View Full Version : Sex offender in my hood? Need free website...
Accolady July 7th, 2004, 03:39 PM Long story short, I believe there is a possible perv
in my neighborhood, and he does not use his legally given
name. Since I know the family members and two of them
have reported previous childhood offenses, there is not
much doubt in my mind that he may very well have
been charged with something at some point in his life,
and now he's living three houses down from me!
I found an online thing that states there is one registered
sex offender living in my zip code, but they want $19.95 to
give his or her name.
Twenty bucks to find out if a freak is in my neighborhood???
Is there a free internet site out there which will give me
instant results with names?
Many thanks for your help.
Accolady July 7th, 2004, 03:42 PM Whoops, never mind, I found it.
At the bottom of this link I found all of the
states, too!

LisaJaney July 7th, 2004, 04:13 PM Good deal, KM! I was going to say that many states force them to register with the local law-enforcement authorities (don't they?) and you could probably get the info from the Police Station at no charge......
Yikes! Hope he's not what you suspect!

Same here! That's SCARY!
angelic July 8th, 2004, 12:12 AM If I did a search online and discovered that there was one sex offender that had the same zip code (or postal code for us Canadians) as me, I would be more than willing to fork out twenty bucks to find out the name.
Better safe than sorry

rock chip July 8th, 2004, 01:37 PM My sister did a search a while back, and found out the guy that lives three doors down from her and my dad is a convicted sex offender, and the victim was under 18. There's lots of little kids running around in their neighborhood, too.
I did a search on my neighborhood... two sex offenders. They're both 1-2 miles away. *shudder*
PurpleCow July 8th, 2004, 02:01 PM Thank you for posting that website. Even though I don't have children it's still a good resource to have. I did a search on my zip code for any type of sex offender. It came back with 42 names. I suddenly feel ill.
Azhure July 11th, 2004, 09:20 AM There are 252 sex offenders in my parish alone!!! That is sooo pathetic! I just had to go down the list and look at what some of them are convicted of. Most were Carnal knowledge of a juvenile. But some were crimes against nature. I wonder what that means?
Some of them looked like skeezy old men who DEFINITELY looked like child molesters. But some of them were young good looking guys, that you wouldn't necessarily suspect of doing that kind of thing.
And there were actually a few women too!
Speedqueen July 12th, 2004, 05:02 AM Angela,
Where did you find it on line. I did a quick search but couldnt find much besides the proposed legislation. I'm in Ottawa. Thanks

Alun July 12th, 2004, 06:46 PM We did a search ourselves. Whilst we found no-one very near to us, we were alarmed to find a child sex offender listed two doors away from some very good friends of ours, who BTW have two young daughters. They had just moved into the house the week before.
Now, as it turns out, he doesn't actually live there, although he does visit. He gave his parents address when he registered, and he isn't registered at the place where he does actually live! We don't know where he really lives, and his parents aren't telling. This is apparently a common problem.
Another probem seems to be that they don't distinguish between those who just had a slightly too young girlfriend (not that I'm condoning thatl) and OTOH those who are a serious danger to younger children. Still, it's a lot better than not having any way to trace these people. It's undeniably progress.

I think this is important. From what I understand if someone is 19 and has consensual sex with their 17 year old girlfriend/boyfriend they can get put on that list. I really wish that they'd distinguish between this kind of thing and what I consider real child abuse (non-consensual or anything before puberty). I always get different answers for the age of consent, too. It depends on the state and is from 14-18 in the US, and I understand it's 14 in Canada and different ages throughout Europe and the rest of the world. (http://www.xent.com/april00/0391.html , http://www.webistry.net/jan/consent.html)
Anyway, it is good to be able to track these scary people - my dad works with sex offenders (he's a psychologist) and the recidivism rate is crazy high for the ones that abuse pre-puberty children. It seems that for the often there is something wrong with the brain and the offender cannot be helped much with counseling.

Dulci July 14th, 2004, 08:10 AM Ewww. There are 37 registered in my zipcode, and 6 of them live on Chestnut Street. I know now to avoid Chestnut Street!

That makes me wonder if they know each other or if it's just some bizarre conicidence that they ended up on the same street.
Dulci July 14th, 2004, 10:37 AM I wondered that myself PurpleCow, isn't that odd?
Teacherbear July 14th, 2004, 02:08 PM I noticed clusters of sex offenders in certain neighborhoods when I looked at a map. They seemed to live within a few blocks of one another.

As far as I know, there is no information available to the public about sex offenders in Canada.
I was just stating that paying twenty dollars would be worth it if I knew that there was a sex offender that shared the same postal code as myself.
Of course a free search is much better, but I would be alarmed to know that a person with a record such as that lived in my neighbourhood. I don't think I would rest until I knew that person's name!
Sorry for any confusion. I did a search online myself and came up with the same info that you did.
Take care,
Angela

There might be a halfway house on that street. Also, I noticed on that site that they will list all of the aliases with street addresses so it appears that there are more than one person, but really it is just one person with umpteen aliases.
( yes, doesn't that sound really intelligent? :silly: Forgive me, I just mowed grass in 100 degree heat :dizzy: )

or a cheap apartment building, or lots of cheap rentals.
Dulci July 18th, 2004, 07:38 AM Well, I made it a point to drive down Chestnut Street this weekend, and what it looks like is rental houses along the railroad track. I didn't memorize any of the house numbers from the website, but I remember there was one on like the 300 block, the 600 block, the 800 block, the 1100 block etc. They were all spread out along the street...
dancingbarefoot July 18th, 2004, 03:58 PM What a timely post! I've just found out from a cousin (who's a cop in my city) that one of my neighbors is a convicted sex offender. Ew!
These sites should come in handy looking for more info. I guess I thought that Alaska required that neighbors be informed before child molesters moved into a neighborhood, but it appears that I'm wrong.
Speedqueen July 18th, 2004, 05:52 PM OOOhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I missed the "If" before the "I"
Hmm. Need more Reactin, sinuses are putting wayy too much pressure on my coconut.
Thanks Chickie

Repunzlnée September 30th, 2004, 07:34 AM On Dateline this week they set up an expose/sting operation.
They taped a bunch of guys that showed up (expecting sex w/ young girls) in just a couple hours.... after biting the bait in internet chatrooms. They said there are so many crawling around in the chats preying on little girls that they hardly make a dent.
Check out http://www.perverted-justice.com
These guys get busted complete w/ photo...address.....phone...
