Dark hair Herbs

~Quince juice and privet

~Gallnuts (1st dried in oil, then rubbed in salt, then added to crushed pomegranate flower and henna.)

~Walnut shells- Walnut shells make another harmless dye which progressively adds color to the hair. Before the nuts are ripe, crush the green outer shells in a mortar and cover with water. Add a touch of table salt. Let stand 3 days. Now add 3 cups of boiling water and simmer 5 hours, always making sure the evaporated water is replaced. Express the dark liquid from the shells by means of a press or by twisting the shells in a cloth. Replace separated liquid in pot again and now reduce to a quarter of it's volume. Use on clean shampooed hair. At first it will produce a somewhat yellowish effect, but it will finally give the hair a good deep black color.

~Catechu

~Logwood

~Brazilwood

~Quebrancho

~Sandalwood (didn't know this one wood darken hair! )

~Elderberries

Thanks for adding on!

LOL, I was trying to find some really unusual ones that people may not have heard of. Got them from the book "The complete herbal guide to natural health and beauty".

I HAVE to ask: What is moon length hair? Sounds like something I might want to aspire to as well.... ;) That's one BIG bun!

Hmm..sandalwood powder, I'll have to try that!

Just as a side note, sandalwood eo which I bought a few weeks ago added to my conditioner made my hair smell wonderful! I did that three days ago and my hair still has the scent even after washing three times since then.

So for those that are looking for a nice scent that lingers, sandalwood really lasts.

Sandalwood powder... Sandalwood eo... Anne, are you the one who got a bunch of people together to buy Sandalwood combs? I remember somebody was doing this because the wood was supposed to be so fragrant and nice...

This is very interesting, thanks for the info. I may have to try the walnut thing sometime.

Hollie - these would be herbs to use externally, as a herbal rinse.

Moon-length hair is kinda mystical.
It's hair where each strand that had been cut/trimmed in the past, has been shed from the scalp.
The new virgin hair that arises from the follicle is not ever cut. It retains it's natural taper at the end. This hair is permitted to live it's full life without mutilation be cutting.
Now, my hair is progressively turning white. I love it.
On a moonlit night, when I'm standing with my back to the moon, the white hairs glow and shine. The hair that has it's natural taper dissappears into the moonlight - you can't see it's end-point.
For all I know it has reached to the moon.......

That is MOON-LENGTH HAIR!!!!

OK- I'm a nutter. But you get the idea.

LOL - that is too cool, thanks for the explanation :D
I'm a fashoin victim in a sense that I like a "tidy" hemline on my hair - but your description sure sounds lovely ... that's almost a poem just the way you wrote it!
