'The Scream' has just been stolen (again). Not hair related, but this question is.

I wondered - if you could obtain (legally, I hope) any famous painting (or other piece of art) showing lovely hair, which would it be and why?

I would choose Botticelli's 'Birth of Venus'. Venus has incredibly beautiful hair, as well as a pefect body in a perfect setting.

Here's a link:

Which would you choose?

Thanks for those two other paintings. I enjoyed looking at them. I'm surprised that there aren't more people on this board wh wanted to make a choice! I'll have to cancel the Long Hair art gallery project!

I think I would want one of the ”Sissi” paintings by Xavier Winterhalter

Or, this one:

Great painting, but I like the Sissi-myth better and would be more interesting to have on my wall

I couldn't possibly pick one. I was always partial to Mucha's figures though. I love art nouveau, but I enjoy most everything so it's impossible to decide.

Lets see if I can't find some examples... ah heres one

I think Waterhouse wins! He has so many great paintings of women with long hair. I like "Miranda and the Tempest," "The Mermaid," "Windflowers," and "The Siren." I especially like, "The Soul of The Rose." Her hair is swept up, and I wish I could do my hair like that!

I've seen the Birth of Venus at the Uffizi, but I'd probably prefer to own to Scream... :silly:

As for long hair pictures, has anyone mentioned Mucha? ;)

Ooh..fun thread...I was just about to say Waterhouse too Eowyn! Here is one I like by him(it seems that all the ladies in this picture have beautiful hair):

I can't pick one. There are too many. I began making a hair-related album at Art Magick a long time ago. http://www.art-albums.com/albums/detail.aspx?album=aebaeef7-7534-44e5-998a-06d52a91cb55

I'm another Mucha fan and have been since I was seventeen and stumbled across a sort of planter thingie with an image of "La Dame aux Camelias" at a garage sale. I didn't know who Mucha was was but it was gorgeous and I had to have it. Because it was my first Mucha exposure, it's probably my favorite of his pictures.
