[Group Activity] ~ The Good Magazine Rack ~

I also posted this at the Loom in this thread

This is a project for people who like to read magazines. Whether you subscribe to magazines or just occasionally look through one you can participate. Even if you don't really like magazines we will have activities that you may enjoy. These can be Fashion Magazines, Womens' Mags, Bridal Mags, and also some others that might happen to have something nice in it.

Here are some of the acitivities for this project:
(Note: all you do is post the page numbers of these items, not the actual item. See below)

~ Pictures of Nice or Pretty Hair ~ Long, Medium, or Short. These can be in articles or advertisements. In other words lets point out the nice hair pictures that even if they are short haircuts are pretty.

~ Good Articles ~ This can be anything Hair or Beauty related. For example, I've seen some good updo instructions in some magazines before.

~ Other Positive Features ~ Example, I had a magazine one time that had pictures of different ponytails and ponytail holders. Even though it was like an advertisement, they looked pretty.

~ Pretty Clothes ~ While I was looking through one of my new ones for pictures of nice hair I noticed that some of the dresses were very pretty so we could mention nice clothes too. Especially if you are looking at bridal mags and see nice dresses.

Before we get started perhaps we should do a little poll. Since Polls only have 10 choices this will have to be a write in poll. Just tell us what magazines you regularly read or subscribe to. You don't have to go into detail about whether or not you like or dislike the magazine unless of course you have something positive to say about it :) Also let us know if the version of your magazine is for a certain country. Since they are different.

Please try to keep this positive and related to beauty or hair or nice clothes. If you want to rant about something in a magazine or discuss other articles such as gossip or relationships please use another thread. This thread is meant to be fun to participate in. While it would be nice to keep things simplified and only include fashion or beauty magazines, I don't think we would mind an occasional mention of something nice in another magazine. Please no Adult X-rated type mags. I know some beauty magazines do cross the line once in awhile but I think you know what I mean, no Playboys, etc. Again you can always make another thread for that. ;)

Since this project may take a while to get going please feel free to look through your old magazines if you have any and if you see something good please let us know about it. Some of us may have those already. I have several magazines from 97 - 00 so I'll be looking through mine.

Note: Unless you have permission from the magazine, please don't post photos or articles from the magazine to this thread. If you find a link to the item on their web site you can post it but otherwise lets keep it to page numbers. This will help it to be a group activity because if you really want to see something you'll just have to get the magazine. I understand that not all pages are numbered so try to make your best guess.

Here's an extra idea for those who get the same magazines as someone else regularly, you could do a version of the "Name That Tune" thread where you post a page number of something nice and then someone who has that same magazine can look it up, tell you what it is, and if they are right they can then post a page number of their own.

Your ideas are welcome too. This is not meant to be "My" project it's meant to be "Our" project or activity.

So Let's recap,

Positive things, Good Articles, Nice Pictures.
Please post the magazines you like with their country if needed.
Try to stay appropriate for all ages.

Oh and Enjoy, this is supposed to be fun 8)

Marie Claire (USA) - May 04 - Nice Hair Pictures

Here is a short list of just some of the page numbers that I jotted down that had hair that looked pretty or at least nice.

I'm gonna try not to describe them too much because the point is for you all to look in your own magazine and see for yourself.

When I say BSL I mean somewhere at least near BSL because some may not quite be there or the picture may make it hard to tell. I did count off these page numbers but since they are not numbered consider them all approximates and do your best to find them ;) Also some of these advertisements are in more than one magazine so you might be able to find them in your magazine too. If you need more of an explanation to help you find them let me know.

Liz Claiborne Ad - Blonde with BS hair - Page 33

Mischa Barton (O.C. on TV) - Light Brown with BS hair - Pages 34 & 44 and also possibly her on 38 & 39

Jennifer Garner - Pictures throughout the 40's pages. Her hair is shoulder length or just below.

101 Ideas article Model - Page 174 and the next few pages. But 174 is the one of her I like the most of her pictures. Hair is wavy and around BS.

These are just a few of the ones I actually picked out. :)

InStyle (USA) - April 04 - Nice Hair Pictures

Matrix ad - page 47 Nice curls

Lord & Taylor ad - page 67 Her hair looks like its at least near BS but it's behind her back so not sure. Pretty lady in a white dress with blue and yellow butterflies.

Anne Taylor Loft ad - Blonde hair in a pretty pink flower dress. Hair is just below shoulders with layers. Approx page 94

EasyStraight ad - Page 118 nice below shoulder length hair with slight wave in it.

Liv Tyler - Page 136 & 142 from Oscars, I think her hair was very pretty that night. You don't see that style worn like that with those glasses too often.

Tenth Anniversary - Page 211 Blonde with almost BS layered waves, or at least I think they are layered.

Millergirl / Nichole Miller ad - Page 251 Girl with very pretty braid.

Once again I did leave some out so I don't use them all up :)

Thanks, now I'll have to go get that one if it's still in stores. :)

Thanks to Hairbrain and Magpiedee also. I might go grab an Allure while I'm out, and if I can find Oxygen I'll get one of those too.

The one I have says June 04, its a light blue color cover and the model on the cover is wearing a yellow swimsuit.

I bought the following magazines.

Jane - April 04
Allure - April 04
Oxygen - June 04
Seventeen - May 04 (The cover said it was a hair issue, but it actually features LOL makeovers so this may not be something to pick up.)

Now I just need to look through them all to see if they have anything good.

Yep those are good :)

I'll give a few real quick,

On page 12, the editor has a nice Shoulder length layered cut. It looks good on her.

Page 67 - nice updo

Page 122 - Diet Tech ad nice curls below shoulder.

I like the model's hair in the article starting on page 126 but it's hard to see it. It looks like below chin layers. Model's name is Jane Lemberg.

Ok I did skip over some and I didn't flip all the way to the end so there should be plenty for you to pick from if you like any more. :)

I tried to and so far this is what I've found but I don't see a really long hair picture yet.

Those are some pretty pictures on 138, 140. Her hair has nice waves. The picture on 142 is nice too but it needs to be a bit brighter.

That Dove ad is pretty cool too. For anyone who doesn't have this issue of Jane you can also find this ad in the May issue of Marie Claire on page 367. I have to get a better comb before I try that with my hair.

Here's my picks from what was left ;)

The article on page 64 on Coloring at home is a nice article from a Pro that doesn't sound all preachy so I give it a

The back cover Calvin Klein ad - You can't see exactly how long her hair is but it is below shoulders and it looks good.

There is a Garnier Fructis ad on page 19 (near the contents page) that is in my other magazines too. As soon as I find it in the others again I'll edit the page numbers in. I was holding off posting about it but since it's similar to the Dove ad I figured now would be a good time to mention it.

There is a Loreal Sublime Bronze ad on page 24. The model's name is Laetitia Casta. She has at least bsl wavey hair.

I agree with the opinion :)

Hey, I just checked and they have her picture from the mag on the Loreal site

http://www.lorealparisusa.com/skincare/products/sublime/sublime_frame.asp

But its a moving animation so you see her head then the rest of her body back and forth. But for those who don't have the magazine, it is the same picture :)

I still have not written down the page numbers from the May 04 "In Style" US Edition, but I just wanted to say that I'm noticing a lot of longer haired pictures in the advertisements.

I've looked about halfway through the issue so far and lots of the advertisements are showing hair that is below the shoulders if not BSL or longer. I think that's pretty cool.

So that means that I will be posting some page numbers soon. :)

My fav magazine is In Style. It gives pretty good beauty and hair tips.
I like it that's more celebrity fashion and entertainment.

I agree with that. I've only gotten 2 issues so far but they both have been large issues and it's not often you get big magazines for what they charge nowadays.

For someone like me who doesn't do as much reading it's a very nice magazine because they do have hair articles but they don't have all that gossip stuff that I really don't care for (If it does have that I missed it ;) ). I'm not into the whole worst dressed stuff and who is seeing who after breaking up with the hunk.

I also enjoy seeing nice dresses that aren't always runway stuff. Like nice summer dresses with flowers or butterflies or just one color.

I think I bought In Style last month because you recommended it Betty :)
Yup I just checked the Marie Claire thread and it was you who said

I used to have a subscription to Allure a few years ago. I wanted hair and make up tips. I became disapointed and didn't resubscribe.

The magazine I really like is InStyle. Some pretty good tips for hair, make up and clothes. Pretty long hair friendly too

so it was your recommendation. :rockerdud

I'm glad I was able to go shopping in time to get not only April's issue but also May's since at the time most mags had their May issues in stores.

Thanks Betty, it really is a nice magazine.

I just wanted to make a suggestion here. Instead of posting a huge massive thread that people need to wade through, why don't you ask people to pm you with their favourite photos (with links) and take your own favourite photos (with links) and then compile one single list that you can edit and add on to?

I am suggesting this because of the fact that the list so far is too massive and exhaustive to read through, and it is only two pages long :)!

I for one don't buy a lot of magazines, and posting a page number without a link to the photo is useless to me.

I know that for myself, if you made one single list (instead of twenty pages of photos) with links and simple descriptions of the hair (e.g. waist length, or blonde hair), I would be more willing to click on the link of hair that I may find appealing.

IMHO, this list is waay too long for me to even want to look at what links are given...I feel overwhelmed. If one doesn't purchase the magazine, what point is it to post it online without a link?

Just a suggestion, and no offense intended,
Take care,
Angela

No offense taken. :)
I meant to respond to this way back then but some other stuff happened and I got sidetracked. I apologize.

With the recent discussions of magazines I figured now would be a good time to respond.

Unfortunately the only way to do this activity was to have people look through the actual magazine and post pages. Steph doesn't like threads that have a lot of links to other sites (in one thread). She has told me so and I respect her wishes and understand why. I did post a few in this thread, before Steph talked to me.

I do see how my multiple posts to this thread did clog it up. I have since tried not to do that in other threads.

Back when I started this thread I sent a few emails to some magazines asking about their policies regarding people who scan pictures from them and post them online but I didn't get replies. Had I been given permission to do so I could have scanned those pictures and showed them here. But I doubt they would have said yes anyway. I was just asking to be sure. I've seen scans of pages all over the web but I doubt those people asked permission.

So I can't post links and I can't post the pictures so that only leaves page numbers.
If anyone is interested in talking about these pages by PM instead of in the thread I wouldn't mind that. Just let me know.

Just to give an update,

I currently have subscriptions to the following

Redbook (Since Oct)
Glamour (Since Aug)

I also have another site that can discuss this topic if anyone wishes to do so there instead. I won't post the link however so if anyone wishes to see it you can request the link by PM.

Thanks for the good ideas Angelic. :)
