I'm a clothing fiend, I just love shopping and hunting for unique bargains. I want to make a trip to the Fashion District (also known as the Garment District) in L.A. (About an 1.5 hr drive for me) From the website description http://www.fashiondistrict.org/ it sounds huge, with tons of womens clothes and accessories at wholesale prices.
If you've ever been, was it worth it or just a bunch of junk?

I've never been, but I've heard it's worth the trip! Especially for fabric.
If you want company, I'll gladly get lost in the Fashion District with you!

Yes! Certainly worth the trip....well, that's easy for me to say, I live in LA. Like Heidi says, it's particularly good for fabric.
Infact all the LA "districts" are great. DH bought my engagement ring in the Jewelry District and an amazing price.

I've never been there and I have no idea why that is. I should totally go!

Let's pick a date (a few months down the road so I can stock up the savings account)! Cat, when were you planning on going?

I've been down there. My school was within walking distance from it (yes, my school was in a crappy area). I practically lived in the fabric district while attending FIDM. I've never really bothered with the garment district besides a few trips to pick up stuff for the place I was interning at.
The Fabric district is pretty nice though. Suuuper cheep fabrics. It's usually best if you go down on Mondays, right when the shops open. Many of the owners tend to believe its bad luck to let the first customer out without a purchace so they'll go super low on the prices. You do have to be careful with what you buy though, espically with fabric. If your not you may end up with a huge flaw right smack in the middle of all of the yardage. They've got some neat fabrics though, but after awhile it starts becoming a repeat of what you saw in the last store.
I wouldn't want to go down to that area alone. Maybe Im to cautious but it tends to creep me out, even after all of these years.

Huh, been to the fabic district alone several times...never had a problem, but it is a bit shadey. I also recommend a Monday if you can do it, mostly because it is SO busy on the weekends.

I wouldn't want to be there alone at night but I'm okay with meeting a group during the day. I feel like I am perpetually broke and I have a weird schedule so I would hate to pick a date, then have to back out later but if a group organizes, I'm up for it. I'd only be able to do it on a weekend, though.
