View Full Version : Re-Introduce Yourself Here Please
purplebubba April 11th, 2004, 08:59 PM I decided to make this thread so those of us who have been around for a long time can put our introductions here so new people can find out about us.
If you've recently joined you can post your intro too. I just want to try to get these all in one thread if possible.
I'm going to put the link to this thread in a FAQ thread on How To Introduce Yourself.
Here is the thread link
How To Introduce Yourself
http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=10004
My Intro:
I'm Robert / PurpleBubba from Michigan. I went to cosmetology school in 2000-01 for 800 of my state's 1500 hours. I am currently seeking to be an apprentice in a salon to complete my training and get my license. I want to become a stylist who not only listens to their clients but also treats them with respect and care.
I have been visiting hair care boards since 2000 and have known a lot of the people here a long time. I consider everyone here like family. :)
Edited to Add: My parents kept my hair ear length and above most of my childhood. In High School I went a few years of growing to almost shoulder length but each year in June I either cut my own hair (10th grade) or Mom said she would trim it and hacked it (11th grade). In April of 1994 (12th grade) my hair was back around 8 inches long and I had just turned 18 so I went on my own to a salon and had my first ever chosen haircut. I had my hair cut to about 3 inches long with all kinds of blending and feathering so it wouldn't look like it was freshly cut. Even though it was obvious going from 8 to 3 inches. I then grew my hair out without a trim or cut until late 1997 when I went to a salon, again on my own and had a trim. I wanted to only lose a little bit of length but after discussing it with the stylist we decided to cut more than 3 inches to even up my ends. I then got regular trims every 6 weeks to 3 months until May of 2001 (trimmed in cos school by student to give her a grade). I then got in another lazy mode after leaving school and went until March 26th of this year without a trim or cut. I trimmed my hair using Feye's slight U instructions and I trimmed about .5 inches overall with just a few pieces being 1-2 inches long from the V tip.
I consider LHC to be my family. I consider everyone here a sister or brother and I try to treat everyone as such. LHC broke me out of my latest "shell" and because of that I'm getting my life back on track. I'm also really loving my hair for the first time in my life and not just having hair. I used to give a lot of advice and not take my own. I'm glad that has changed and I'm glad I've taken some other's advice as well.
BigChiefHoho April 12th, 2004, 04:54 AM Hello! I'm BigChiefHoho (no real name for me yet; I'm shy ;))! I'm a college student (just ending my sophomore year) in central Pennsylvania, majoring in political science, economics, and German. I read incessantly and listen to lots and lots of music. I like animals. I have a wonderful family and a great boyfriend. The End.
LisaJaney April 12th, 2004, 05:17 AM I'm LisaJaney, a 40yo most-times housewife with three wonderful sons (aged 17, 15 and 15) and a fabulous husband, and I adore them all (who wouldn't!). We (hubby, kids and I) own a pizza-restaurant franchise and earn our living that way. I homeschooled the boys up til this past year, and now they attend public highschool, and swim on that swimteam, as well as competing year-round on a USS (swim)team. (C'mon Scholarships! For swimming AND academics!)
I have lots of free-range chickens who are almost all named and will eat from my hand and allow hugging (some just won't allow the hugging, but they WILL eat from my hand and come RUNNING when I go outside) and two dogs and two outdoor-cats (spayed, both, and excellent mousers) and I am generally a goofball with a good heart. I love to tell funny stories that have happened in my life, and do so with abandon.......
spiritseeker April 12th, 2004, 05:34 AM My name is Amanda and I live in a suburb of Chicago. I'm a full time chiropractic student and I live with my fiance and our two cats. I hope to move to Oregon when I graduate and start a wholistic health care clinic. I'm very interested in natural healing. I've been a vegan since last August and it's a very important part of my life. I respect and love all living things to the best of my ability. I just recently became a Unitarian Universalist.
So yea, hair. hehe. I have very short hair right now because I'm growing out from a pixie. My only real goal is to grow my hair out healthy and give it a shot at being long. My hair has never been past my shoulders.
Nice to "meet" you all!
Heidi April 12th, 2004, 05:35 AM Hi, my name is Heidi and I'm an LHCaholic. I've been here just over a year. I love you LHC folks more than some of my own family members ;) . In fact, due to SOME threads, I know you better than I do some of my own family members.
I'm in Southern California, newly married  to a handsome and witty geek. By day, I'm a mild-mannered data pusher at a Community College. By night, I'm a wild, raving seamstress with too many craft hobbies (it's 7:30am here, and I'm dying fabric). My passions are books, fabric, mythology and folklore, gardening...the list is endless.
Welcome to the newbies! :cookie:
magpiedee April 12th, 2004, 05:50 AM I'm Delilah, aka. magpiedee. 26, married, living in Atlanta. I have had long hair almost all of my life, but it's never looked so good as it has since I found the LHC. I am starting my own mural and decorative painting business while telecommuting part time in advertising. My main joys in life are riding my horse, creating artwork, bellydancing, reading and reveling in beauty products, especially Lush and Black Phoenix Alchemy Labs.
LHC has also became nearly a second family for me, and I am grateful to all the beautiful souls who share their wisdom, experience and talents with us every day.
Snow White April 12th, 2004, 05:56 AM I'm Natalie from the middle if Illinois, and I live here with my husband and new son. I'm a stay at home mom but taught school for two years. I enjoy reading, drawing, painting, knitting, genealogy. I've been growing my hair basically since 1998 and I love these boards. :smooch: (I've not used that one yet!)
terri April 12th, 2004, 06:21 AM Hi, I am Terri. I am obsessed with my hair, crafting and gardening, and dare I say it, eBay. I also write. I was educated as a lawyer, but prefer work in the quasi-legal field of contract management. I used to be a landscaper, designer and arborist. I have 4 kids ages 22 to 6. I love a good debate. :boxer: I've been married for 24 years. I'm a wanna be chicken and horse person "again" (have had both in the past). I have been with this group in various forums for 2-3 years. I have wavy to curly hair that is graying. This is my main long hair board-although I occassionally lurk on others. I love these boards too. :smooch:
Brenda April 12th, 2004, 06:23 AM Hi, I'm Brenda and I live in Northeastern Vermont, where I'm a home-schooling mom, part-time deli wench, assistant circus arts teacher, and I make jewelry and teach lampwork bead making.
I have 2 boys, 2 dogs, 6 cats and 4 chickens.
I, umm, have a lot of hobbies, many of which I've acquired through my involvement with the Society for Creative Anachronism (medieval re-creation/reenactment).
I've been involved with the long hair community on the internet, and its discussion boards since about '98.
SagittarianTiger April 12th, 2004, 07:08 AM :waving: I'm SagittarianTiger... or Saji as most everyone calls me around here .
I am 23 as I write this. I will have been an LHC addict for a year on May 1st 2004. I am most notable for starting the now infamous mental thread :wannabe:
I have 3 cats and no kids yet. Um.. I adore animals of all kinds, love to read, crochet, and listen to music. I have a livejournal..thanks to Hollie..and am addicted to it as well as this place.
Yeah.. I suck at introductions. So that's me. :)
charlyee April 12th, 2004, 07:17 AM I am "charlyee" and I live in Racine, WI. I work full time as Electrical Engineer in a large consumer product company. I live with my husband and 2 Brittanys, Rusty, who is 3 years old today and Coco who will be 7 months on next Monday. I have one son in college. I love travelling and specially going on photo safaris.
I have had short ear length hair all my working life and started to let it grow in March of 1998. In 2000 September, I discovered Longhair Lovers site and lurked for a good 2 years and joined LHC beginning of last year.
AND Ofcourse I am addicted to this site.
Shelly April 12th, 2004, 07:55 AM I am Shelly. I am a housewife and mother of 4. In my spare time I like to play Rainbow Six 3 on xbox live, I like to knit, I love working on my site and I love caring for my 30.5" long hair. Within the next 3 to 5 years I plan to go to beauty school to get licensed and after that, to Pivot Point in Illinois to get the long hair training and claim my rightful title as Long Hair Specialist. By that time, my own hair will be about classic to mid-thigh if not knee length and I will have the hair to back up the title. I plan to do more but that will come in a new story on the new site entitled, "My Dreams." I'm not going to give it away. Hair is my life and there's nothing I can or want to do about it. :)
ladybug April 12th, 2004, 08:10 AM Hi I'm Ladybug.
I've been a member here since June (I think) of 2003. I started growing my hair long about three years ago. After various mistakes and successes, I think I like my hair about 22-25 inches long (a real shortie-lover on this site, but where else would I go? The Medium-length Hair Community? --besides you can't get rid of me that easily! :hollie: )
I'm a stay-at-home mom living on the Cumberland Plateau in Tennessee. (BTW it's just gorgeous here this spring) I have:
1 husband
1 son
1 daughter
1 dog
2 cats
2 houses (eeek, at least until we close the sale on this one)
1.1 million things to do.
My hobbies include: photography, reading, writing, taking care of my kids, catching up on my sleep, and trying to get back into shape. :wannabe:
Snowymoon April 12th, 2004, 08:30 AM I am Snowy. I am 30 years old, married for nearly 14 years now with a 12-year-old daughter.
I have had long hair off and on mixed with a few short and bad haircuts (never shorter than chin length, though), several perms and hair colorings of all shades. My best hair was when I was a kid and could sit on my hair and again at 29 when it was BSL. Then I chopped it. BIG MISTAKE. I promised myself I will NEVER cut again or have hair shorter than BSL. I am right now at 19 inches and on my 2nd week of CO, scalp massages, no more blow-frying and supplements/vitamins. I hope to grow back out to 25 inches (BSL) again as quickly as possible and then on to waist and perhaps tailbone/classic, and this time my hair will be even better than before, as I am caring for it so much better thanks to all I have learned here! I really love long hair, and I love it even more on me! (giggles).
My hair is light reddish brown/golden blonde with natural highlights and streaks (CO really brings this out) and pretty naturally wavy (natural spiral curls underneath and at temples).
This board has really helped me so much already!
KateMcC April 12th, 2004, 08:41 AM I'm not sure if I ever introduced myself properly the first time, so here goes.......
Hi :waving: I'm Kate. I live near Dallas, TX with my DH of 14+ years, DS-12 and DS-9. We have one dog, two gerbils, and an empty fishtank. :nono: My degree and my passion is English. I love words (in case you haven't yet noticed): literature, grammar (although I'm handicapped by living in Texas), linguistics, and rhetoric. I hope to soon start on my Master's degree, preferably in Victorian/19th century Literature. For my day job; however, I am in aquatics. I teach water aerobics, coach competitive swimming, and lifeguard as needed. Hobbies include reading, swimming, baseball (both my boys play, hubby umpires, I'm a team mom and board member, so all my free time during baseball season is at the fields), organic gardening, and I'm spending way too much time on LHC boards. I became a vegetarian last July due to health reasons, and am learning new stuff daily about that and am amazed how much better my hair and nails are growing.
As for hair, I was never allowed to have hair longer than pixie length while growing up, so the first time I started to grow it out was in college, more as rebellion than anything (I'm pretty boring as far as true rebellion). Met DH there and he liked it long. We dated 5 weeks, and were engaged 5 months. During that time I had an awful experience with perming and coloring and had to have all my hair cut off right before the wedding. Started growing it long again while pregnant with second son. Seemed like a good time since the hormones were helping. After he was born, I had some major medical issues and couldn't care for it--couldn't even handle combing it--so cut it back to a pixie. Decided in 2000, when I went back to college to change my degree, that I really did want long hair, for ME. I stopped coloring and tried to learn more about long hair (RESEARCH is part of my love of words :graduate: ). I discovered GM and his hair philosophies and that got me started. I found a GM salon nearby, and he directed me to this site. I lurked for quite a while and then when some questions regarding haircare and swimming came up, decided that was my cue to jump in.
Thanks to all who have shared hairdo's, journals, and their experience and wisdom. I have learned so much and hope I can contribute some as well.
AmberBella April 12th, 2004, 08:58 AM Hi,
I'm Amber. I'm 28 yrs old living in Los Angeles. DH and I are newly married (August 16th 2003) with no children yet. I've recently moved here from Upstate NY (which I dearly miss) where I lived the previous 10 years of my life and recently finished Graduate School. I teach middle school general and choral music...in college I mainly studied voice.
My hair was very long all through my childhood...my first hair cut was when I was 12 yrs. old. I begged and begged for it because I was a gymnast and the extra long hair was very difficult to deal with in competitions. At 15 I went red and didn't look back till 3 years ago when I decided to return to my long forgotten natural hue. I will be working on that goal for several more years.
I seem to keep returning to long hair. I tend to have it cut to shoulders....then don't touch it till it reaches waist. Then it's back to shoulders. This has been my typical pattern. So this past time I decided to let it keep growing. My current goal is Classic length...then I'll probably cut it back to waist. But who knows...I may love it at classic...especially when my hair is all natural. Only time will tell.
requiemofroses April 12th, 2004, 09:49 AM Alright...My name is Casey and I'm one of the newest members, I think, as I've only just discovered this community this last week. I'm 19 years old and I just got married on September 27th to my wonderful husband, Phill. We're both originally from Northern California, but we just moved to Tucson, AZ this last October, because he (an aerospace mechanic in the USAF) got stationed here at Davis-Monthan AFB. We have no kids and we had to leave my beautiful german shepard, Bobbie, back home, as she can't travel with us. :wail: We're going to be getting a cat soon, though, which will give me company and help alleviate the lonliness at night, when he's at work.
I hope to attend beauty college to pursue Aesthetics and Makeup Artistry within the next 1-2 years and would also like to educate myself in Spa Therapy. My interests include: thrift shopping, writing, traveling, makeup artistry, casual philosophy, making people laugh, being as curious as possible, roaming aimlessly at interesting bookstores, handpainted shoes, disproportionate/bizarre objects, discovering great obscure music and art, etc. My most current obsession is Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab, so I share MagpieDee's love. They're another great group of people I was lucky enough to come across!
My hair is naturally a rich, medium auburn but is currently a brighter, honey shade of auburn because of a highlight job for my wedding. I've had shoulder to midback length hair most of my life, with a few shorter cuts inbetween, but have always dreamed of having waist length hair or longer. I've wanted to see if I could actually grow out my hair that long ever since I saw a picture of my mom when she was a teenager and she had the most beautiful, thick, lustrous, copper waist-length hair my tiny eyes had ever witnessed. She looked like a goddess and I've always envied that hair. :inlove: So, I recently decided, since I'm now almost back to the longest length I've ever had, that there's no better time than now to try. I used to dye (and a few times, I bleached :nono: ) my hair for years between ages 13-17, but finally decided my hair couldn't take anymore after it started to have major breakage when I was 17 and stopped dying it. I let my roots grow all out and I cut my hair above the shoulders to cut off the damage when I was 18...and I've been growing my hair out since. It was virgin hair until September, as I said, for my wedding when I got highlights - what's worse is that it was a botch HL job with too much bleach blonde and she had to go back and redye in some of my natural to balance it out...it looks fine now, but it was killer on my hair...so, now I'm going to be preoccupied with nursing my hair back to it's previous luster and health. And, well...that's pretty much it. I found this website and now I'm here stay! :waltz:
I look forward to learning and growing (my hair and as a person, both) with you guys and maybe one day soon, I'll have some advice of my own to give. Until then, I'll be religiously following yours!
Mariah April 12th, 2004, 10:23 AM Hi, my name is Mariah, and I'm a hair-a-holic...
Seriously...been here awhile and love it...came for the inspiration, stayed for the friendship and fun...my hair is currently past BS length, and my goal is knee-length. My work is as a Phd Student in history, my life is centered around my current journey of self-discovery and working on my spiritual growth. I have two little kitties who I love like they are my biological children (Maggie and Tibbald - had them from 3 weeks old, bottle fed them, and I'm definitely "mamma cat" to them), and a boyfriend whom I love very much as well. My interests are: spirituality, meditation, yoga, herbalism/ aroma therapy, internet shopping (I'm an ADDICT!), reading, writing poetry, and watching T.V. (which I do WAY too much of!)...and playing with my kitties, of course! ;)
nastasska April 12th, 2004, 10:36 AM Hello I am Nastasska(Belinda)and I love long hair :inlove: I always have.I really want my hair to grow to ankle length.
I love my two dogs Sooty and Missy more than anything.
I also love writing, singing, flamenco and belly dancing, reading and horror movies :smooch:
Grenwich April 12th, 2004, 10:49 AM My RL name is Kim, but please call me Gren. I'm 38, married to the best man I have ever known, with 2 furkids - Jackie and Molly. We live in upstate NY in a cool neighborhood full of dogs.
I was a chef through most of the 80's, but got tired of the hours and went into market research, which has by turn frustrated and sustained me til March of this year, when I quit my job. WOO HOO!
I'm now making dolls (with long hair) and relaxing. I'm a voracious reader who loves to travel. I would do just about anything to be able to go back and live in Europe. We lived outside of Frankfurt Germany for almost 2 years - and I miss it terribly.
We hike regularly, and now that spring might actually be arriving, we're planning our first trip of the season to Blue Mountain (3759 ft from sea level) in the Adirondacks for the first weekend of May! The dream is to eventually walk the whole of the Appalachian Trail. We've done some of the Delaware Water Gap section already.
I've been growing my hair out from a super short cut for 20 years. I'm all thumbs when it comes to hairtoys (except sticks) and would love to grow to mid-thigh length or so...depending on what the ends look like.
cheers~
Gren
wonderlywroughte April 12th, 2004, 10:51 AM Hi! I'm Dana. I'm 19, from New Jersey, obsessed with hair, etc. Just kidding! My hair had been long all through my childhood. It was thin and stick-straight. I had it cut to my shoulders in 6th grade, than to my chin, and finally a pixie cut in 10th grade. Immediatedly following that, I grew it back out and found it was growing back in wavy/curly! I love this site, especially seeing pictures of everyone else's beautiful hair!
I think for me, my love of long hair is inspired by fantasy, and also the medieval time period. I like to draw (either one of the two things mentioned, hehe) and I play the harp. I'd love to learn embroidery or learn how to make dresses and costumes and such. Music is very important to me (I'd love to have actual harp lessons sometime, on a regular sized harp. Heh.)
That's all! Not too interesting, I'm afraid!
hairbrain April 12th, 2004, 11:13 AM Hi again everybody!
I am a hairbrain...oops I mean I AM hairbrain...one in the same I guess... :misskim:
I just turned 29 and 4/4, yes I'm in denial. I have been with my husband for a little over 14 years and we've been married for a little over 3. No kids yet.
I've been trying to grow my hair long for a few years now and it seems my problem was my wonderful, but scissor-happy hairdresser! I used to get soo paranoid going in there and I would stress (just a little, not a lot, only the tippity-ippity ends) CHOP CHOP CHOP. I always went back because I didnt know I could actually cut my ends myself -properly-until I discovered this board. I believe I did a :google: search for braids, since Im teaching myself how to do different ones. I cannot get the 5 strand though!!!! anyways I think thats how I found LHC.
I also think its funny how a certain event leads to others...such as:
I hurt my back somehow in '98 and it never seemed to get better. Then in January '02 I couldnt move at all. Through physical therapy and spinal epidural steroid injections all year, nothing worked and I had a lumbar microdiscectomy in Oct '02. Nope that didnt work.So then in '03 I was worse and after more physical therapy and procedures I went under the knife again in August '03 for a fusion. I'm still trying to heal from that now and I'm out of work. http://pages.prodigy.net/rogerlori1/emoticons/fit.gif This is our reason for no kids yet. ouch that would really hurt my back huh?
The good thing is: I quit smoking while in the hospital for my last surgery after smoking for 15 years! half my life !!! http://pages.prodigy.net/rogerlori1/emoticons/Smoker.gifso those bad things led to that one VERY good thing because I refused to quit and thought I'd be smoking forever.
Also, being at home, now I've found all you guys who have helped me tremendously.
Because I couldnt get to the hairdresser, I didnt have my highlights retouched and when I saw how nice the hair was that was growing out I decided to just let it be. One thing leads to another, leads to another...maybe everything does happen for a reason.
So I am addicted to LHC now and I'm on a mission for healthy hair ! And since I'm trimming it myself, its actually growing, imagine that.
I'm also a product JUNKIE so maybe its good that I'm out of work for now, it'll give my cabinets a rest. hehe
E. April 12th, 2004, 11:37 AM My name is Élena and I won´t tell you my age because since this year I´ll have to lie 8) I´ve had long hair most of my life with some short cuts in between. I am still a student, longing desperately for my gradution. My hobbies are reading (a lot!), my horse, cooking, belly dancing and I am planning to learn salsa as soon as I can afford the needed time!
TammySue April 12th, 2004, 11:57 AM Hi, my real name is Tammy Sue. I found LHC in September of 2002 and have learned so much!
My hair is currently 31 1/4". I trim it myself using Feye's method.
I live in Pennsylvania, am happily married (second time around), have 2 sons and 2 cats. All male - ha!
I'm a legal secretary, but in my spare time I love to do counted cross stitch, read, study gemology, and go camping. I have a collection of vintage hair combs. I also collect gold/platinum charms.
Welcome to all the newbies and hope you enjoy the boards as much as I do!

Starfilly April 12th, 2004, 01:30 PM I'm Stephanie, 17, from North Carolina. I love horses, sci-fi, books, art, music, archery, and, of course, long hair. I'm homeschooled along with my younger brother, and I'm attending the local community college. I hope to major in English and go into the literature/editing field. I have two dogs, two cats, and two horses whom I enjoy very much.
I'm growing my hair out from just past shoulder length. I've always loved long hair, and it was hip-length for awhile until I decided a change would be nice. Definitely going to be staying long now, though!
BeeLady April 12th, 2004, 01:51 PM Hi, I'm Bees (Beth) and I'm living in Cambridgeshire, UK.
I've been married for 8 years this July, to a wonderful wonderful man. I have no children (although I'd like them) and spend my time: sewing, reading, gardening (currently a major thing, as we moved last year and I have a very mature and overgrown garden to create sense out of), working as a shop assistant (which I hate) and in a charity store as a voluteer (which I like). I have an u/g degree in Psychology, and have also trained to teach and assess listening and communication skills. I'm a Methodist lay preacher, and when the muse hits for long enough, I write - mainly poetry and other scattered words. I'm on a mission to teach new music in worship and I mainly just enjoy people. I also like: my godchildren, music and having a happy and welcoming home.
Hair: has always been pretty long. I'm growing from a B/S length cut in 1999, and was just getting my length back when I found LHL by accident almost two years ago. I lurked for a little while, and then jumped right in. I love this community and it's diversity and vibrancy. My hair is currently recovering from a major stress shed and is inching thinly towards classic.
A warm welcome to all the newbies...you are full welcome here.
Chamomile betty April 12th, 2004, 04:30 PM Hi, my name is betty.
I live in Ohio, out in the county with my parents, brother and pets (bunnies, dogs, cats and what every else wanders into the yard). I just turned 30 this past winter. I am going to school working on a grad degree in Special Ed. I was married but have been divorced for a few years.
I enjoy reading mysteries, ghost stories, watching classic movies, britcoms, gadening, crafts, decorating and baking cookies. Halloween is my favorite holiday.
My hair is BSL and my long term goal is waist length.
Welcome all you newbies and hi to all you ol' regulars.
Angel Hugs and Love
Lexy April 12th, 2004, 04:49 PM I'm Lexy. I live in Northern California with my husband of 8 years and my two kids- DS is 5 and DD is almost 3. The oldest is mostly homeschooled (he's in school 2 days a week) and the little one will be homeschooled once she's out of preschool. We also have 2 cats (brothers) and a dog (Flash the Famous Foxhound :) ).
I have a degree in Psychology and I work as a Case Manager for an Alternative Payment Program. DH is part time stay-at-home Dad and full time student. He is almost done with his History degree and will start on his second major (computer science) in the Fall.
I love reading, gardening, baking, running and weightlifting.
My hair is almost 25', which is close to the longest it's ever been. It was at 26' about 2 months ago, but I cut off the last layers. It's wavy-ish and dyed red. I'm hoping to get to waist length, and I MAY go to classic depending on condition.
strawberry April 12th, 2004, 08:04 PM alrighty, my name is Shannon, and I'm 22  and I'm from Corpus Christi TX, but right now I'm attending a university. I found this community when it was LHL, waaaaaay back in 2000 it must have been :disbelief Since then I've learned an incredible amount and met some wonderful people (online and in rl).
I'm going to school right now to finish up my Construction Science degree, and intend to enter an Architect graduate degree program after I graduate, because I love to design things and am just enough of a control freak that I want to design AND build stuff myself :)
I love to sew, knit, read, bead, shop, drive, cook, bake (mmmmm, baking), laugh, used to love writing enough to do it all the time :writer: (ok, i put that in just to use the smiley). And of course I love to mess with my hair.
Because of MANY factors non-peer pressure related, the picture in my siggy is a lie and my hair is now barely bs :shake: I'm growing it back out, and I plan on having longer hair as I get older, but as I approached tailbone, my hair was becoming more and more unmanageable from past abuse.
Ummmmm, I guess that's about it. I don't really have a pet boy of my very own yet, but hopefully someday :flowers:
snippet April 12th, 2004, 09:50 PM I'm snippet, I'm 43 and perimenopausal too - so I'm dangerous. :)
6 years ago I divorced my husband of 16 years and have two kids - 13 and 10. We have 2 dalmatians, 2 gerbils and a dwarf hamster.
I'm Texan born and bred, although I've lived in a few other places. I love traveling.
If you've read any of my posts yet, you already know I'm plain, simple and honest. I'm also very chatty online, but in real life I'm shy and quiet most of the time.
Luna Bella April 13th, 2004, 01:42 AM My name is Maricela and I am 23 years old.
My home town is Goleta, California and I now live in the Netherlands/ South Holland. I met a wonderful Dutch man on the internet in 1998. I moved to the Netherlands 2 years ago. I just wanted to be with him but I didn’t know it would be this difficult. After two years of struggling with the language, culture shock and my new life here, I’m finally going to study nursing this September. Would I go through this again? No!
I’m painfully shy on the internet and in real life. LOL!
It takes forever to get to know me but I’m friendly, honest and caring.
I love to travel, eat at a good restaurant, movies, and enjoy a Corona on a sunny day... Oh and I love long walks through forests, parks and beaches. I just like a serene life.
We don’t have kids. And we don’t plan on having any for a very long time. We’ll just enjoy the nieces and nephews for now.
I enjoy visiting the long hair community. I found it six months after moving to NL, It helped me forget my loneliness and struggles. J I also got healthy hair, of course and learned a bunch from these gals.
E. April 13th, 2004, 01:49 AM @ Luna Bella- I think your story is very, very romantic *sigh*
saxgirl April 13th, 2004, 05:18 AM In case you are a member of both places, yes this intro is adapted from my one at TLHS. Do you think I would want to type all of this twice?
Hi! My name is Kari. I've been hanging out on hairy internet sites since autumn of 2000. At that time my hair was thigh length. I was a life-long longhair. The shortest my hair had ever been (not counting being born) was a little above waist length. By the time I was Week's Lady on TLHS in February 2001, my hair was classic length. It was breaking off and falling out horribly at the time due to a lot going on in my body that I wasn't aware of at the time.
On January 27, 2003, I was diagnosed with cancer, a quite advanced stage of Hodgkin's Disease (lymphoma) and was given the option of chemo or die. I made the very tough decision to lose all of my hair to chemo. I went to a GM salon and had it cut off before starting chemo so I could save it. I still have it. It is just not on my head anymore. :rollin: I spent over a year fighting cancer and was given the all clear sign on Monday, April 5, 2004.
I met lots of people from hairy sites over the last few years. Several people I met are RL friends now for the last couple years or so. They have proven themselves to be unbelievable friends in the worst of times, so I count myself very lucky to have been introduced to the hairy side of the internet.
There is more to me than hair and cancer. I like music, motorcycles, skiing, rollerblading, computer stuff and hiking. I'm from the middle of a forest, so I kind of like hanging out in the woods, riding a bike in the woods (motor or no motor), hiking in the woods, etc. You get the idea. I'm a wannabe country girl forced into city life <sigh> so that I can have a job. :no I am also a musician, but due to the need for money I work as a Network Administrator.
I also have the absolutely cutest dog in the whole world. She is somewhere on the pet board if you would like to check her out. She is a four-year-old Maltese. She's a little sweetie, and she enjoys expressing how much she loves everyone by licking the heck out of them any time she sees them.
The only other thing is that I'm also going to school as a Biochemistry major. I would like to go into cancer research, but I will probably have to work in random medical research until the right opportunity happens for me.
That is about all there is to know about me. Now you know more about me than you ever wanted to know, and if you have seen some threads, then this was nothing compared to the stuff you know about me.
summr April 13th, 2004, 06:10 AM My name is Vicki, and I'm 36. I live in Wyoming with my husband of 18 yrs and I'm a sahm for my three kids aged: 16(May), 13 and 10.
We live two miles out of town in a subdivision where there are antelope and deer and rabbits roaming freely, and we have a dog and a cat.
I like movies , music, working out, shopping, reading , going out and traveling. I'm a summer person so I love outdoor summer activites- swimming, camping, picnics and hanging out with my family .
My hair has been at classic length off and on through my child hood with brief periods of pixies/short do's. Two yrs ago I had waist length hair but bc of constant changing of hair colors I ended up with hair about neck bone length as of last Sept.
I am currently regrowing again.
GoldLady April 13th, 2004, 06:19 PM Hi! I'm Deb or 'GoldLady' here at LHC. I've been around since the old days of LHL.. wow, about three years or so now? Time flies! I've been so busy, that I haven't been posting much lately, but I try to stop in when I can.
I'm 42 and have been married for almost six years (the second time) to the best guy ever. I was married the first time for 11 years right out of college to a guy of rather low character. I learned my lesson and my life is really great right now!
I don't have any 2 legged kids, but I do have several of the 4 legged kind. We have 2 dogs (a Boston terror and a Chihuahua) named Sophie and Lucy. They are the namesakes of my Hairstik business and of course, approve all orders before they go out.
We used to raise horses and still have three bay mares whom we enjoy very much. We are now spending more time with our llamas... yes, you read right, our llamas! We saw them last year for the first time at the Fair and decided to invest in a couple. We were warned they're like potato chips (hard to have just one) and we now have 6. I put a Website together for the llamas with lots of pictures at www.llamablankets.com/hillside.htm Stop by if you'd like to see our llamas.
My hair is currently BS length (25"). It was waist length (32") through the winter, but I cut it back and tapered it around my face early this year. I was wearing it up too much and just felt like a change. I'm happy with it now and will probably go for a final length somewhere between the two - maybe around 28" -ish? Here's a picture of my hair right after I had it cut... It's an inch or so longer than this now:
http://www.berwinwebdesign.com/hair/2004a.gif
I really like the taper around my face and plan to keep it. Okay! I've rambled enough. Thanks for reading. :waving:
E. April 14th, 2004, 01:35 AM Llamas are so cool! I do own a gaited horse that is a new race, a mix between Islandic horse and Peruvian Paso. The Paso owners very often have a couple of llamas because the imported horses are familiar with them and they are great for grazing care.
Gaijin April 14th, 2004, 04:50 AM Hello,
I stumbled in here about to weeks ago and never really properly introduced myself. I sorta just jumped in and started posting, probably because I just thought I would be asking one question and I was too shy to initially do an intro. However, I ended up lingering a lot longer because there's something new and useful practically every day. Plus I've never been to a more welcoming place online before, which is probably why I never joined any other discussion groups, this gets to be my first, (and probably only one, where else would I need to go? :) )
Anyhoo, I am in Japan, which I love. I live with my hubby of 4 years and our black lab/cocker spaniel mixed dog Missy. She's the biggest sweetheart in the world. No plans for kids right now. My husband is in the Air Force and working very hard. I am finishing up a bachelor's in psychology online. Not quite sure what I'd like to do with it yet, kicking around a lot of ideas.
I love to read and hope to be doing a lot more of it once I'm done with my studies. I was never a product junkie..until now, thanks guys
bikerbraid April 14th, 2004, 05:18 AM I've been coming here for almost 2 years. I have dark blonde slightly wavy hair that is to my hips. I've had long hair once before, preceding the birth of my son. I seem to prefer extremes, either my hair is very short or I refuse to have anyone touch it and it gets long. I had no plan for my hair to get this long, but all the wonderful people here and other long hair sites, showed me that it can be done and how to maintain healthy hair.
I work as a software developer, trainer and supporter for a small company. We have financial and payroll/HR software.
I ride a recumbent bike when the weather allows in Minnesota. I enjoy riding to work, riding the trails, and take at least one week long trip a year. During the summer, 100 miles a week is not uncommon. Back problems prevent me from riding a "wedgie" (regular) bike.
My hobbies include the needle arts - cross stitch, tatting, crochet, and knitting. Most recently I have been knitting mittens and socks.
My household is the epitome of geekiness. I write software, hubby of almost 30 years (in May), is a network engineer managing over 250 servers, and my son, 23, is a sys admin for a company that sells time on Cray Supercomputers. We've been known to instant message each other from room to room in the house. My son is about to be married, so my time here will be limited for the next month or so.
When I have the time I enjoy participating in the Friday and Saturday chats at FLHC2. I moderate two other long hair boards, HAIR (a private group) and LongLocks Salon (http://www.longlocks.com/salon/) and also participate at TLHS (http://members4.boardhost.com/tlhs/).
robin aka bikerbraid,
Queen of the Bike Paths, planning my return this week (assuming it doesn't snow again).
purplebubba April 14th, 2004, 12:55 PM Hello,
I stumbled in here about to weeks ago and never really properly introduced myself. I sorta just jumped in and started posting, probably because I just thought I would be asking one question and I was too shy to initially do an intro.
Hi Gaijin, welcome to LHC and I'm glad you introduced yourself. You sound like a pretty cool lady. :)
Gaelle April 14th, 2004, 01:53 PM I'm Gaelle, I'm 24 years old and I live in France. I used to be a physical therapist but now I study chemistry. I also studied English but I stopped before getting my Master's degree. I guess I really love studies!!!
I don't have a boyfriend or any children.
I like reading, cooking, visiting museums, watching TV and I also like French beads. I love listening to music. My favorite male singer is Robbie Williams and my favorite female singer is Nolwenn Leroy, a French singer who has got a wonderful voice.
I am also able to speak German, but not very well.
I've always wanted to have long hair. I've never had the patience to let it grow. My hair has never been that long. It grows very slowly.
I haven't had a haircut for 3 years and a half. My goal is waist length.
Beatnik Guy April 14th, 2004, 02:06 PM Hmmmm, my turn? :silly:
I'm Chris, 35, living in Southern England, single, employed as a glorified paper shuffler by the city council. My hair is around waist length, dark blonde, coarse, sometimes wavy. It grows slowly, and while extra length would be cool, I'm quite happy with what has currently been accomplished on that front. I've been coming to LHC since the start and was at LHL before then since umm the start. And I've hanging out at other hair sites, such as TLHS, for lotsa years too.
Hair aside, my interests include travel (just got back from Japan), photography, music, art, movies, reading. And it has been my pleasure to have met a number of people who contribute to long hair sites in real life and to be able to count them as personal friends.

Karrinne April 14th, 2004, 03:03 PM I am Karrinne, I am 43, a wife of 17 years (second time around altho now one of my best friends is my ex's new wife LOL!!! who woulda thunk it???), and mother to 5 kids, three DD ages 23, 21, & 20, and two DS ages 22 and 23, one adorable son in law, one grandson in Heaven, and have been foster mother to 11 over the years, most of whom still keep in touch with me. One of them even lived with us til he was 22. :grouphug:
I have two outdoor cats and one outdoor dog. I am a nurse with 21 yrs experience, and I love to read, walk, and play on the internet. I like to set up other people's computers and do computer troubleshooting for my friends as a hobby. I can sew, although I don't have nearly enough time to do so anymore. I try to attend church once a week, usually twice.
My hair has always been long except :-( for a terrible episode in high school with sun-in used over top of a horrrrrrrrible home perm and it all broke off to shoulder length, and in 1988 when I went to a strange salon for a trim and ended up with about 10 inches gone! Right now it is below the small of my back, and I am hoping for knee length.
Jennifer April 14th, 2004, 03:43 PM I'm Jennifer! I joined LHC a few months ago. I have 5 children, the oldest, almost 17 and driving and my youngest a little girl who's 2 1/2 and driving us nuts!! :-) Just kidding of course!! :grnbiggri
I am a SAHM and am kept quite busy with my home and family. I love to read and learn about new things. I have found the internet to be such a wealth of information and has really broadened my mind and my ideas. I enjoy Yoga and Pilates, bikeriding, and being there for my kids and spending time with my husband and friends. I like dancing, shooting pool, swimming, though I don't do them as much lately as I'd like to.
I would like to see how long I can grow my hair. Ideally, I would like tailbone length hair. But, maybe longer, we'll see. For now, my hair is at BS length (growing out a long layered cut). The longest my hair has ever been is waist length because I've always thought it needed cutting and would get a few inches or more cut off and start over again, never shorter than shoulder length. I wish I would have found these boards before my last chop!! :no I am enjoying the boards and have learned a lot from everyone already and am inspired by all the wonderful people here and the gorgeous hair pics!!
Dispatcherbert April 14th, 2004, 06:46 PM I'm Jo. I'm an (almost) 38-year-old police dispatcher for the University of Minnesota (Twin Cities campus). Before being recruited for this job almost three years ago, I dispatched for the City of Minneapolis for 8.5 years. While working for Minneapolis, I met my husband of almost five years, Scott, who is a Minneapolis police officer. Scott and I have three feline children (all rescued): Lenny, our 8-year-old DLH (who is also diabetic and requires insulin twice/day); Maisey, our 7.5-year-old DSH/Siamese cross; and Lil Bit (AKA The Baby), our 3-year-old DLH/calico. Scott and I recently built a house 40 minutes northwest of Minneapolis and absolutely love it. We still have a lot of work left with landscaping, etc. but we're up for it.
I happened onto this site from the old LHL site. I can't begin to say how much the support has helped me with my hair growth. When I think back about all of my past hair mistakes, I absolutely cringe.
Next...
anniespagani April 14th, 2004, 10:44 PM Hi I'm Andrea. I don't think I've ever mentioned my RL name here. Of course that would probably be due to the extremly small amont of posts that I post. (How's that for redundancy? :tealbiggr ) I'm usually so busy soaking in all the information I have nothing to say.
I'm 23 and have had longish hair most of my life, except when I was small and my mom saw the need to give me a pixie because it was "cute". I have gleaned so much info from this site  I am currently in Nursing School and will be taking my state boards in June(ish) for my LVN/LPN. If I get accepted to the RN program I will be in school for one more year-yeah! I am so burnt out on the whole school thing.
I am a vorocious reader and scrapbooker. I love Spicy Limon Cheetos and Peanut M&M's...give me either and I'll be your best friend.... :)
oneKnight April 15th, 2004, 10:02 AM I'm lazy so I searched up my original 'introduction'
Hey, I'm pretty new here. My sister has been on the boards for a while, and I surf various other boards though.
I've had short hair since I was little, and it was really nice when I was a swimmer, but I got tired of having the same look so i started growing it out. I've only had 2 trims since last June, my bangs are to my mouth and the back of my hair is almost to touching my shoulders. I may not go to what yall would call "long" but I just kindof needed more support so I wouldn't go chop it off again!
I may get another trim in February, to even up the bangs with the rest of the hair (or the hair to the bangs...) but I haven't decided how long I'm gonna go with it. :waving:
and to update, I am 18 I've worked at Wal-Mart for a year, my sister is MissPriss, my goal is classic length which is about 38" on me, my bangs are well-below my chin and my hair is past shoulder-length, my ears that I got pierced 2 days before that post are mostly healed, my favorite products continue to be Aussie clarifying shampoo and Suave conditioners, and Aussie "smoothie gel" when I need it.
Meezer April 15th, 2004, 10:21 AM Greetings! I'm Sher, 27, orginally from South Jersey and now living in Southwest FL. I'm married without children to my HS sweetheart. We have 3 cats (a Himalayan and two Siamese)... all of which we treat like little humans. I am a graduate of Rutgers University (B.A- Sociology & Anthropology) and I am also a Licensed Massage Therapist and Esthetician. At the moment, I am dividing my time between being a homemaker (probably the best job in the world) and finishing up my R.N. I spent 8 years with the Air Force Resevers as a Medic. I love swimming, tennis, long walks, reading, and people watching (it's the anthropologist in me). Automobiles and reality shows are my guilty pleasure. I had my hair thermally reconditioned on April 19, 2003. Although I had an excellent result, after about two months the novelty of having stick straight hair wore off and I missed my 3A curls something fierce. So, near the end of 2003, I cut all of the TR'ed parts off... and now I am on the grow (I strated my LHC journal pre-TR, so you can read all about the highs and lows of it there). I absolutely ADORE this board and all of the people on it! One of the most friendly e-communities out there!
Hugs to all!
Teacherbear April 16th, 2004, 03:58 PM I'm going to try this again. My computer froze after I typed my first re-intro.
My name is Teacherbear, though that isn't the name my parents gave me! LOL
I've had long hair (shoulder or longer) almost all of my life. The two exceptions were my first hair cut (pixie in Kindergarten) and an attempted Dorothy Hamil by a hairdresser who didn't know what Dorothy's hair looked like . . . and I stayed and let her cut my hair (and shave my neck) anyway! :scared:
I was born in Ohio, but my family moved around a bit until we landed in Dallas when I started 1st grade. My parents still live in the house we moved to all those years ago.
I am the youngest of 5 children, the only girl.
I have a bachelor's and a master's degrees. Both are in education. Which leads me to Yes . . . I am a teacher. I've taught everything from 3rd grade to 8th grade. I prefer teaching middle school to elementary school.
I collect bears (teddy, grizzly, and polar). I have bear stuff all over the place.
I found long hair boards just over 3 years ago. I realized my hair was waist length one day. I went looking for a place to ask a few questions. I found a few long hair boards, but really liked LHL (the old network54 boards). I found it, and I stayed!
LHL changed from net54 to a paid site. I followed. At that time, the network54 LHC (run by Shawnee) was begun. I visited periodically. Eventually I became disatisfied with (paid) LHL and went to LHC where so many of my beloved online friends were. I've followed LHC ever since. I also visit The Long Hair Loom, though I don't post there often. Every now and then I'll go look at other sites (in particular LHL and TLHS), but prefer LHC.
I guess that is all.
Oh, you might not notice, but I talk alot!!! ;) bwhahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Also, I want to brag, to date I have met (in person) twenty one LHCers!!!!!
Grey_Lady April 17th, 2004, 12:42 PM Hi everyone! I've been browsing the boards here for awhile, and decided to join. My hair is just past my shoulders right now. I eventually want it to be waist length.
I've always wanted long hair, but grew up with a very anti-long hair stepmother. (Kinda like snow white, except different) :ponder:
My natural color is dark blonde, but I've been trying to get it a silver blonde. I've decided to stop using permanent colors, because they damage my hair too much. Will be trying semi-permanent soon.
Hmm, other stuff. I'm 23, married with pets. Hee. I have an ancient wiener dog, two cats, and assorted aquariums. I'm originally from Texas, but now live in Canada. I work for an internet dating website, which can be more boring than you might think sometimes. Most of the time I enjoy it. I am a *huge* horror fan. Books, movies, etc. Have been since I was 4. My favorite movie is The Ring. I love the character Samara from this movie. Not only did she have awesome long hair, she had *spooky* awesome long hair. I am also a huge bookworm. My husband and I are both big into beading as a hobby. We may start to sell our jewelry soon, I don't know. Recently I tried my hand making hairsticks, and I've been pleased with the results.
Sylph April 18th, 2004, 02:29 AM Apologies for not posting this earlier, I only just became aware of this thread. I’m not very good at talking about myself either, so apologies for that too.
The Hair
When I was 6, I sternly turned to my mother an announced I wanted long hair. For a very good reason too, I wanted to hair my hair in two bunches like a character from a cartoon, the name is which escapes me. In retrospect, perhaps growing my hair at such an age was foolish, as my mum was of the view that tangles are best removed by inserting a comb at the scalp and pulling hard.
For many years I had a thick fringe, but I started growing that out and now I just have one length of hair. I’m really bad at getting it cut, ever. For some reason hairdressers seem to have a maniacal urge to cut 6 inches off my hair so I don’t go anymore. I occasionally get my mum to trim it.
I love having long hair, and to be honest, I like having something that makes me noticeable and different to other people. I am vaguely considering getting a badge that says ‘Never’ so I can tap it whenever people ask me when I’m getting my hair cut short.
The Heart
What things are important to me? My husband, my family and my two cats. I might come across as a tiny bit insane over my cats, but they are lovely creatures and they help make a house my home.
The Her
I live with my husband in a medium sized town about 20mins drive from where I was born. I went to university at Oxford Brookes University where I studied Environmental Biology, a qualification which I use regularly in my government administration job ;) My husband and I jointly run 2 websites related to the paranormal. I’m dyslexic as well, so my posts will be full of typos. Sorry about that! I’m a vegetarian, and I’m always on the lookout for animal friendly cosmetics.
I think that’s it really, sorry for the rambling. Look forwards to talking with all of you
Niphredil April 18th, 2004, 09:32 AM Hi I'm Niphredil (not my real name though) and I found this forum about a year ago (May 2003) when I was looking for new ideas for my hair...
I always have had longish hair, but seeing the pictures of all these lovely ladies (and gentlemen ofcourse!) inspired me to grow my hair longer !
I started at about 23 1/2 inch, which is slightly above bsl on me, and quite some layers (which I like in my hair at that length).
I feel that my ends are still quite damaged but it is all one length by now and at appr. 28 inches. I'm planning on growing till waistlenght (or there about) and stay there for a while to growout damage and then to go on for as far as I feel to....
I'm 22 and a student though I'm living together with my bf for almost three years.
Oh, and I live in the Netherlands....
I think that was all....

Sandylou April 19th, 2004, 07:29 PM Hi, I'm Sandy. I started growing my hair when it was cool in the 1960's and I kept it long all these years even when it wasn't in style. I plan on having long hair the rest of my life. I think it has kept me looking and acting years younger than I am. I'm a mom to two sons, age 23 and almost 18. I love everything about nature. I like to go camping, biking and swimming. I also enjoy sewing and studying the Bible. I like to go for drives late at night by myself looking for wildlife with a spotlight and listening to spring frogs and owls. I've been part of this community for a long time, when we were at the other site.
melisanda April 20th, 2004, 10:23 AM I'm melisanda (not my real name) and I'm from Slovenia (that's in south-central Europe just in case you ever wondered). I'm 21 years old and I'm a student.
I have discovered these boards through another forum and soon joined the community and I'm so glad I did.
I have been growing my fine (I only recently decided that it is fine after all) fragile hair unsuccessfully for the past couple of years and now I'm finally making some progress.
Before joining the community i wanted to grow my hair to bs length (though I wasn't thinking in those terms back then), now I'm tempted to grow my hair to at least waist length-but I'll see about that when my hair grows longer.
MisaLady May 2nd, 2004, 02:21 PM Hi, I'm M'isa. I'm 22 years old, married, mommy to one dog (Murray), one cat (Joey), and one guinea pig (Puff). No human babies... I had my tubes tied last year.
I've been lurking here off and on for a few months.
Hair History:
When I was very young, I had lots of hair. It was very long and had ringlets. (Mom says that I was born with a full head of hair, and. judging from the photos I've seen, she's right.) However, it got lots of tangles. One day, my mom decided to cut it. Very short. The ringlets never came back.
Mom had gone through some beauty school herself (she didn't finish) so I was mostly given haircuts by her. Many of them were absolutely horrid. Until I moved out of the house when I was 16, I didn't have that much control over the length. I'd gained some control, but not much.
So, after I moved out, I didn't cut my hair. At all. For two+ years. This, of course, made it kinda scraggly looking. I finally started getting a few trims and such. I'd considered cutting a few inches off of the length, but my SO at the time said that I couldn't. So, when he and I broke up, I cut it to right above shoulder length. Then, a few months later, I chose a cut that was fairly short... just a few inches long all over.
Back in September 2003, I started toying with the idea of growing it out. But I cut it a couple of weeks after that because I got frustrated at the in-between stage. I cut it again a couple of time, for the same reason. The last time was in Janurary 2004. Now, I'm at that stage, but I'm determined to grow it out.
So, although I don't have long hair right now, I'm planning on having long hair.

Hi M'isa
very nice to meet you and welcome to the LHC family.
I'm Robert, from Michigan. My intro is the first one in the thread above.
Stick with us and we'll get you to whatever length or health you want.
Even if that meant shorter and You liked it. ;)
Thanks for posting your intro. Let us know if you need anything or need support.
Poledra May 2nd, 2004, 02:58 PM Finally getting around to doing this. .
Name is Poledra, I'm a 21 year old university student studying archaeology and ancient history at the University of Toronto in. . . well, Toronto! My hair is 3a, dark brown and between hip and tailbone length right now. I've been consciously growing my hair for about a year and a half now from between shoulder and BSL. I originally found these wonderful boards in Jan/Feb 2003.
I have a wonderful BF who loves my hair long, although my family thinks that all long hair looks "unkept" or "unhealthy". Ah well, you can't win 'em all! I have a rex rabbit named Theodore who I adopted from the Humane Society and hope to continue on to grad school in a year.
Well, that's about all from me,

Gem May 2nd, 2004, 03:35 PM As you can probably see, my name is Mandy, I'm 19, and my hair is still pretty short
I am a student at the University of Wyoming, along with my husband of five months. I'm finishing up my freshman year, but will not be a sophomore for awhile because this fall I'm going into training to be a medic in the Army Reserves. I'm going back into regular school after that though, and hopefully I'll decide what on earth I want to DO :brickwall
As for personal interests, I absolutely love SF ("speculative fiction," covers both sci-fi and fantasy, plus some in-betweeners); my plans for the summer mostly include just reading as many books as possible. I play the clarinet, the guitar, and the piano (though the last two badly).
And hair: I was born bald and stayed that way until I was almost two, at which point I grew extremely thin, fragile hair. My mom always kept it as long as it would go (which was never beyond BSL). Despite my hair thickening quite a lot, I got frustrated with the lack of growth when I was fourteen (I always wanted my hair at least waistlength) and chopped it. It stayed in a very short, layered cut until HS graduation last year, when I decided not to cut again. Unfortunately, I've dyed my hair several times in the last year, but I'm being really careful with it now and I think it'll recover. It better; my sister is gloating over her newly-waistlength hair and it's driving me insane!
bellawave May 2nd, 2004, 03:46 PM Hello, I'm bellawave, which is a combo of my RL nickname and the type of hair I (mostly) have. I am 39 and am in IT, and live in the northeast US. No kids, no pets, one BF who is supportive of me growing my hair.
My hobbies are mostly reading, cooking, playing with computers, admiring nature (especially birds!), and following the Red Sox and Bruins (amazing I have any hair  ).
I joined lhc just about a year ago. I started with a short layered cut that I was growing out. It had been at BS length before that cut! I cut it because it was very damaged and wanted to grow out all healthy hair. As my layers grew I've been getting them trimmed off at the bottom, because I don't like layers on me as it turns out. Cocker spaniels are great with their fluffy, flippy floppy ears, but not good as a resemblance of my hair! So now I'm finally one length and am pursuing my length goals now. :hollie:
My canopy of hair tends to be more straight (except for some frizz), and the underlayers wavy, so right now it's easiest to style straight. As it grows longer the waves will start to reappear; for now those hairs are quite short. So I call myself a 1C/2A since that is the mix.
:waving:
euphrasyne May 2nd, 2004, 03:48 PM I've done several of these before, but just in case you missed one ;P
I'm euphrasyne--the insane gemini who rambles on and on. I am a jack of all trades but master of none. I have longish red hair, live in the deep south, and love to read.
I'm a claims adjuster by trade (the song "Its 5 o'clock somewhere" comes to mind,) but I am currently working out my notice period to make a transition to home parenting and going back to school. <--see I told you I was insane.
I currently have a wonderful dh, a 10 month premmie daughter --13 lb--(don't get me started.... lol,) 2 cats, 1 dog, and 1 fish.

MoonChild May 2nd, 2004, 10:33 PM Hi, my RLname is Carita and here I´m coming in as MoonChild. I found these sights last summer and at the very same time I decieded it was a perfect place for me to be. So I just signed in with the name of the song that was playing in my mind (Shakespeare´s sister; Moonchild). And I was so thrilled at the time I really didn´t introduce myself. So I guess it was about time!
So I´m 31 years old and live in Finland. My husband is American and we have a plan to go back "home" in a couple of years. I´m now pregnant with our first child and we both are hysterically happy about the Little Person! I´m due on Nov. 19th which is the same day my Husband is having his 35 year birthday. We will see how God will work out this one  .
We have a cat, Nikita (female) living with us. We are planning to move into a bigger place in a couple of months.
As a child I always had long hair, past waist lenght. I was a ballet dancer so all the time it was on a huge bun at the back of my neck. As a small child I was called a gipsy ( my hair was very dark) and at the glittering 80´s a weirdo...All the other kids had H-U-G-E permed hair and mine was with centre- parting and a bun with a hairnet that I had made.
I cut my hair into a pixie after my sister died in a car accident to express my grief and have been growing ever since. But I´m not a patient one and loved black hair (I have admired the First Nations strong black hair all my life) so I coloured mine. It wasn´t bad. But it wasn´t good either. The re- growth had to be done so often. But then LHC started kicking in and I decieded to just let my own colour grow back. :dizzy: OhMiLordie! That was just toooo much... So I made some highlights in brown. Nice. Then I started to wonder why my hair is so much lighter than it used to be. Grays. I have a serious amount of grays in my regrowth. I still let it grow some. Then I had an idea to highlight some coloured hair to even out the colour difference. That burned my hair completely and 2 mo. ago I cut over 1,5 inches off. All together I´ve been trimming my layers and damaged hair about 10 inches in maby 1,5- 2 years. Now I see I need to get some patience! My first goal is BS lenght which is around 25 inches and final goal is WL in 28 inches.
I love to dance Argentinan Tango, Salsa, Flamenco, all the Latin American dances. And I love yoga and meditation.
Oil painting is a profound love-affair too.
In life I´d love to find peace and happiness from within.
I believe I´m on my way.
Rhiannon May 3rd, 2004, 02:45 AM Hi I am Rhiannon :waving: ,
I have been a lover of long hair since childhood. I still have many dolls left over from childhood that survived my early experiments  .
After I graduated from highschool I immediately went to cosmetology school. I worked in the beauty industry for 17 years as a stylist working behind a chair, a cosmetology instructor and also an in-house technician to a beauty supply outlet. After a car accident in 1996 the physical demands of the beauty industry became to much and it was time to re-think my career goals. I am currently attending college :graduate: .
After being out of the industry for awhile it was time to do something I had never been able to accomplish before and that was let my own hair grow. I had spent years caring for other peoples hair now it was time to care for my own.
I quickly realized for all my knowledge about hair I really knew very little  about the long term care and maintenance of growing long hair plus I needed the support of others who had been through the growing out process. Most of a cosmetologists career is geared towards cuts, perms and colors all things that are not in the best interest of long hair. Thats when I found LHC.
Since coming here I consider myself a student of the many people who have taught me so much about how to care for my hair as I am growing it out. There is so much that you don't learn in school and only the wise ones :bowtome: who have actually had the patience and been through the process of growing hair to extreme length can teach you. It's very humbling. My hair is currently 19" and hasn't been this healthy or shiny since childhood before I knew what a perm was.
I have four young adults ages 23-17, I am an amatuer harpist, rottie mom, lover of animals, all things nature & yoga. I don't have much time for hobbies anymore but my current passion is making beaded necklaces. Oh yes I forgot to mention collector of hair products & toys .
Honey Mane May 3rd, 2004, 01:54 PM My name is Honey Mane and I love long hair. My hair is currently knee length. I am 33 years old, just moved back to my home state of Iowa. I was raised a country girl, moved to Denver, Detroit, Chicago, then Racine, WI to return back to the country. I belong here.
I've been married for 7 years to a wonderful  Minnesota city boy who is gradually adapting to the country life. He is my favorite. I knew he was the one for me the moment I first laid eyes on him. My head went, "That's him!" and it was love at first site for both of us. We've been happy together ever since.
We have 1 Lab/Sheperd mix named Kady and two cats named Hobie and Zorro. We are surrounded by so much wildlife down in our valley; deer, 'coons, 'possums, foxes, coyotes, owls, turkeys, hawks and a few other creatures whose sounds we have yet to identify. There is a family of foxes that have five babies that live in the creek behind our garage. Their mother has a broken leg so we call her Tripod because she limps around here on 3 legs. But that doesn't stop her from catching moles and young rabbits - we see her on the hunt in the early mornings.
I have a 15-year-old step son who lives in Massachusetts with his mother. He is big into shocking people with his looks and the things he says. It's always an adventure when he comes to visit because we never know how he's going to behave. He was a sweet little boy, and I'm sure that he will grow to be a nice young man someday. My grandma says there's nothing worse than a 15-year-old boy.
I've been wondering about having a child of my own one of these days. I had always sworn that I'd never have kids, but I guess as I get older I'm changing my mind a little bit. I caught myself thinking about baby names the other night while washing dishes.
I like to go mushroom hunting, fishing, hiking through the timber, driving through the country, cross stitching, reading, painting, gardening, canning, eating good icecream, going to Irishfest in Milwaukee and sipping a pint or two every now and then. Hubby and I just made our first attempt at home brewing Mead and it was a success. We want to explore brewing our own beer and wine.
I sell stuff on eBay under gifts-n-desires and I'm getting ready to start a new job at one of those do-it-yourself stores in Des Moines. I like to do-it-MYself and I love to shop there so I figured I might as well work there.
I've been growing my hair for 7 years from shoulder length. I've been visiting the various hair boards for 5 years. I was a lurker for a long time but realized that the boards are so much more enjoyable when I participate. Everything I learned about caring for long hair I learned on the internet.
Then End.
NordicChick May 3rd, 2004, 04:36 PM My name is NordicChick because I live in Minnesota and am part Norwegian (as well as many other things).
I love long hair too (obviously).
The first long hair that I remember being in awe of was Cher when she had the TV show with Sonny....that Hair! That Voice! Those costumes! WOW!
I even had a Cher doll that had a pony tail that came out of the top of her head that you could make longer, then push a button and the hair would go back into her head...Wonder where that ever went to...
I have had every length of hair. THe shortest it ever was was my Sophmore year in College...short pixie cut, but then I was mistaken for a man one time (from behind) and I thought it was time to grow it out. The longest it has ever been it right now...39 inches. Trying hard to decide what my final goal is and why.
I have 3 kids. 11, 8 and 6. Keep me busy!!!
Hobbies: baking (sell bread at a tiny famer's market during the summer), camping, hiking and TaeKwonDo (currently an advanced blue belt)
I work part time outside the home (work FULL time inside the home LOL) as a physical therapist.
DH: Loves my long hair. Met him when he tore his rotator cuff playing volleyball......Heeheehee caught him when he was down!
Oh yeh, most of youknow this, but for the few that don't....I am 6'1" tall......so the bummer of that is that classic length on me isn't until 48" and with the way gravity is working on my butt.....it may be even longer than that in the next couple years! LOL!
Best wishes to all!!!
sneakybea May 5th, 2004, 05:08 PM Hi there! My name is Kim, and I have been around the LHC for awhile, but I tend to hide in the background a bit. I grew up in California, and lived there until was 28, when I was accepted into grad school at the University of Minnesota. I completed my masters, and now I am working on my PhD in History specializing in Ancient Greece and Rome. I want to become a professor, and when I complete my degree, I'd love to teach somewhere on the West Coast. Don't get me wrong, I like Minneapolis, but I'd love to be closer to my family.
I have had long hair all of my adult life, and though the style has changed (kind of layered in the eighties, bangs and one length in the nineties, then growing out my bangs), I have never experimented with coloring or perming my hair. My hair grows very slowly, and was stuck at bs length for the longest time. Now it is at my waist, or even a little bit longer. I'm not sure how long I want it to grow.
My favorite thing about caring for my long hair is playing around with different styles. I get a lot of compliments when I wear an usual twist or braid.
My hobbies include belly dancing, beadwork, writing fiction and poetry (ok, that's really more of an obsession), reading, and now knitting!
Nice to meet everyone!
Kim B.
Jae6 May 5th, 2004, 09:07 PM Hello all, I'm "Jae6", formerly "JayJae" (which I still use on nc.com), formerly something else when I first found you people on...um...okay I don't remember the website anymore, but you know where I'm going w/ this.
I first started posting because I finally found some people who were just as hair-crazed as me, though not truly seemingly crazy, and I wanted to say 'hi'. Then I really didn't post because I felt so ignorant and felt like I had nothing to offer. Nowadays I don't post because I'm lucky if I have enough time to peruse one of these boards (I'm taking a vacation from my "real" life, so that's why I've popped in here).
Fun facts, in no particular order:
-I'm a serial chopper--grow and chop, grow and chop...I hope to break that cycle until I can afford to have shorter hair.
-I'm only growing my hair long for 3 reasons: 1) I'm too poor to maintain shorter hair because my hair grows too fast, 2) I'm too lazy to take care of shorter hair (though now that I know how to deal w/ my waves, that's changed), and 3) I just want to see what it's like to have one-length waistlength hair (had layered waistlength hair in high school, but promptly chopped it as revenge against my ex-bf).
-My grow-out project originally started in 2000, the moment I got a pixie and realized my hair grows way too fast, but my starting measurement dates to summer 2002, when I even'd up an uncalled for Rachel-cut.
-My current goal, hairwise, is to have healthy hair more than length.
All in all, I just want y'all to know I'm safe people, even though I'm not one to post lots...though once I get my hair to where I want it, that'll surely change I'm sure.
foxie May 6th, 2004, 01:37 PM :waving: from Foxie
I've had long hair (minus a few mishaps, grrrrr) since I was little, and have been working really hard to get it back into shape after too much perming & styling misguidance. There's just something about having long hair that makes me feel beautiful & feminine--not to mention it's a way for me to hang on to the grace I felt I lost after giving up ballet (injuries).
Formerly, I thought that just "young" women could pull off beautiful lengthy tresses, but after spending time on this board, I'm seeing that this is not true and what a happy thing that is!!
Let's see, what else?
I got my undergraduate degree in Economics and Russian & Eastern European studies from the University of Oklahoma, where I met my fabulous (and formerly long haired) husband. He's the one that brought me to Austin with his job as a computer programmer after our graduations (his in May, mine in December) & wedding in January. Currently, he has an application in at the London School of Economics & I'm in the running for a Fulbright grant to study banking in Moscow for a year.
I've already learned the joys of CO washing & jojoba oil :inlove:, and am sorely tempted by some of the hair toy links. One of these days I will indulge in some beautiful hair sticks, since they're much harder to find since going out of fashion for the general public.
Very happy to be here, and looking forward to learning more from everyone!
Sarah May 6th, 2004, 10:59 PM I'm Sarah, a 21 year old college student, nearing the end of my junior year. I'm majoring in graphic design, and minoring in new media and possibly art. I haven't decided yet whether I want to take on a few extra classes next year.
I'm originally from Kansas, and going to school in Iowa. Some of my interests are Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, reading, music, Counting Crows, drawing, the Sims, and the internet (where I spend too much time ).
I found the old longhairlovers site in 2000 when I was looking for styles for prom, and started posting on the boards in early 2001. When all the big changes were happening over there, I was a little lost, and wondered where everyone had gone, till I found LHC a couple months later. I've been here ever since, though I haven't been as regular a member as I used to be for the past year or so.
I've had medium long to long hair most of my life, though I've had it shoulder length a few times, and I think the longest I ever had it before finding any hair sites was about waist length, back when I was around 11. I started growing out from shoulder length 5 years ago, and last November I reached my final goal of classic length. I cut four inches then, but I'm almost back to where I was. I don't really have a particular goal right now, I'm just trying to improve the condition of my hair, and grow out the older, damaged ends.
sacred_poetry August 7th, 2004, 12:34 AM Hello, everyone. Semi-delurked a few days ago by starting my journal, but thought I'd do it properly here...
So, what about me? 22, living in Sweden. Quite 'nordic' hair, blonde, fine and thin. At the moment it's at 20.5, midway between shoulder and brastrap, growing it out from shoulder.
Had long hair as a child, but cut it short about the age of 15. After a number of shorter haircuts I started growing it back out, until the spring, when I decided to cut it shoulder lenght again so I could grow it back a bit more healthy. It's grown two inches since then, I think I cut it May, which is a more rapid growth than I'm used to.
Starting a month back I use henna, which so far workes great.
Still a noob dealing with hair, so I have no recommendations or routines to share with you.. Just finding those things out myself.
I've found loads of good advice and how-to's that I'm eager to try out. Unlike some I've read, i would not cut my hair if it wasn't for this community. I do know what you mean though. Although I would love having long hair again, I would probably cut it short out of convenience (and regret it, over and over again), had I not known how sad it would make the SO. He's my inspiration and my cheerleading squad, stroking my hair, telling me when it's at it's best and how great it will look when it's long. And since I know that it will, that's just the push I need to keep it. Don't get me wrong though, when I'm really down about the texture and thichness (thinness) of my hair, thinking it's not possible to get to waist with hair such as mine and that you must be a Ciii to even consider looking good in long hair, there has been a well of inspiration out there, of which a few people deserve an extra thanks for giving me hope with thair beautiful manes, like Heidi, Fia, Cowgal and Madeleine. :flower: There are others, but these are the ones that have been the most significant to me.
There, I will call this my official introduction, and be done with it. Happy to be here.
MaryR2 August 7th, 2004, 06:15 AM Great idea. Hi I'm Mary (could ya guess that? lol) I'm 47...soon to be 48 UGH!. Divorced and living in eastern PA. I have 3 grown ankle biters and 7 grand ankle biters (the newest is all of 2 1/2 weeks old). I work as an office manager for a small company after way to many years of working for the mega corporate world. Less money and less stress and happiness was more important then the crap of mega corporate world.
I found this place by accident. Searching for some pet info and stumbled in here. Found it to be a very informative place and lots of nice people who just chat back and forth without the ugliness of so many chat forums.
I am a voracious reader and I have very eclectic tastes in everything from books to music to movies. Everything from Brigadoon to Jason vs. Freddie, Johnny Cash to Ozzy Osborne, Stephen King to Robert Browning LOL I also love to cook, garden and travel. I've only been to England so far and learned a whole new appreciation for the term "old" and "antique".
My hair is in the growing out again stage. It is about BSL but still growing. Had it in a layered style so waiting for it all to catch up to each other then I will trim it even and let her go. The longest it has ever been in my life is hip length. I have learned a lot from just reading through this board. Some really fascinating things to try and help my hair after years of blow drying, curling irons (incredibly straight hair that won't hold a curl for more then 10 minutes) and hair coloring. So thank you all for posting your knowledge and tips and suggestions for me to read through (although reading everything posted here could become a full time job LOL).
akwill823 August 7th, 2004, 11:27 AM I'm Amy, a 24 yr. old SAHW living in Maryland but am originally from Georgia. I joined LHC last year and believe I posted an intro then but I mainly lurked afterwards.
Anyway, a couple of weeks ago I decided to get serious once again with the growing out of my hair and returned here. My hair is 18" long (longest layer) and it's probably the longest I've had my hair since I was in the 3rd grade -- it was classic length on me then. Sadly my mother decided to give me a chop and I stayed 'short' from then on.
I believe my hair is 1bFii though here lately I've been noticing a lot more curly/coarse hairs throughout so I'll re-evaluate my hair once all my layers are grown out.
Um, let's see...
I'm an avid reader and have been called a bookworm pretty much my whole life. I especially love mystery and ghost stories but lately I've been on what's called a 'woman's fiction' kick.
I'm also a lover of music, especially Celtic themed music. Matter of fact, I'm a lover of most Celtic themed anything.
I could go on and on ....
I'm just glad I've found such a great forum to be apart of!
Shady August 7th, 2004, 01:09 PM I just did this about a week ago, but you do have a point about having them all in one thread!
I'd prefer to just go by Shady for now, as I've had a problem recently with someone looking me up on the Internet. I have no idea why.
I'm 31 and married to the most wonderful man I've ever met, to whom I will refer here as Dan. I have no job outside the home, so nothing to talk about there. I was diagnosed last August with lupus, so if I ever stop posting for a while, I'm probably having a flare. No worries.
Dan and I met online several years ago, and in the spring of 1998 I drove from one end of the country to the other to be with him. We were married in May of 2000, and I've never regretted a thing. He has three kids from his previous marriage, and I've been lucky in that they've all accepted me and love me as much as I love them.
So...personality. I'm sarcastic, but somewhat shy, so in real life only my family and a few very close friends are witness to my rapier wit. *cough* I'm more a listener than a talker, which is probably why my words spill out onto the screen so easily--they have nowhere else to go! I love to read, and am writing a novel myself, which I hope to have finished by Christmas at the latest...if I didn't just jinx myself by saying that.
When the writing doesn't go well I can usually be found prowling the Net for information, tutorials or trivia. I love to learn, but I have too many interests to really pick one thing and stay with it. Some of them include ghosts, a variety of arts and crafts, mythology, music, movies, history, Harry Potter (oh hush), and of course, hair.
Speaking of that, my hair is currently at 21" and very, very dark. I am in rehab from a shameful perm and color addiction, and now I'm focused on growing healthy, beautiful, NATURAL hair, which is almost completely straight and nearly black, but has distinct red tones as well.
(coming back after a moment away) Good heavens, I've babbled.
Shutting up now....
nicolezoie August 7th, 2004, 01:42 PM Hi, I'm Nicole, and I just turned 28. I live in San Diego County near the beach, am a bicycling enthusiast, and I ride a minimum of 120 miles a week. I'm known for alot of things but what I am most proud of are being a photographer, a very proud Auntie, and am dearly loved by my boyfriend of 16 months.
I've been lurking at LHC for about 2 1/2 years, and more or less active in the last year or so since TLHS started getting less and less activity.
I work for an online computer parts distributor doing order processing/verifications and occasionally customer service, and am highly regarded for my detail orientation and meticulous nature. I've been working at the same place in several different positions for almost 3 years.
I have had long hair most of my life. It has been long for so long that I honestly can't remember what having hair shorter than my waist is like anymore (it's been at least waist length since I was 17).
I love watching anything court-related and forensic science related on television, and am absolutely thrilled at the NY CSI show that will be starting in the fall. I love how clever these people have to be to A) SOLVE these crimes and B) try to commit the 'Perfect crime.' With all the modern sciences in play, it's getting easier and harder respectively all the time.
It was my mother's dying *demand* that I finish college, which I plan on doing as soon as I can focus my energy on one thing. See I'm quite good at many things, but the downfall of that is I can hardly focus on any one of those things for long enough to really make a difference in my life. Whatever I decide, though, it will probably be scientific and analytically related.
Chameleon August 7th, 2004, 05:40 PM I'm embarrassed that I didn't notice this thread until today. I found the lhc while I was doing a search on hair sticks.
I've had hair at least shoulder length for most of my life. It's usually bra strap length. I've had it tailbone length when I was in elementary school and nearly waist length in college and when my son was born. Currently my hair is between brastrap and waist length.
I have a 15 year old son, a lovable dog and a husband of 16 years. We met at college. I have a ba in geography and I used to be a gis programmer. I'm a lot happier since deciding to be a full time mom. Actually I had gotten just a little bored so I picked up 3 hours a day serving lunches at the high school (not the one that my son attends). 3 hours a day is perfect and I get all the holidays and summers off.
I like to knit, tat, bake cakes and cookies and make candy. I knit norwegian sweaters. I also knitted socks and mittens. I love working with chocolate and collect cook books. My favorite reading is scifi and fantasy. My parents and sisters thought that I was weird but than again they have no imagination.
I like Cathe and the early Firms for weights and aerobics. Actually I prefer weights, I have to force myself to do aerobics.
Everyone here is so supportive.
Angelicblaze August 8th, 2004, 03:20 AM .......................
flaming bunny August 8th, 2004, 05:46 AM hey there :waving: im Flaming Bunny. im a 19yo design student from england. i looooooooove my long hair (it has become an obsession), reading, arts/craft, music, photography, animals, velvet clothing 8) and generally im a strange individual who sees nothing wrong in filling awkward silences with strange noises such as "neep"
i am currently enjoying life with my boyf of almost 5years so things are pretty much peachy!
my hair is the longest its ever been. my last haircut was when i was 14 and was to my shoulders....after that i forgot about my hair and didnt cut it (maybe a few trims but its like i suffered a bang to the head...i cannot for the life of me remember!) and then suddenly my hair was waist length. i maintained this with trims but then i found lovely hair sites which helped me to reform my bad habits and now my hair loves me! :flower: so thankyou for everyone here :flowers:
i think thats about it........
sunseta August 8th, 2004, 07:44 PM My name's Amanda. [Sunseta on here]. I joined back in June I believe. I found this board by googling for long hair. I live in Greenville, SC and work at a POS support desk. I'm almost 35 and am going back to school in a couple of weeks for Cisco certification. I already have my 2-year degree in computer/network admin but have not worked as one. Right now I know more about IBM than I ever learned about desktop support. Anyway, I love to research anything and usually get obsessed with whatever I am researching at the moment. That's how I have ended up here for so long. My hair was long until I was about 4 years old and has been short ever since. I had perms when I was a kid but not too many as an adult. I have colored my hair for about 20 years though. Since coming to this site I have decided to not color again although I may use henna at some point in the future. I did use the hennalucient one time recently but it seemed to make my hair shed a whole lot more until just recently. Besides hair, I love reading, baking, making jam, all animals, and my kids. We currently have 4 frogs, 2 crayfish, several different fish, 2 finches, a dog and 2 cats. We are getting a 155 gallon acquarium on Friday. I really enjoy this site. I have learned so much and I don't have to show how obsessed I am with my hair to other people since I can get it all out here. :cloud9:
seabear August 9th, 2004, 04:09 AM Whew, I finally finished reading this thread! It's great to meet y'all! :waving:
I'm seabear; 46 years old, growing my hair out long for the first time in 25+ years. My hair is wavy-to-curly, and I'm having the darndest time getting used to caring for it long! No wonder I gave up so many other times! But I'm committed to it now, and my hair is the longest it has been since I was a teen. I hope to grow at least to waist length - a long way off, I'll admit, but I'll get there! I'm beginning to show a tiny bit of gray, but I don't mind it and have no plans to color my hair.
I've been married for 26 years to my darling and dashing HusbandMan; he is the light of my life. We have two kids, DD 24 and DS 22, both fledged from the nest; DD was married last year, so we now have a DSIL, too, and love him like one of our own. We share our dream house in the country with a spoiled Welsh Corgi. I work as an admin assistant, to save for retirement and fund my quilting hobby! I also love to read (historical fiction is my favorite genre, but I read anything and everything), hike, and travel. The last few years we have travelled to several National Parks and will continue the tradition by visiting Yellowstone and Grand Teton this fall. Love the National Parks! I also love antiques - I don't really collect anything special, but purchase what I love. I find it comforting and peaceful to be surrounded by and use lovely old things with mysterious histories.
My favorite foods are strawberries (bonus points if they are covered in dark chocolate!), just about any kind of pie, tortilla chips and salsa, good Carolina pork bbq, and, of course, cheese. (actually, I love to eat, period!) My guilty pleasure is trashy reality-tv: Survivor and Monster House are favorites.
Personality-wise, I am quiet but friendly, and perhaps a bit eccentric. I am content, and find that at 40-something, I am pretty comfortable in my own skin.
So that's me, in a nutshell, I really enjoy LHC and all the friendly folks here. :inlove:
Sierra August 9th, 2004, 07:00 AM You'll see me as Sierra. Never mind real names; I've been known to answer to Sierra in person. :silly: If I had my druthers, I'd be signing my checks Sierra.
I was born a copper curlyhead. Well, actually, I was born bald. But the first time my baby hair surfaced, it was copper and curly.
My hair was routinely cut for only three years of my life, years 4 through 7. Then I had the typical 90s chin-length flip-under with bangs. This was probably a source of inordinate stress on my parents, because I lived in abject terror of the salon.
Sometime before my 7th birthday, my mother and I began growing our hair out together.
My routine varied little until I turned 17. Shampoo, condition, air dry. Styles included a half-up and a ponytail.
At 17 I learned the art of hair frying from a bob-wearing cousin. She instructed me in the rites of gel, spray, and blowdrying. I kept this up for less than a year. A half hour daily was much longer than I liked to spend on my hair.
The damage from this prompted me to search the web for long hair care. I visited several websites, but LHC seemed most inviting. I lurked for about two months before registering in April.
My hair as of right now is still lingering above waist-length. I've made peace with my waves by adopting the CO wash. And so far, that's about all that I do. Low-maintenance is my motto.
I am 18 and in the process of moving to Pennsylvania. :inlove:
Misti August 9th, 2004, 08:14 AM Hey all! I discovered this board a little over a week ago, but I seem to spending an awful lot of time here already...oh dear.
Anywa, my name is Misti and I live near Detroit, where I settled about 14 years ago fater living the lift of a gypsy for most of my childhood and young adulthood.
I have three sons and two stepsons. TJ(age 24) and Corey(age 22) live in Sweden. Michael(age 24) and Joel(age 19) live in Australia. And Jack, age 15 months and three days, lives with me. He has strict orders; he can do anything he wants, but he has to live at home with Mamma until he's 40! (Just kidding.)
I have had long hair most of my adult life. My Mom and I had an ongoing battle about my hair from the time I can remember -- she wanted it a, Audrey Hepburn pixie and I wanted it long and flowing. When I was 11, I wasn't allowed to grow it long, but I was allowed not to wear it in a pixie anymore. I have only intentionally cut it once since I left home! (I did fall foul of a "friend" offering to trim my butt-length hair and cutting it above my ears when I was younger and silly.)
A few years ago, at the end od a bad marriage, I chopped it all off -- fully intending to grow it back. Well, it'sback, but I had let it go pretty badly and it was looking none-too-happy. So I went looking for inspiration and found Gollan's site, which brought me here.
In the week or so I've been reding this site, not only have I started taking care of my hair again (and it looks so much happier already -- turns out it wasn't broken, just dry.) but my husband has started to treat his hair better. I told him about the CO wash and he's been doing that for a week -- and his 24 inch hair already seems far less greasy and twice as thick!
So... I'm grateful, and very inspired by all the gorgeous locks I see here!
Quirky August 9th, 2004, 08:15 AM I am TStephens130 and I've been a member for a little over one year. I had a pixie and now my hair is past my shoulders. I had classic length hair until eighth grade, at which point I nagged my mother into submission and she cut it. You should see the before photo. I had these great blonde streaks (natural) on each side of my head. It was beautiful but I wanted to be like everyone else with the permed and curling-ironed feathered back hair.
I did have great hair in the 80's though. It was BIG and I spent hours on it every morning. I had posted a picture from back then a while ago but that was just the "wash and wear" perm. Years after that I'd spend every morning rolling it with hot rollers and destroying the ozone layer with Aquanet Ultra Hold Hairspray.
Right before I graduated high school I got a pixie cut. I've worn it that length for eighteen years now; only letting it grow to my shoulders and then cutting it all off.
My husband is thrilled that I'm letting my hair grow. He has never seen it as long as it is now. Ever since cutting my hair I've had a nearly obsessive love of long hair. My favorite movies featured long-haired characters and I would watch them but never think that I could ever let mine grow again. I'm so thankful for finding this site and all of you great people because without you, I'd still probably have a pixie!
Love,
TStephens130

bflokitten August 9th, 2004, 08:56 AM Hiya! :writer: My name is Bflokitten and I'm an LHC addict. The Bflo in my name is short for 'Buffalo' which is the area I live in Western New York in the US. The kitten part of my name is just because I absolutely adore kittens.(I actually love all animals their just my favorite) I'm 27 and live with my wonderful b/f, longhaired kitty 'shania', short haired bunny named 'bunny' and my new baby birdie 'eugene'.
If you've seen the movie 'Office Space' then you have an idea of my work environment.
Last time I had my b/f measure my hair was the middle of July and it was 30" long. My pony tail measures to be 5" thick.(ooh I'm due to re-measure soon :silly: ) My goal length was to my waist when I first joined here a couple months ago. Now I'm getting closer and closer to waist and can't help thinking how great classic length would be! I have picked up on a lot of great tips here that have definitely helped to improve my hairs healthiness. I'm still working on learning new things and getting it even more healthy and longer than ever. Everyone I've spoken with here has been very nice and extremely helpful. :bowtome: Also, lots and lots of gorgeous hair here! Hmm...I think that's it. WELCOME ALL!! :flower:
astrobabe August 9th, 2004, 09:01 AM *waves*
Hi y'all.
As you can see my name is astrobabe. My real name is Erin but as I'm a working astronomer, astrobabe just seems to fit. I'm 23, been out of college a couple years and am working in Los Angeles for Caltech/JPL so I can get away with being very informal with my clothes and hair, so I often look like a hippy child (Hey I grew up around Boulder, CO and some of it rubbed off on me)
I'm still trying to get over the many years of torture called short hair cuts from when I was younger. My mother was always too cheap to buy conditioner for my hair and never wanted to deal with the tangles so chop chop went the hair *sniffs* I still remember being unhappy through all 11 years of ballet where I was the only one with short hair.
At the moment my hair is down to bra strap level, the hope is to get it down to tush level. We'll see if that happens. I'm a swimmer so chlorine does some nasty things to hair.
Also I'm hair do challenged. While I have long hair, I don't have a lot of it when you compare me to other folks. In both sides of my family the women are cursed with very sparse heads of baby fine hair. My great grandma always used to envy my hair because I have so much of it. Unfortunately a lot of baby fine hair doesn't equal much in the way of bulk so finding things to do with my hair that don't look silly is a bit difficult. I am pretty much the master of the bun
Oh and I dread going home at Christmas because it'll be the first time I've seen my folks in 2.5 years. I can only imagine the fight about my hair that will be going on.
Alun August 9th, 2004, 07:40 PM Alun is my real name, although I post in a lot of other places as Elektros. I'm 46 and live in Maryland with my wife, two children and lots of cats. My wife and I are originally from England.
I am a patent agent, used to be an engineer and would like to be an attorney, but law school costs waaay too much to be feasible.
I'm a radio ham, which is probably my number one hobby. I like motorcycles, although it's a while since I had one. I also enjoy riding bicycles. Not as fast with no engine, but better for my health. I have a beautiful racing bike that someone threw away at the county dump, as well as a rusty touring bike that I got for five dollars in a church sale! I also like to ice skate, and I am waiting with baited breath for the new ice rink to open here. I like playing pool/billiards/snooker type games as well. I read a lot and listen to rock music.
My hair is thin, fine and wavy. I haven't had a haircut in three years, so it's rather wispy, and I have some split ends. It reaches my waist, but only when I straighten it out. I would like to grow it to my tailbone.
My hair mostly stays down, but I do put it in a ponytail or a plait too.
I first grew my hair when I was fifteen, but I had it shoulder length with a fringe and layers for a long time, then grew all that out and grew it longer when I was in my 20s. I never had short hair as an adult.
My natural hair colour is very dark brown, sometimes mistaken for black, but I am going gray, especially at the front, and have attempted to colour it with a brown henna mixture, which doesn't cover all the gray, but reduces it quite a bit.
My wife has reddish blonde or blondish red hair down to her waist, but cut short on top, and she usually braids it. Our son used to have longish hair, but decided he wanted it cut short, and his sister has fairly long blonde hair with a fringe.
Mare of Earth August 10th, 2004, 05:16 AM Hello there!
I am Mare of Earth (EternalBastet on the old boards) and first found LHC a little over 2 years ago, when I decided that I hated the shorter hair I had had for nearly a year, and decided to grow it back out to where it belonged!
My real name is Marsha (no Brady Bunch jokes - different spelling!!) and I am a 26 year-old Executive Assistant. I live in Northern Virginia (welcome to Hell) and live with my cat and my new betta.
Hobbies I have:
crochet
silversmithing
reading
hair care :inlove:
cooking/baking
sewing
occasionally LARPing
music (listening, not playing.)
Anything and everything Harry Potter (addictive characters!)
Anime
various craft projects (as the mood takes me)
bargain-hunting, garage-sale-ing, estate-sale-ing, thrift shopping, etc..etc...
Maggie August 14th, 2004, 03:13 PM Hi, I finally finished reading through all the posts and realized I hadn't introduced myself. I thought I had, but then remembered I had posted on the thread called 'Life Stories".
I'm 47, married to a minister, and the mother of 4 kids (three boys...21,18,16 and a girl...13) I love them all so much.
The shortest my hair has ever been was when I had a pixie in first grade. I let it grow out after that and my hair has always been waist length or longer. In the mid to late '90's, after two surgeries, losing a lot of blood, and having quite a bit of stress (hubby had a pituitary tumor), my hair was getting very thin and shorter. I was blow drying and using electric rollers on it to try to give it more volume, which was only making matters worse. I was desperate, started 'googling', and found the original LHL. I was very shy and lurked for almost a year.
I feel a bit guilty for not participating more, because I've received so much more help than I've given.
My homeschooling days are almost over. I expect to have more time to do some things that I haven't been able to do in a long time: sew, refinish furniture, garden, read, knit....and.. uumm... declutter my house!
Maggie
harpy August 15th, 2004, 10:24 PM My original introduction post is here (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=12801).
I would also add, since others have jogged my memory, that I am an obsessive baker. I am known for my enormous collection of cookbooks and my desire to trade great recipes (how about it, ladies and gentlemen!?!). My mother has about given up making any holiday goodies in our family! Can't get near the oven! :cookie: :cookie: :cookie:
Those arts and crafts I mentioned doing in my initial intro include: knitting, many kinds of embroidery and especially needlepoint, quilting, sewing, weaving, beadwork, photography, a little drawing... There's lots more I'd love to try still. I'm fascinated by the wide cross-section of interests here.
I have not been a member long at this date, about three weeks, (maybe two or four?) but I was a lurker for a while previously. I love it here... When I finally straighten things out in my head, I will embark on my Great Adventure in Natural Hair Care...
Now, I really need to get those initial hair pics taken don't I!
Isare August 22nd, 2004, 01:22 PM Hi! I'm Isare, from the Netherlands. I'm sixteen years old, so one of the youngest here  . I still live at home and school is starting in a couple of days, so that will keep me busy, along with my other hobbies which include drawing, making music, sport and play games and surfing on my computer.
My hair is a bit past BSL now, rather thick and brown with highlights from a very sunny vacation 8) . The type is 2aCiii, or 1cCiii, rather hard to determine because I have some curles in my under layer and rather straight hair in my upper layer. It keeps getting tangled up all the time being so thick (I have actually met people with hair on shoulderlength who say they only brush/comb their hair about once a month, and have no problems with tangles! Unimaginable...).
The past four years I've had it about shoulder length (before mid-back), but the seeing of beautiful women with long hair (Lord of the Rings, musical Elisabeth) opened my eyes, so I've been growing my hair for about a year now. But I started really caring for it only a couple of weeks ago  .
Hairstorm August 22nd, 2004, 03:13 PM Well, better late than never...
I'm J12. I have 1c/c/iii black hair, 44.5 inches at this writing. I am trying to discover how long my hair can get because I am curious.
I lurked here and on the LHL boards for a long time before joining, and have learned so much here (thank you!!!) :flowers:
I use henna (Indian brands) every so often (2-3 months), and after a recent failed no-'cone experiment, I decided my hair needs 'cones. I'm currently using Neutrogena Triple Moisture, which Paula Begoun (the "Cosmetics Cop") liked. I also use Mega Moisture.
I clarify with Neutrogena and ACV or sometimes baking soda.
I like to use the dunk method for aiding with clarifying and conditioning.
I do a full wash on Saturday, and scalp washes Tuesday and Thursday. Sometimes I CO wash with WREB.
I love to play with hair, especially someone else's, but I have no daughters or friends with long hair, so I don't get to very often.
I have a DH and 2 DSes, 10 and 7 years old and I'm mostly a SAHM. I enjoy crafts, sewing, quilting, baking, reading, singing, daydreaming, etc. And participating here!
scarlett August 23rd, 2004, 03:10 PM Hello, I'm Scarlett. Not my real name, btw. My hair is 1bFii and at BS length. I've been a member here for over a year now and love many of the new friends I've made here. And LHC has completely changed how I treat my hair. It is a treasue trove of healthy hair secrets. This is the only internet community I am part of, my sister Ladybug introduced me to it. I've alway loved long hair, but never had the courage to grow it out until now.
I'm 32, married and the mother of two sons, aged 18 months and 4 years old. We have a black lab/golden retriever mix named Zorro. I love to read and sew and fitness walk. We camp whenever we can get away. I'm a lifelong vegetarian and started cooking vegan about 15 years ago. I used to teach Biology at a community college and spent some time in graduate school. I'm currently home with the boys and preparing to homeschool my older son next fall. We live in the south, close to the mountains and not far from the ocean.
About 6 months ago my hair started falling out. I'm still searching for a diagnosis and treatment. Since I'm still in the process of dealing with it, my visits here are sporadic. Some days I just can't think about hair! I was feeling sorry for myself until I recently ran into some folks with *real* problems. A little baldness never hurt anyone.
IRL I am friendly but reserved. I have a few very close friends. I tend to like to do things alone--shopping, exercising etc. That's about it. Nice to meet everyone again.
SeaPhoenix August 24th, 2004, 03:46 AM Hey - I'm new to the boards - I can't even remember how I came across them anymore... a google search for some other bit of information, no doubt...
I'm a single woman in the U.S. Air Force and assigned to Japan for the moment. Have done lots of fun time over in the Mid East and am happily on a different duty assignment that doesn't involve going back there in the near future.
Currently I'm extremely active in aikido, jiu-jitsu, and weapons training, and will resume lyrical/jazz/tap dance classes in another couple of weeks. Also was studying Mid East dance off and on for about 2 years before getting moved to Japan (now I can't seem to locate anywhere convenient to continue classes).
I write, love to read, and do some sketching and painting when the mood strikes, and even some sewing - Oh yeah.. and I'm finally tackling college - I think I'm gearing more towards the sociology and psychology areas of study though...
noodlehead August 30th, 2004, 11:30 AM Ah, finally I stumble across this thread! I'll be reading about you guys later on, I'll properly introduce myself first.
My name is Tessel and I'm from the Netherlands, 25 years old and an art history student. Before that I tried art college, but quit because it was too stressful.
I run for my hobby and do the occiasonal sketch, as longf as it is for fun and nothing too 'arty'. In real life I tend to be shy but friendly, people generally don't notice much of me apart from my hair.
Speaking of which!
My hair has been short throughout my childhood. My mum had it cut in an identical do to hers until I realized she just told the hairdresser to 'do hers like my hair' when I was twelve. No way I was going to walk around with a do of someone my mother's age. Besides, it was time to rebel against my mum anyways. So long it went.
And red, pink, purple, white stripes with copper stripes, etc. It reached below bra strap, but it was straw of course. When I was 16 I felt it was time for an unannounced shock cut (apparently, it was time to rebel againt my peers). When I had it done, I realized that it looked ok, but I just hated to have short hair. So long it went again, and it has been sitting on my shoulders for years now, courtesy of my hairdresser and my lack of assertiveness towards her. But no more! My goal is bra strap for now, and we'll see if I want to go further from there. I have a long way to go, since I want to go back to my natural colour as well. So I have only 1 inch of hair on my head that "counts"
I I classified myself as a 2C/3A, but there are more and more 3B locks showing the less I wash. Like I said, my hair is one thing people notice and compliment me on.
Phew, that was almost more like a first journal entry! Anyway, I'm glad to have found this bunch of people that know so much about hair. :flower:
Braid August 30th, 2004, 11:43 AM My name is Laura, I am 17 and my life's drama has been played out in Texas. My hair has been chin and shoulder length for most of my life (in fact my older brother and I cut it to less than 2 inches when I was six, something my mom freaked over ;)). When I was 12, I got my last bad haircut and vowed not to cut my hair until I was 18 - a vow that I have kept -. My hair is now just past my hips and I don't think I will be cutting it this November on my 18th... I keep it my natural color of golden brown, though I sometimes put some washable red streaks in it for fun ;)
I enjoy a variety of things especially military history, forensic science, music (I play piano and sing), reading, writing and pets (which include dogs, cats, fish and a prairie dog :D)
That's all I can think of for the present, except that I really LOVE this smilie, haha
Sally August 30th, 2004, 01:27 PM I've read every post here and really enjoyed it. I joined the board back in the spring and was COMPLETELY addicted. Have just finished weaning while on a three-week holiday out west, and will be trying for a more moderate pace on posting from here on. but wanted to say something here, since I'm not sure I ever properly introduced myself.
Much to my utter surprise, I'll turn 50 in November, 2.5 weeks after my DH (together since '93, married since '97) does. I teach political science nad health studies at a university near Toronto. Got my PhD in 2001. Before grad school, I worked as a rehab counsellor/case manager, and before that as a physiotherapist (that's what we call physical therapists up here in Canada). Got the physio degree in '87. Before that, however, I worked for a number of years as a fine arts journalist, newspaper and radio -- my first degree, back in the '70s, was in English Literature and Fine Arts.
I've lived in downtown Toronto almost all my life, since I was 5. But from 3-5, I lived in Israel, where almost my entire extended family still lives. And I was born in Poland, where I lived til a little before my 3rd birthday. I got my LHC name from a woman who gets to snuggle with Eric Clapton; but my parents got my RL name from the little girl in the grade-one reader in Poland: Alina.
I wasn't allowed to grow my hair long as a child. Naturally, I grew it out as a teenager in the early '70s. I cut it super short when I was 19, grew it again in my mid-20s, cut super short at the end of my 20s, and did hte cycle again in my 30s. I've vowed not to repeat it in my late 40s or ever again.
I really love this cyber community.
I also love to read and to walk, walk, walk; indeed, I often do the two at the same time and have not yet bumped into anything. When not in Toronto, which sprawls like mad and is hard to get out of, I like to go backcountry hiking. My DH and I just returned, a couple of days ago, from holiday on Vancouver Island (where he was born and raised). We went for a magnificent backcountry trek up into the mountains. I've got pictures on a brand new digital camera, and will be posting them soon.
Teazel August 31st, 2004, 09:36 PM Hullo! I stumbled across this place about a week ago while googling for an image of ‘niphredil‘, funnily enough. I was intrigued by the idea of a long hair message board; the Internet truly must have a site for every subject under the sun! After reading a few threads and admiring some photos of amazing hair I suddenly felt ashamed that I’ve let my own hair ‘go to seed’, so to speak. I’d like to try to improve its health.
I’m 39, married with a 14-year-old son, two cats and a dog, and I live in New Zealand. I work part-time in the warmer half of the year, and in winter (right now) I hibernate, taking the chance to indulge in my various interests, which currently mostly involve J.R.R. Tolkien and the band U2.
When I was little my mother let my hair grow down to my waist, and it has stayed there, more or less, ever since. I tend to forget about it until it reaches my tailbone, then I get fed up with it tangling and shorten it up to waist length again. Seventeen months ago I went to a salon and had it layered from my shoulders down, which prevented the tangling but made it very difficult to put up. It hasn’t had scissors near it since. I used to colour it now and then with a wash-out dye because I’ve been going grey since my teens, but at present there’s no dye left in it and I’m getting quite snowy about my temples.
I’d never come across the idea of conditioner-only washing before reading about it here. I’ve tried it out twice in the last week, along with ACV; the first thing I noticed was that my scalp wasn’t dry and flaky immediately after washing, as it usually is. A definite plus! I plan to use a clarifying shampoo tomorrow, with a rich conditioner and honey treatment - it’s kind of exciting! :grnbiggri
By the way, that’s my great-grandmother in my avatar.
Draque966 September 1st, 2004, 01:09 PM Hi there-
they call me Draque. I am 21, live in wisconsin, and am currently a student at UW-madison, majoring in physics. Yeah that is what i am majoring in, but i may eventally go into engineering, or atmospheric sciences. I work for a couple of professors, helping out in labs. it is fun work, i like doing stuff with my hands and designing stuff, but ive also done a bit of programing in perl too, which has been fun also.
So yeah id like to study either stuff with weather eventally or what id LOVE to study would be the sun or "space physics"... the interactions that happen between the sun(solar wind, or just interactions with the atmosphere) or hurricanes... yeah i guess i dont know, but lots of things :)
so yeah i dont have long hair, and dont want long hair, but have had an apperication for long hair for a LONG time... so that is why i am here, and to talk to people. so i cant give hair advice, but i can give compliments.
ok that is me
draque
Wind Dragon September 3rd, 2004, 07:21 AM I guess I really should introduce myself, having jumped in the pool without warning a couple of times already
Some variation of Wind Dragon will do fine as a moniker for now, as that's been my online persona for a long time. I live in the suburbs of Dallas, TX and work in the city proper. Household consists most of the time of me, DH, 7yo DS and two fur-kids. My two teenage DSs currently live w/their dad up the highway a bit, and are here (sometimes w/company) at odd times. Including my own overbalance of the stuff, that's a lot of testosterone (and hands and feet and paws and hair and fur and noise) in a little bitty cluttered house.
In addition to those distractions, I work 35 hours a week and am in classes in the evening. Just happen to have the day off today (and the kids don't) and am so far successfully avoiding both dirty dishes and finishing my biology lab, so here I am :silly: So anyhoo, I don't usually have nearly this much time on my hands in here, most often just lurk 'n learn and leave a quick journal entry so I can keep track of what I've been doing to my hair.
Started growing my hair almost by accident. Was keeping it super-short, liked the wash-n-go thing a lot, then two Christmases ago lost the haircut to a serious budget crunch. When I could fit it back in again I thought "What the heck, I may as well grow it until I can pull it back off my face, at least." Got there and kept waffling about cutting it. About the time I'd mentally reach for the butcher knife, someone I barely knew would compliment the hair, and I'd put it off again. Finally got tired of arguing w/myself about it and committed to growing it until next spring, at which point (theoretically, at least) I'll decide whether or not to keep it. Having made that decision, I figured I should at least give it half a chance and look into taking care of it properly.
There are some limitations to that, though. If having long hair ends up taking up too much of my time/money, I just won't bother - off it goes.
Enter this board and CO washes and french twists (Madeleine, special thanks to you dear lady, and if I someday gather enough courage to henna you can take credit for that, too.) And if you're still with me here folks, I just want to say thank you, thank you, thank you so much to everyone for all the tips and tricks and agonies and successes and everything else you share! I have learned so much already. :inlove:
Although I currently still don't much care for the way my hair looks when loose, I'm now thinking that if I can keep it healthy, I may try to grow it to my butt - just to see if I can, and what it looks like there. Who knows, along the way maybe I'll find the perfect CO routine. Anyone else with fine, unruly, oily, type 1b-cF-Nbarelyii (as near as I can tell) hair is welcome to follow along and ask questions or make suggestions, don't be shy. :face: I really am horribly busy most of the time though, so you can't take it personally if it takes me a while to respond.
I'd also just like to say in advance that if I manage to offend anyone, there's an excellent chance that I not only didn't mean to, but that I'll be astonished to find out I did. Please tell me anyway. I don't usually get very far before committing some sort of social blunder, I'm usually horrified to find that I've hurt someone's feelings, but I won't know if you don't tell me.
Okay then, I've rambled enough. Will throw some pics in my profile eventually (and if anyone cares to go hunting, there's already a kind of interesting one floating around here in a post). Next? :flowers:
zift September 3rd, 2004, 11:06 AM Hello,
I'm Zift. I'm 21 years old , living with my mom and brother in the metropol city of Turkey, Istanbul. Currently I'm a student at the med school, I'm planning to be an orthopedic surgeont or a cardiologist. I've taken classical ballet training for 10 years and after I quit I started modern dance but I quit again after four years. In high school I did athletics and then when I entered university I couldn't stand the stress and quit again.(quitter :silly: )Now I've been exercising on my own. I like weight lifting, running, dancing(ofcourse  ), gymnastics, karate(well I've tried that sport too but after four months I got injured and had to quit  ) , swimming(once I'm into synchronise swimming but didn't like the pool and the clorine made my hair dry so I quit), bicycle riding, beach voleyball, tennis... Yeah, I love sports. And I love music too. My favourite genre is thrash metal but I enjoy different progressive stuff too, and sometimes I listen to classical music and Turkish folk music.I used to play classical piano(actually took lessons for 8 years) but I quit. I've tried to play drums but after some months the studio I was working with closed and I quit(didn't like it too).In the future I'd like to give a try to electro guitar or bass after I finished med school ,at the moment all the studying took most of my time. I like reading books and magazines, I'm interested in sociology and politics. And I like fooling around the internet too, its refreshing  .
I've had long hair all my life but suddenly I stopped cutting my hair and it grew and grew, and is still growing. The first year I didn't cut it was nearly OK, in the second year my mom started to grumble threatening me that she would cut it herself, the third year we started to fight and I and my hair tried a lot to survive from her sneaking into my bedroom with scissors :hatchet: .But this year she gave up(haha victory  ) and got used to my very long hair. I even think that she would be upset if I decided to cut it (wow I'd never do that!) Now we'll see what happens, I'd love to have virgin hair one day but if it keeps growing and grew longer than the floor I'd have to cut it because I like wearing it down(it's attractive don't we all agree  ).
Persephone September 9th, 2004, 06:32 PM I should really reintroduce myself, since I've been gone for a while, and there are so many new faces. (Wow, Steph, this place is popular!)
I'm Persephone, a 22 year old longhair. I'm recently married, a stay at home wife trying to start my own business. (I want to sell herbal potions and chocolate. Nourishment for your body AND soul. ;)) I have many many hobbies and interests. I love books, and I love to cook. I am currently taking bellydancing lessons, which is something I've wanted to do for years and years. I also like hiking and camping and all that outdoor stuff. I am a cat person, and a Leo. I went to school for theatre, and though I've left that field, I still feel like a theatre person. Perhaps it's because my husband still works in theatre as an electrician. I did scenic art.
As for my hair, you can see the length for yourself. I found this place because I wanted to find some simple new hairstyles for my hair. And I found this place, and started taking much better care of my hair. I left a while back, and didn't know if I'd come back, but I did, and I'm happy to be here, and welcome to all the new people! :)
steficurls September 9th, 2004, 08:47 PM My turn!
My name is Stefanie, and I have only been reading this board for about a month now. I have learned so much from you all!
My last major haircut was in August 2002...I let my cosmetology student sister trim it. It went from waist to shoulder length in under 10 minutes. I was pretty upset! Two years later, my hair is back at waist length! WOO HOO! :rockerdud It is a medium chocolate brown color, with s-type waves that are easily coaxed into botticelli-type curls. I wish it were thicker, though.
I work in the TV news business as an Assignment Editor (basically we decide on stories, then arrange interviews, monitor breaking news, etc). Sometimes I hate it, but at least it is always exciting! My DH (Mike, we've been married for 1.5 years/been together since 1998) is a San Francisco Police Officer. Kind of scary sometimes, but my Dad & Grandpa were also police officers so I am used to worrying
No kids yet, unfortunately .... We have one awesome Australian Cattle Dog named "Luke"...he looks like a Dingo and he keeps me busy playing "throw the tennis ball" in the backyard and he does funny things with his paws when he sleeps.
I am on a serious mission to grow my hair to tailbone length! Right now I am just working on my short-term goal to get out of the 30's...in August I was at 28.5 inches [sending 'grow' vibes to my follicles as I type]. But with all of your help, hopefully by this time next year I will look like a beautiful mermaid! :cloud9:
Deb Ann October 1st, 2004, 03:09 PM Hi , I just joined last nite and got my pic reduced today for my avatar. I hope to share some pics of my updoes , when I get a chance. I'm glad to find such a friendly , knowledgable community. My hair seems to be stuck at it's present lenght, about two fingers below my bra strap. I'd love to get it down to my waist , but it just gets very shaggy , scraggly if I don't trim it a little when i get it colored  (I'm hiding some gray)

Eowyn October 2nd, 2004, 07:02 PM I'm Jennifer, and I'm from the central valley in California. I'm thirty-something, single, with no kids. I love San Francisco and Berkley, and the coastline. I moved to Arkansas because my sister lives here and education is CHEAP! I finished my degree in Creative Writing/English, and now I'm about to finish my Master's in Multi-media journalism (which is taking classes in photography, web design, writing, film, etc...) I'm writing my thesis and making a website about how advertisers prey on women's self-esteem, body image, etc... to sell their products.
I love long hair, reading, writing, photography, art, music, traveling (I got to tour castles in Ireland not too long ago and it was very cool!) movies (especially fantasy and science fiction) poetry, British literature, and of course, Tolkien  I LOVE long hair on men (like "the Highlander." Hee!) I also like Harry Potter (don't laugh!) and I'm writing a Harry Potter fan fiction novel on Fanfiction.net
My parents wonder when I'm actually going to do something productive with my life.
I am, unfortunately, very poor, in debt with student loans. But this does not stop me from blowing loads of money on hair stuff. It's an illness.
