my BANGS. Now that I am growing them out, I will be able to wear hats just fine. I wear them all summer long now, and I have quite a collection going, too! Just funky straw hats, various weaves and colors. Very nice. But I do have to shop carefully for them because some of them are so tiiiiiiiny! It just doesn't do to have a hat sliiiiiiiiide and POP right off the top of your head!
My husband has a larger head, too (no, we are NOT circus freaks, and neither of us is catortionistic) and I told him - after the birth of our first son, whose head was rougly the size of Detroit - that I should have screened my applicants more carefully and married a man who had a smaller head, knowing I would have to give BIRTH to his offspring!!! No trouble with the twins; heck, Momma was a waterslide after the first one!
Oh my, did she just SAY that out loud/???? Yikes!
LONGHAIR February 20th, 2003, 12:46 PM No, but you certainly TYPED it out loud!
TMI,
Certain things you just don't need to know about your sister!?!?!
Cowgal February 20th, 2003, 12:50 PM LISA JANEY!!!! NOONE can tell a story and make me laugh as good as you can. If I met you in person, I'd never get a word in, I would be in tears laughing!
Sounds like you and your husband sure have a fun time together. I'd like to be there when you send a frozen Tombstone pizza through his oven. Teehee. You give me good ideas for when I get married. I am sure Jon will thank you..!! (((((((((big hugs))))))))))

I love hats too! I've got mostly straw ones cuz it's so hot down here. But in the winter I wear this black crocheted thing with a rolled brim. I just love it. Only trouble with hats is that I can't wear my hair up or in a ponytail. That's okay in the winter when I wear my hair down all the time, but in summer it's just too hot. I need large hats in summer to hold a bun too. Is that possible?
LisaJaney February 20th, 2003, 01:56 PM Telling my brother TOO MUCH INFORMATION~~~~ That was actually an old line from "The Nanny" wherein Fran Drescher said her own head was so perfectly round and appealing at birth because her mother had had SUCH a time delivering the older sister. "After that, Ma was a waterslide" was what she said.
Holy Cow! Poor Bro!
And for Valerie, I think we would have a stellar time together. Just laughing and joking and....well, we'd have tighter tummies afterwards, for all the giggling we'd do! THAT's my kind of exercise routine! I made pizza for Dave last night, homemade dough and all that. I used just canned spaghetti sauce for the sauce (Del Monte, nothing special; it was just okay - needed a little sugar to take the edge off the tomato-sharpness) and then I put sauerkraut and broccoli and canned mushrooms on it, and for the MEAT we had diced liver/gizzards/hearts from the five roos Dan, Joe and I "put up" Monday. We did quick work of it, got them from the yard TO the freezer in about two hours. Not bad for a woman and two young kids who don't like to do much more than the plucking. I'm teaching them more and more each time; soon they'll be doing the whole job by themselves. They don't HAVE to; I just want to know that they CAN if they needed to. And they weren't pets -- just young testosterone-overloaded roos who would begin raping and pillaging in the henyard in about a month. They were Leastun's sons, but there were just too many of 'em! Plus, Izzy doesn't need the competition!
February 20th, 2003, 02:12 PM I dont know if I like hats or not. In Denmark (and probably the rest of scandinavia) you get a hat when you graduate highschool. It is actually kind of a white cap with some colored thread/lace/ribbon. The color tells what kind of highschool you went too. Red is ordinary highschool. Blue is business. Green (I think) is techical etc etc. ( In Denmark there are a lot of young people that doesn't take high school diplomas. They take apprenticeships and that takes about 3-4 years)
I dropped out of highschool (ordinary) and took something called 'higher preparation exam'. That get you a hat with a lightblue ribbon (im guessing on the color). When I couldn't get the 'right' hat (red ribbon) I didn't want any.
People walk around with these hats for weeks (and the tourists are asking where they can buy them ;)) and it is because they are proud.
I wasn't proud (or the opposite).
To much info i know ;)
Teacherbear February 20th, 2003, 05:14 PM Oh, MY did that thread meander off in different directions!!!!!!!!
I never guessed it just on the info given on the discussion board page (what do you call that page???)
Now, let me just say: :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
Lisa's big ol' head, measuring "wrong" or just plain ol differently, warm fuzzy black hats in winter and no great summer hats, big ol' band hats, tiny little heads, poppin' babies out because one didn't properly analyze the spouses head size, to graduation beanies!!!!!! WOW That was an adventure!!!!! LOL
And I learned SOOOOOo mcuh!!!
My thoughts and reactions:
I HATED band hats! My hair ALWAYS got caught on a rivet or something in there and it HURT!
Lisa, as always TMI, but I love reading about it anyway! hahaahahahaha
Val, YES her hubby and her are a hoot to hang around, though he just stayed pretty quiet listing to her and me blab along for HOURS!!! hahaaha and YES, the tummy was firmer after all the laughing!
Katrine, those graduation beanies sound really cool. Can you post a picture of some kids wearing them?
That was too fun! ;)
snippet February 20th, 2003, 05:20 PM That's really interesting Katrine! I never knew that about graduation hats. Here in the US when you graduate from a college you wear a a a what's the name of that flat hat -- a mortar board!.... and it has a tassel colored according to the degree you earned. I got a gold one which was for my math degree. I wonder if your ribbons and our tassels come from the same tradition?
February 20th, 2003, 05:37 PM We dont get hats when we graduate college (actually here we dont have college only universities and schools for each not-university subject)
Here is a pic of the hats:

This is the one I 'earned'

This is the one I could have had if I wasn't a high school drop out. That is the original with most tradition. (You got this hat 'studenthat' and you would wear it through university. It was a sign that you was a student. But that is the past. Too many people graduate High school now and a lot of them dont go to university anymore):

LisaJaney February 20th, 2003, 06:02 PM really neat! Very smart-looking, too. ("smart" as in snappy or well-dressed-looking, although they would likely make a person look intelligent as well....)
This has been a most-interesting thread (well, except my horrid blabbering about "momma was a waterslide" stuff) and poor KittyBrite didn't even come to answer the questions. We just kinda went off on different rabbit-trails and had fun anyhow. Now.....where is the Kitty, and will she come tell us about measuring her hair so we can at least stay SOMEWHAT on topic? Not that it matters, I suppose (the staying-on-topic part.) I am NOT saying that I don't care about Kitty's measuring. I am interested to know the answer to the original question on the thread..... Gee whiz, I should shut up now...... (LH probably wishes I would have shut up before I said the waterslide comment....)
Hugs! (TBear, we DID have a lovely time laughing and chatting, huh! Can't WAIT to do that again!)
Kitty Brite February 21st, 2003, 05:51 AM Don't take this wrong, but I can't imagine how you measured this?
If your hair was short short, and you measured from the front hairline to the nape, you'd have to come up with a number larger than 10". Right? Or maybe I have an extremely large head (things are bigger in Texas, ya know! :D )
I don't think that's measuring right because that doesn't measure your hair, that measures your whole head! And I have a very small head. Still that would add about 5" to just about nothing.. I don't want to measure my hairline to the back because that isn't accurate at all. I measure from the begining of a root of the hair to the very end of the hair shaft. That just makes more sense to me than measuring your entire head at the begining of your hairline. Doesn't seem right at all.
Kitty Brite February 21st, 2003, 06:05 AM And.. I'm not offended ;) Just was busy...
I just want to measure my actual hairs not my hairline, my scalp, where hairs don't reach or grow. My numbers would come out about 5" or more so that would be about 15"-ish insches or more. I can't find my measuring tape at the moment. even though I have a small head ( have to wear kid sized hats it's so small) You should have seen my graduation picture. I really stuck out.
So... what do I need to measure my head for? I read how to measure your hair but.... I want to actually measure *hair* lol! ;) The shortest hairs are in the front, not everyone has hair that can be at the front of your hair line and reach all the way back to the ends of your hair. My friend can becuase she doesn't have a hair part at allmeasuring that way for her would be easier than it would be for me. I can't brush my hair back that way, it just doesn't reach at all. See what I'm saying? Roots to end just makes a more accurate number to me.. I mean it would definately seem like I have a lot more length than I have and it's always fun to cheat the numbers.. but I don't.. so :P From root to tip it is 10".. maybe more than that now since it's been a while since I've measured.
February 21st, 2003, 06:10 AM Kitty the only reason to measure it from the hairline is that it is consistent. It is not ' accurate' for anybody. Just do it any way you feel...I feel like only measuring/guessing in connection to bodylines/parts...as long as it helps you on your 'journey' its all good ;)
Kitty Brite February 21st, 2003, 06:20 AM It's pretty accurate for me to measure from the roots. My hair is always parted the same way, and always falls that way no matter how I have it up. (I always measure it from the same begining)
But I see what you mean about measuring from the front of your hairline, I also have a widow's peak. Do I measure from the begining of that? Still doesn't make much sense. The begining of my hair line isn't really.. um... "perfect" because some stray hair is growing underneithe where most of the hairs grow on my hairline.
When I find my mesuring tape, I'll measure both ways and see if there is a difference in hair growth accuracy. But for now, just so no one is confused the numbers are just how long my hair is.
:)
LisaJaney February 21st, 2003, 06:25 AM I could get into that!!!! I like Katrine's idea of only making a random "that's pretty close" guess as to my body measurements. I think I'll take that idea and run with it. Next time I need to find my waist measurement, I am gonna go with the DIAMETER of my waist, instead of the circumference. You wouldn't BELIEVE how many inches I'll shed that way!!!!! It'll be a THIRD of what it was!!!!
I like it!! Thanks, Katrine!!!
Hugs,
snippet February 21st, 2003, 11:38 AM I see what you mean now Kitty. Thanks for the reply. I would have a difficult time finding the longest hair on my head right now. If I bent forwards I would say it was my forehead hair, but standing straight up it would be the nape hair.
I never thought about head size either (geez this topic really took weird turns didn't it?) since I guess I have a normal size head. I don't know what size my head is, never was in band.
You have taken a lot of time and thought to measure your hair. I think your way is better for you since you will see progress each month. That's the whole idea anyway... to be able to chart your own progress in the journey.
Glad to know how you do it, thanks Kitty! :)
Carolyn February 21st, 2003, 12:08 PM It's pretty accurate for me to measure from the roots. My hair is always parted the same way, and always falls that way no matter how I have it up. (I always measure it from the same begining)

Hi Kitty, I understand not wanting to measure your whole head. The deal with the hairline and back measurement is it's consistant. The front hairline doesn't move. What I do is record both measurements in my hair journal. My hairline and back is 29" and my strands with a center part are 24". I also record a bangs at center front measurement each month. It's really just a way for us each to chart our personal progress. If you like the center part and down measurement then measure that way. Just do it the same way each month so you can see your growth. All that long hair you are growing! :D
