Hello everybody
I am currently BF my 3 month old baby. I am still taking the prenatals, but I also would like to take
Ultra Nourishair and EPO.
Does anyone know if is safe to take these while BF? I don't want to affect mysupply and I was wondering.
Thanks in advance :)

I suggest asking your doctor or even the pharmacist at your pharmarcy.

That's what I would suggest. I just waited until I was done breastfeeding before adding any extra vitamins, but a doctor would know.

Hey!

Great to see another Breastfeeding Mom! I dont know whats in Ultra Nurishair, BUT I have taken all kinds of Hair Vitamins and never had a problem with supply. I suggest going to http://www.breastfeeding.com They have a forum there where you can get a great amount of support and terrific advice. Also they have a listing of Lactation Consultants from all over the country. Ive called on a couple of them when I got awful advice from so called Nurses, Like to stop feeding when my son was sick with a virus.... (As you may know breastmilk has antibodies that fight illnesses,EVEN if they throw it all up)

Anyways...Ill stop rambling now:)

Make sure the Doctor is Breastfeeding Friendly Doctor... Doctors and Nurses are only required to do a tiny bit of study in the areas of Human Lactation and sometimes the info they have is seriously out of date. Seek out a Lactation Consultant, That takes years to become by itself, and about 3 to 4 as a Nurse. Not to mention they must keep there knowledge up and resit the exam to be Certified, so they will be able to give you the best up to date info
Go to http://www.breastfeeding.com

Hope that helps:)

Thanks for the replies :)
And Laurie I loved that site! Thanks so much! I had so many questions answered there. It's ashamed but we don't get the support needed while BF. My baby is a premie, he is doing very good now and I plan on BF as long as I can.
I take my prenatals but wanted to get some hair vitamins, I will def ask my dr to make sure but I don't think it should be a problem. Thanks for sharing that link, I needed some encouragement :)

Dear Lily,

Im so glad you enjoyed that site! Believe me I know how discouraging it can get at times...you can see some of my more desperate posts on Breastfeeding.Com I post as Bandia there as well. I think if you search my number is 3195...but Im not 100% on that. You say you want to Breastfeed as long as you can...just remember the longer you do it, the less they do it toward the time they stop and the easier it gets:) When I first told my inlaws that I would be breastfeeding my son past a year they all thought it would be like it was when he was just home from the hospital, every 3 hours or so.... by the time he was a year old it was still through the night a bit then in the morning, afternoon and evening before bedtime... and if we were busy doing something in the day he wouldnt be interested in his 'num num'...lol now adays its more like morning and evening. If like last week he had an earache that required antibiotics, he fed moer often, but thats natural, they crave the antibodies in the breastmilk when they are ill. Forgive me if I am rambling...Breastfeeding/human lactation has become such a passion of mine...(Im even considering becoming a Lactation Consultant myself) the stuff is so amazing and its wonderful to find out these bouncy things on the front of our bodies are more than just eye candy for the men people....lol

Blessings!
Laurie

you are right!
A lot of people make funny comments and all. I had a coworker that said she won't bf cause she didn't want her breast to be saggy! Other just didn'twant to go through the problem like they call it.
I am the only person that exclusively bf!
I go back to work in August, so then I plan to pump during the day and I rpray I can make it !
and no u aren't rambling I love talking about bf too. :)
I even printed out a free sheet in bf.com about the benefits of bf, sso I can read it over and over when I feel like stopping/
Thanks!

Ask La Leche League. Seriously, unless I'd known a doc for years & years and seen her demonstrate a commitment to facilitating breastfeeding ... I would trust LLL to know more about it. Vitamins, medications, whatever. Doctors can be incredibly ignorant, and worse, not bother to actually find out, just inform you that you shouldn't take something "to be on the safe side".

I'm taking Nourishair, FWIW, and a prenatal and scads of other supplements while BF my DD. LLL & midwives approved wholeheartedly. I have more energy too!
