View Full Version : Making barettes??

I was looking at www.barettebaron.com and had a really cool idea...

We're having to cut down an ash tree in my yard and I was thinking I could make my own wood barettes! I also thought that mesquite wood would (heh, pun) look very nice.
Has anyone ever done this? I should think it'd be fairly simple (famous last words).

Any ideas would be great!

One of my talented friends makes her own hairsticks, just picks up a stick from the yard ((usually pecan) and starts whittling. After she scrapes all the bark off, she makes a point on the end and sands like crazy 'til it's smooth enough. I don't see why that wouldn't work with ash.

I do have a hairstick made of mesquite that DH bought me last weekend at a woodworking/mesquite show. It is really pretty, shows up well in my blonde/silver hair.
