View Full Version : Home Pregnancy Tests (rant warning)
Heidi August 24th, 2004, 05:49 AM Ack...I'm wondering if my symptoms are all in my mind. I've taken three home pregnancy tests in the last week, and all came out negative. My period was due yesterday and I've had some light spotting for the last five days. My breasts are sore and feel swollen. I get waves of nausea (ironically in the afternoons). Days of unexplainable fatigue and a sore back.
This is so frustrating! I mean the silly things are designed to do one simple thing; they are overpackaged and overpriced and wasteful. The one that Mr. Heidi brought home was even digital for Pete's sake, so that if a person has trouble making out the difference between one line and two lines, the silly thing actually reads the results in words (naturally, when you eject the sensor end, sure enough, there are the little lines).
And here I am ranting about it when it's my own fault for buying one when I should have just gone to the Dr. or heck, even the Health Services on Campus and gotten one for free.
>sigh< I was really hoping that the little display would read "pregnant" this morning and that I'd be making a much happier post. :flower:

I am so sorry you are having trouble with the tests but showing all the symptoms. I would say give it another week and then get a free test. If it is still negative, but you have not started, I would see a doctor - there could be another problem. HOWEVER, from my understanding - the pregnancy tests are designed to read one hormone in your 'sample'. If the level is above X (whatever that is) it will read positive. Some women never get above X and can still be pregnant. To find out you would still need to see a doctor and probably a blood test.
Good Luck and HTH

sol August 24th, 2004, 06:40 AM Heidi, I had the same exact problem when I was taking pregnancy tests. I KNEW I was PG, but I kept getting negative tests. Just know this, it's very possible to get a false negative...
I finally broke down and just went to the Dr and had my blood drawn. There's no questions then...they'll be able to tell right away 100% and earlier than a HPT if they take blood. If that's not an option, wait another week and take the test again. Sometimes your HCG levels don't spike until you're pretty PG.
I hope you have a http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/pos.gif very very soon.

Heidi August 24th, 2004, 02:06 PM Thanks for the support guys! And of course, thanks for listening to the rant. Big hugs!
I'm still feeling pretty certain about it, so I'll just wait until the end of the week (by which time, my period will be a week late) and make an appointment to tour my birthing center of choice and get officially tested.
Heidi August 25th, 2004, 08:46 AM Well, I started bleeding heavily this morning (hope this isn't too TMI for this board) and as certain as I was that I was pregnant, I'm also just as certain that I'm miscarrying. :-(
Requesting more fertility vibes for next month, please!
