SON SAYS: Daddy, how was I born?

DAD SAYS: Ah, well, my son, one day you will need to find out anyway! Mom and Dad got together in a chat room on MSN. Dad set up a date via e-mail with your mom and we met at a cybercafe.

We sneaked into a secluded room, and then your mother downloaded from dad's memory stick. As soon as dad was ready for an upload, it was discovered that neither one of us had used a firewall. Since it was too late to hit the delete button, nine months later the blessed little virus appeared.

And that's the story.

The scary thing is that these days, the child is more likely than the adults to know what all of that computer stuff means.

This one had me spitting coffee on my computer screen. Too funny. Heck in our case, dd will have a very warped sense of how babies are conceived. DD was conceived by IVF. We have a picture of the clinic, her embryo "report card", and her dish in her keepsake box. We also have a ton of pictures and documents in her photo album.

that is too cool (and great that the IVF worked for you guys :rockerdud ). she's going to treasure the collection. the petrie dish is gonna mean more to her than a whole china collection ...

I agree, very cool. There's a lovely Jackie Kay poem called "Mummy and Donor and Deirdre" about a lesbian couple with a son just old enough for the other kids at school to be asking questions, which of course he's fielding impressively - the news to him is that it's a taboo subject, he's happily rattling off "well, some mummies make babies this way, and some mummies do it this way instead...I have a mummy and a donor and a Deirdre" (including explaining basic IVF), and it's very sweet, then the other kid goes home and repeats it and the first pair of parents are left wondering what on earth they should do. They sort it out fairly well in the end. Babies are created in all sorts of ways these days!

Wow...that is incredible. I tell you, I used to go on a fertility site and the idea of "just getting in the backseat and winding up pregnant" idea is so untrue for about 80% of the population! For those who were not at the point of IVF, EVERY tip and trick was tried...from Robitussin to increase the proper fluids, to charting, to vitamins for the husband...trust me...if there were any such thing as a "regular" way to conceive babies, I haven't seen it so far... Congratulations on your sweet daughter.
